  1. I certainly didn't mean to imply that Darlington didn't deserve it. I merely had some concerns that the voters might not see it that way based solely on individual scoring statistics. I'm grateful they rewarded him based on his worth to the 2010 Zips!
  2. Zips a 4.5 point favorite
  3. K.E.N.T. will do ALL they can to try to frustrate Alex by getting extremely physical at times. The strategy will work initially, but eventually Rico will adjust and a big, late Zip surge will seal the victory. I look for a big game from Darryl Roberts. Zips 72 Flushes 64
  4. That blasted Paterno!! The next time I see him, I'm going to spray oil on the grips of his walker!
  5. Menstrual Madness seems to have worked for Eastern Washington!
  6. Awesome! I'm pleasantly surprised. I thought Darlington's "moderate" numbers would work against him in this. His importance to what has likely been the most talented team in NCAA history must have been the greater consideration by the voters. Congrats, Darlington!!
  7. I certainly have no problems with the MAC bowl performance this season. If Toledo doesn't blow a big lead, the combined record would have been 3-1. Perhaps this season was merely an apparition, but it's a welcome change from recent bowl history.
  8. Honest, I had nothing to do with this
  9. I told the folks in Santa Barbara we need to establish a Firestone Cup competition between our schools -- if we win we get a case of Santa Barbara County's finest wine, if they win they get a set of four Bridgestone steel-belted radials. They didn't seem that enthused... Maybe Drew can throw in "A new car"! Gauchos lose key player to Generation Adidas
  10. I say Holmgren will meet with himself, be blown away by what he hears and get a deal done for his new coach. (not my words, a Seattle Seahawk fan just emailed this to me and I thought it was funny) I wonder what "price point" Holmgren will have in mind when he's talking to Holmgren.
  11. That's the BEST recruiting joke in Zipsnation history!! On a serious note, I am encouraged that he's a wrestler (hopefully a good one).
  12. Great to hear! I hope Steve has two fine years for the Vulcans. May he live long and prosper.
  13. According to this mock draft, 7 Akron Zips are to be taken in the first 25 picks. Wow! Caleb Porter has managed to do more than win Akron’s first national (team) championship. He has revived the significance of collegiate soccer as a whole. The pros are watching Akron closely and the National Team will soon follow suit. The center of amateur soccer in America is currently Akron, Ohio. If this draft play out like most think, it's really an amazing stamp on this national championship season. I realize it's apples and oranges, but can you imagine ONE NCAA (American) football or basketball team having FOUR of the first FIVE picks and FIVE of the first SEVEN???? Absolutely incredible
  14. Thanks. I had forgotten how crazy recruiting had become down there in the '70s. Like I mentioned earlier, I need to watch that ESPN special "Pony Excess" sometime.
  15. Pretty good summary, Quickzips The one team I'm going to have to....hmmm...sort of disagree with you on (think Bill Lumbergh) is Buffalo. While their OOC schedule hasn't been great, they seem to have young players emerging at the right time. They've been shooting it really well of late and Witherspoon always has them ready to play. I'm as concerned about the Bulls as I am anybody.
  16. Wow, I had obviously forgotten. That's sad and funny all at once I keep meaning to watch the ESPN show (Pony Excess) about this, but haven't found the time yet.
  17. You mean SMU, right? Eric Dickerson and Craig James were known as the Pony Express back in the old SWC before the shenanigans caught up with the Mustangs and the NCAA slammed them with the "death penalty".
  18. Growing pains, I'm afraid. If Alex plays it smart (or KD protects him a little better), the Zips may have won this one going away. Nevertheless, they gutted it out against a team that is much better than their record. Bring on K.E.N.T, because we all know:
  19. Link You have to love Joe quoting Frenchy at the end of the article Kudos to Josh for helping to get Alex acclimated to the area
  20. Update: 5Dimes has the Zips as 5 point favorites.
  21. As of 12:30 pm EST, there is no line on the game.
  22. I'm not sure if Todd Haley or Bill Belichick would agree with you on this. Charlie may have failed as a HC, but he clearly knows a little about being a successful OC. And in a place like UF, he'll be able to have the talent needed to make the pro-style offense work.
  23. Looks like "John Henry" isn't ready to concede to a machine just yet!
  24. That's a very sad situation. Pitt AD Peterson really had no choice once the charge was upgraded to a felony. I wouldn't be surprised to see Peterson go soon either. I guess this probably means Latina will likely stay at UA?
  25. I suppose the original question is a fair one, particularly for someone new to the forum. An equally fair question however is "why so much love for them?".
