  1. It's about time we recognized the excellent start for the tennis team this year The girls are currently 5-0 with road victories over Penn St., Michigan St. and most recently Louisville (link). I'll be the first to admit that I don't have a great sense of where the "powers" are in women's tennis (the southern programs would no doubt have some advantage), but this sounds pretty impressive to me. I wonder if there's any chance at all for a possible ranking down the road?GoZips Link
  2. Who knew the coach of the Steubenville Big Red was a UA grad??? We need to start tapping into that pipeline (and obviously RI agrees).
  3. Tom Gaffney has a nice, pretty in-depth, article about Rob's initial dealings as head coach of the Zips. GP1, hopefully you can look past the use of the "R" word just this once.BJ Linky
  4. Brett easily has the most diverse offensive skill set on the team. Others have hit the nail on the head with him as far as the lack of consistency goes. The other concern I have with Brett is that he seems to be involved in far more than his fair share of mis-communications on the court. This often leads to a silly turnover on the offensive end, or an uncontested shot on the defensive end. Who knows, maybe it's because he's not on the court with his brother as often this year? But this would be an area in which I'd like to see some improvement.BTW, the CMU game is Tuesday, not Wednesday.
  5. Maybe CMU places more emphasis on the KD connection?
  6. I think we need to give credit to Ball St here as well. They've been playing very well lately and they were at home. Do we have LOTS of room for improvement? Absolutely. But I'm pretty HAPPY coming out of Muncie with a W.
  7. Go Zips!
  8. Agreed. The Zips need to keep up the defensive pressure when Ball St makes an inevitable run in the 2nd half. The competitiveness of Humpty and Nik is certainly showing.
  9. And they just kept making Milton's life more and more miserable, hoping he would finally get the hint and leave. Seems like a pretty good parallel for a Can't State football coach. Wonder if Martin has noticed any boxes being stacked in his office yet? With his pay already the lowest in FCS, Doogie better hope the K.E.N.T. administration doesn't "fix the glitch"
  10. I hope the team bus made it through to Muncie without much difficulty. It would really be nice if Conyers had one of his monster rebounding games today. Can a good shooter like McNees stay cold forever? Look for his shot to fall today.
  11. Milton and Martin.....good parallel! After all they both have been heard to mutter something to the effect of "burn the building down".
  12. By trading one Blue and White for another, the 2010 OOC schedule is certainly a step in the right direction. Don't forget, Kentucky is breaking in a new HC too (Joker Phillips). Sure, we could easily be 1-3 out of the gates all the same. You have to look at the 'Cuse game as being the key for two reasons. First and most obvious it is the opener, not just to the season, but to RI's head-coaching career. But SU also looks to be, at this point, the one BCS opponent who is closest to the Zips in talent and program development (after all, the aggregate score the last two years for these schools is all square at 56-56). IF the Zips come out of the gate fast, maybe G-Webb becomes a blowout and UA could steal one of two in Kentuckiana. On the other hand, if the Zips are slow to respond to the new staff, even the G-Webb game could be a struggle and dare I say a winless record heading into the MAC wouldn't be completely out of the question. These are the extreme scenarios of course, so somewhere in between is most likely. I simply can't get a pulse on this myself until I see the product on the field.
  13. I've been wondering lately when we might see where JD will eventually surface, and I stumbled upon this oddity (link). Evidentally a Pitt fan was reading FootballScoop.com a while back when Syracuse's HC Marrone was rumored to be talking to JD. Apparently it was all baloney. I know some of us were greatly puzzled over the Getsy to Pitt, Getsy to Akron, Getsy to Pitt story. So we're not surprised. Sure, part of this is just the nature of the beast (trying to get the "scoop"). But I thought it was interesting to read this warning from another camp nonetheless. The Panther fan didn't care too much for Harris or JD.LinkBTW I hope JD does land something soon, just so he gets to stay in the game. There was so much turnover this off-season, but you would think things have stabilized quite a bit by now. Maybe an NFL job still awaits. But Shanahan brought his kid from the Texans as the new Redskin OC. It looks like all the position coaches have been filled in Washington as well.
  14. Ouch. I know Martin's a common last name, but didn't Dale go to Bolingbrook?
  15. Great pics! Thanks for borrowing them, Doc. Wasn't Nik called for a foul on that play?
  16. Now that's PRECISELY what Madge and the gals down at the salon are paid to protect. Rumor has it they've already blown through 2 cases of Palmolive on the Tonganator
  17. This hasn't been a good week for the Monessen AD.LinkI hope ShelDon has the toughness of another Monessen native, former heavyweight champion Michael Moorer (AKA The Monessen Mauler)
  18. (please sing to the tune of oh where has my little dog gone)Oh where oh where has the Tonganator gone?Oh where oh where can he be?With his hair cut long and his monster hands,Oh where oh where can he be?Please check the weight room and get back to me. I looked. He wasn't there. Any other guesses?Practicing his swim move in the natatorium?Taking advantage of the one-size-fits-all manicure special at the local salon?
  19. (please sing to the tune of oh where has my little dog gone)Oh where oh where has the Tonganator gone?Oh where oh where can he be?With his hair cut long and his monster hands,Oh where oh where can he be?Please check the weight room and get back to me. Yes!!! I'm feeling better about the D-Line already.
  20. I finally received mine today. It's in the mail. I tried to rate "day of game" highly in order to let them know that I don't love weekday games. I also mentioned it in the comment section. I also commented on wanting to get in Lot 9 for parking (I was in Lot 4 last year, even though I had priority reserved seats).
  21. Has anybody seen the Tonganator?????????????????
  22. Patrick McCloskey might be a guy who can contribute soon to the O-Line (he even played LaX in HS!). If the new strength program is an improvement, I can see the talent we have already on OL and DL making big strides. It's not like we don't have a lot of letterwinners returning on both lines. BTW, does anyone know if the Tonganator is still in school at UA?
  23. So I'm as disheartened as most by what I've seen lately. But let's talk about the next game a bit. Do we see many line-up changes? Will the rotations be limited? Will KD mimic Geno's rant just prior to K.E.N.T righting their ship? Will MAC referees ever figure out that, yes, Nik really CAN pull off that spin move without switching his pivot foot?
  24. Q27: Don't you hate it when g-mann17 kills the buzz?Q28: Don't you think he should refrain from thread-killing?Q29: Don't you sometimes want to call him RICHARD CRANIUM?Yes, yes and yes. :CK_brew:Nifty move around the censors!
  25. Not looking very good at all right now.......reminds me of NIU the last two years.
