You know what I want to see in the new stadium complex?
akronad replied to zippyrifle32's topic in Akron Zips Football
The only reson beer has not been sold in the RB is because the steps are uneven and there are no handrails. Nothing is up to code. I have heard several times, that beer we sold in the new stadium. Let's hope for the best. -
I received referral info in the packet along with my renewal info for season tickets.I just letft the Univ. and renewed for the next 2 years.GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

For what is worth,My son, who works as an SID at a D2 in Arkansas & would like to work for the U of A was talking to an SID from a D2 school here in Ohio and that individual told my son in no uncertain terms not to apply or accept a postion with U of A because the Athletic Adminstration is totally screwed up.My question is this: If this university's athletic administration is so screwed up, why is it I just spent over $1000 on season tikcets for fb for the next 2 years? Who is screwd up?

Women's Basketball - 5 are leaving - Finally in Beacon
akronad replied to zipfan 81's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Regardles of what WE think, the bottom line is this: the coach (and I don't care who or what school we are talking about) is the coach and the players are the players. What the coach says, goes. In HS, if my coach had told me to run thru a brick wall, I sure as heck would have run thru a brick wall.My son works for a D2 school in Arkansas. Their female & male soccer coach left the program at the end of the season. There were many soccer players that liked him and decided that if he was not going to be there, that they would ask for their walking papers. The adminisration at the school gladly acommodated them and are now rebuilding both programs from the 1st bldg. block.Let's just allow Coach Kest to do her job. I'm sure that if she doesn't, Mac will take the apprrpriate actions. -
Although this is a semi-moot point at this time, I will throw in my 2 cents worth. First, and foremost IF we are looking to rehab or build a new arena, it will be a new arena. Originally, the JAR was designed like the Convo Center at CSU. However, politics got in the way, and we got screwed, with a half-a-- built facility. There was no forethought or rhyme or reason as to how the JAR was built. Just give Akron a new facility that is bigger than Memorial Hall. That wa sthe line of thinking at the time. So, we have a arena that holds what, 5500 people? That is not even double the capacity of Memorial Hall. Winning plays an important role in this project. People love a winner. Remember, the MAC fb championship and the bowl game in Detroit. There were so many people that went to those games. Why? Because, Akron was a winner AND just as importantly had a massive PR machine at that time. That's another thing, the Sports Infomation Department needs to work with the promotional depatment and get the word out and bodies into the stands. Finally, the cost of new faciltiy is not cheap. We would have to solicit big money (again) from the big time alumni or form a partnership with the City or someone else to help foot the bill. We really need to be creative and come up with a win-win solution for everyone.

No, they don't! My son graduated from Ashland U. , and still refers to it as either Ashland or Ashland U.

Ramel Mitchell from Firestone, will be going to Can't as a preferred walk-on. KD never even took a look at the kid. -
I still waiting for my invitation!!

This day can be REALLY rough on an eternal optimist like myself ... can we just get to April 2nd already?! Amen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Ben is available, however, Geno was brought in specifically to inherit the job when Christian left. Kennedy is just doing his job by saying the position was going to be a nationwide search. He already has his coach.

I agree, that we need to keep KD, which means we need to ramp up his salary. I see only a few opitons in that area. First, and foremost, we need to sell-out the JAR every game. This generates revenue. Not only from the ticket sales, but also form parking, concessions, souvenirs, etc. However, with the limited amount of seating at the JAR this will not help entirely. The U needs to budget more money to the program. This would hopefully come in the way of endowments, the Z Club or just plain old donations. We, alumni & students, collectively, have to come up with the ways to fund this endeavor. And the more ideas, the better!!

Unless something really strange happens, Christian to TCU, Geno Ford to coach Can't & Jerry Laria, now at Firestone HS to be one of Geno's asst. coaches.Christian has wanted to get out of Can't the last 2-3 years, so his leaving does not come as a surprise to me. Geno was brought back specifically to be groomed as the next head coach, & Jerry and Geno are very good friends. As a true Zips fan, I hope it to be rough sailing for Can't the next couple of years. But, don't underestimate Geno, he really knows his basketball and will be a very good coach.

Although this has piqued my curiosity, we have to remember that discipline is in the hands of the coaches and theya re not obligated to tell the public or the press why they were removed from the team. In fact, if they did say something, I am sure that the coach and the university could be sued. Also, I am put into this same situation on almost a daily basis and I concur with not informing anyone of the the reason(s) for the removal. We can speculate all we want to, but the bottom line is we will know the entire story. We just have to maintina our confidence that the coach is doing the correct thing by removing players.

I see where Ben Braun is no longer at CAl.
-
Christian will be moving on. He has wanted to leave Can't the last 2 years, but the right offer has not appeared. When he does leave, look for his top asst. Geno Ford to take the helm. Geno will be bringing on board a retiring City Series coach.

You've got to luv the MAC and their scheduling???? Two things bother me. First the 18 days off. Basically , we are playing 2 half seasons. The only good thing is if we have injuries, they have time to heal. The bad thing is the rthym and continuity the team will have built will be lost. Secondly, the last game at the RB on a Thursday night is nothing short of a travesty. Every year, we keep hearing the same old tune. That they want to make the games family entrtainment. Well playing on a Thursday nite will not get it done. If the game is a 7:00 start and since the game will be on TV, you just know the length of the game will be in excess of 3 hrs. Which will put school age chidren home and in bed around 11:00. But, how many of these kids will actually go to sleep right away? I don't have school aged children, but just trying to look at the total picture.

Wisconsin is a go for 8/30 according to what Tom gaffney wrote in the BJ on Saturday. As far as the kKentucky game for '08 is concerned, I think it is the right move to make. Otherwise we would be starting out with 4 road games and opening the home season with Cincy 9/27. This way, things will be a bit staggered. I just hope we can find a competent replacement team.
-
I just checked the U of C schedule and they are planning on playing us in Akron on Sept. 27.
-
The game will be played. 1) Northern has been in town since they played Can't on Saturday, 2) the officials are already in town, & 3) there is no room on the schedule that would work for either team to reschedule.

Temple WR Recruit Flys the Coop
akronad replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
So, without subscribing to either of the previously posted sites, what does this say? From what I am reading, Akron does not even fit into this kids plans, Not even in the top 6! So, if all of a sudden he chooses Akron, WHY??? Let's look beyond his stats on the field, we have got to be missing something!! Do we really need another project player? I am just as disaillusioned by all of the JUCO's we are allegedly recruiting. JUCO's at our level are nothing more than band-aids, stop gaps! If we cannot recruit incoming freshmen to accomodate our needs, then the system must be broken. If the system is broken, do we dare look any further than the coaching staff? Do we dare look beyond the coaching stafff and look at the administration of the athletic department? -
I agree about devolvong into crap. But, was it all CJ's fault? Or was it the offensive plays and schemes that were or werre not called by the offensive coordinator the culprit? As I said many times b4, I was not and am not a fan of either CJ.JD put himself into this pickle and now it looks as though it is going to be difficult for him to get out from under.Remember b4 the season started that there appeared to be qb controversy and JD suuposedly put it all in prospective by naming CJ11 as the starter and allowing CJ7 to play a series in the 2nd quarter. JD even mentioned that nothing good comes out of a qb controversy. Well he was right with that assessment. Regardless of who he started heand the coaching staff needed to show either CJ that they had the confidence in him to run the team. We never saw that with either qb. JD needs to make a decision and stick with it rather than flip-flopping.

This is only the start to the stadium bids. I'm sure that there will be areas that will be above the expected costs. If we come out at the 61mil they projected, I will be a very happy camper.GP1, sometimes I agree with and other times I do not. This is 1 time where I tend to disagree with you. Akron will never be the same place as it once was. Most of the big factoires and headquarters have moved to other locations due to incentives given to them by state and local govenments. That was why ot was so important to keep Goodyear in Akron. Without Goodyear this town would have become the next Youngstown. Now there is still hope. The same hope we carry for all of our sports teams here at U of A.The housing crunch is not just an Akron or Ohio thing. If you ahve been doing any reading or paying attention to any news broadcasts, you would have known that this is a nationwide problem and that Akron is in the same boat as everyone else. All due to sub-prime lending.Akron schools are not the best in the state, but they are the best out of the top 8 urban districts in the state. That is not saying that they have work to do, but they are better than Cleveland, Columbus, Youngtown, Toledo, etc.Like the Akron schools or the City of Akron, we do not have the best athletic prgrams in the MAC, but we keep trying. If we don't keep trying, what is there to live of cheer for.GO ZIPS & GO AKRON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More than likely, beer will be available to purchase in the new facility. The reason it is not sold inside at the RB, is because the RB is not up to code.(i.e. eneven steps, no hand rails, etc.)
