I agree to the fact that if there was room for renegotiations, that hey should have taken place. However, it is not that easy to drop a game and go out and find someone else that would pay more. Believe me, OSU would not have a problem finding another opponent. However, what makes everyone out there think that we can just pick up the phone and get on someone else schedule? It just doesn't work that way.

We could sit for days on end and speculate the reasons one team or era was better/worse than the other. Those are intangibles. Yes, we got to a Bowl 2 years ago, but what happened last year with what was suppose to be a stellar class of athletes? We went into the proverbial toilet. We need to focus on this year, and let everything be what it really is, just another part of Zips footabll history.

K.e.n.t. Declines 2008 Patriot Bowl
akronad replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Z-P: I said the same thing when the schedule was released and everyone poo-pooed me. They all would rather play 7 games on the road, 1 in Clevleand and 4 at the RB rather than a mosre balanced schedule.I certainly hope next year's schedule will start reflecting a better balance! -
On a slighty different note, I was driving down 77S, just north of the Copley Rd. exit, when I looked up at one of those ClearChannel electronic billboards. It was in blue & gold and advertising for season tickets. I would say they are a bit late, since the season is only 2 weeks away.

Most Memorable Rubber Bowl Experience
akronad replied to g-mann17's topic in General UA & Campus Discussion
Several good ones & 1 horrible memory.GoodCan't State 2005, The most brutal conditions I have ever sat in for a college fb game.Northern Michigan, 1973, The 2nd most brutal weather conditions for a college fb game, I can't remember the exact year, but it was when Stevie Wonder was booed off the stage as he was opening for the Stones. And the most horrbile memory I will have, is the night Chris Angeloff collapsed on the field and passed. My best freind at that time was an Physicians Surgical Asst. and when Chris went down, my friend sprinted down the steps of the RB and was 1 0f the first on the scene to administer CPR. The mood of the bowl and that game were never the same for that night. If I remember correctly, that was the Acme-Zip game. -
It is confirmed. TP is leaving for the PD. I tlaked with somone in the sports dept. who confirmed that the sports editor (Rich) sent an e-mail to the rest of the sports staff that he was leaving.

I belive the OHSAA has a 3 yr. contract with Stark County to split the games between Massillon & Canton as they have for may years. As much as I want to have the championships here, I don't think it will ever happen. There has been a a big push the last few years by the schools in the southern part of the state to have the chmpionships in either Columbus or Cincy. They just don't want to travel so far. As long as Canton & Massillon keep puting on quality events, I'm sure that it will stay put.

We just received the letter on Thursday. Bus trip & pre-game party is $40.00 and is being sponsored by the Alumni Assoc. Give them a call.

Unless something from the unknown happens, the design we have seen over the last 10 days will be the one that will be built. From what I am being told, the announcement will be at noon at Quaker Square. tis will be after the trustees meeting in the mrnign where they wiil actually approvew and OK the project.
-
They already sub-contracted the food vendors at the Bowl. It is run by a company out of Toledo call V/Gladiueax. The University has not run the concessions for the last 3 years.
-
I think we're just waiting until Wednesday. I haven't heard anything new for awhile.

Racer: Indiana was suppose to play here this year, but with the advent of the new stadium 2 years away, Mack has revamped some of the schedule. It will either be Kentucky or Indiana playing the inaugral game in the new stadium. Also, look for other BCS schools to make the trek to Akron in the future.
-
You are correct. $25 million in bonds and $30 million in donations. They already have in excess of $21 million pledged. That is not too bad. Now Mack has to start beating the bushes of all alumni to make a pledge. I don;t think it is too unreasonable a request.

The game with C.A.N.T that was originally scheduled for 6:00 pm was changed to 3:00 pm to accomodate FSN. It has now been changed to a noon kick-off and will be part of the ESPN Regional /MAC package and will be carried by WEWS (Channel 5).
-
That's 27,500 seats. Definitely 30k with SRO.
-
The stadium is to hold 27,500. The Univ. does not believe they need to add any parking spaces since they they currently have 10,000 on campus spaces available. The old Buchtel field is being renovated for intramural sports. It looks as though Exchange St. will be the main corridor to the U of A.
-
And the second highest bidder, will have the naming rights for the field.
-
27,500 & it will be open ended, not a bowl. 55M to build. Will not affect tuition, it will be all donations (30M) & bonds 25M.Design is very interesting.Rasor, I can get you a picture of the stadium. We just need a way to communicate.
-
Will the Stadium be ready? From what I just read, they still haven't found the source of the leaking pipe. It sounds as if the lockerrooms are going to have be recarpeted and the lockers repaired, since there is still 6-8" of standing water. It looks as though they are going to have their hands full getting the facility back up to status.
-
There will be 6 MAC games on ESPN Plus, which will beaired on WEWS.9/15 Cincy @ Miami9/22 Temple @ BG9/29 NIU @ C. Mich10/6 Cen. Mich. @ Ball State10/13 E. Mich. @ OU10/20 Miami @ Temple

An announcement is forthcoming next month. They are still tweaking the plans. Several of the athletic administrators were in Kansas City at the architects office 2 weeks ago going over the entire plan. They know how much this means to everyone and they are trying to make sure it gets done properly. They do not want it to end up like the JAR,

The new Damon's will be in the O'neils Bldg., just north of the Barley House. It will also serve as home to the Ohio Brewing Co., which will be a micro-brew pub. They no longer are going to tear down the bldgs. north of the Civic. Renovations have already begun to the interiors of those structures. The City is hoping that the Main St. levels will contain shops & restaurants, while the remainder will be either condo's or offices. They have already removed the parking deck that was behind and connected to the Civic. That area I believe is Lock IV and they hope to create green space in that area.Supposedly prior to Mike Thomas leaving Akron, he had already received commitments from various shops, boutiques and restaurants for the new stadium.

Mike: That is the stadium conception, the same thing that was printed in the BJ. Try talking to Paul Hammond, he might be able to give you a bit more detail.
