  1. OK. I've scoured every area media site and it is not being reported theat Frye has been cut.Did Charlie play poorly yesterday. Yes, but it wasn't just him. just look at the first punt , it was mishadled and then 4 penalties on top of that. This whole thing goes a lot deeper than the qb. I don't care if it is Charlie, Anderson or Cry Brady. None of these guys are going to be able to gets things turned around.
  2. Hey Capt. : Wife & I went down on one of those buses. After we had checked in at the JAR, we were headed out to the bus when some guy came in wearing an OSU t-shirt. I firmly made the comment to him that he was wearing the wrong color, which got me a couple of high 5's. Also, when we at the Fawcett Center for the pre-game the AK-Rowdies did a wonderful job of embarrassing 2 or 3 people that had traveled on the buses that wore scarlett & red.
  3. How about the Winking Lizard or Rocknes? Both establishments support Zip athletics.
  4. We need to quit talking about we use to have, because they are not coming back. We need to be talking about we have and what we will have for the future.
  5. Assessment of the game.1. All of last season and after the Army game, I have been complaining about special teams. Although, I could not evaluate the field goal kicking unit, I must say Stec was punting the ball with authority and our coverage was very good. On kick-offs, it looked like the blocking wasn't always there.2. Offense-where????????? I'm sure we will hear from JD that they took everything away except the east-west routes. We really need to find a way to move the ball north-south. This is just about what I expected this season with an inexperienced qb and a young line.3. Defense- They played their butts off. an expectional game and this unit just might keep us in the thick of things in the MAC.After sleeping on things, I have come to this conclusion about our opponent from Columbus. They seemed to have more depth than us and were a well disciplined defensive unit. Like us, i think they will see thier problems on offense.Go Zips!!!!!! Bring on the Hoosiers.
  6. I agree. We don't need a QB derby. I thought Jackson was going to play the 1st of the 2nd quarter and that was it. when I looked onto the field for both the 1st and 2nd series, it was still Jaq. then Jackson came in, then kaq in the 3rd quarter, then when we could move the ball, back to Jackson. There is no consistentcy and it does cause havoc with the rest of the offensive personnel.I am not a proponent nor an opponent of either qb. Let's just make a choice who we are going to play and stick with that choice.
  7. As a soccer fan, it is hands down a soccer weekend. I have all the confidence in this team to be able to leave this tourney 2-0. Ole, Ole, Ole!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. There was about half a chance in h--l that adams was going to commit to Akron. He has stars in his eyes and he thinks he is better than he truly is. I know for a fact that he is going try to finish hs by December so he can start college in January. The fact of the matter is, Johnny Adams WILL NOT ever play a down for MSU. He has no people skills and has only one thing on his mind, And that is Johnny Adams. I look for him to try to come to Akron in '09.
  9. You are correct, it goes to the operating budget. And for those of you that think, operating D1 programs is easy, think again. It costs in excess of several million to run D1 programs. That is why we take those so called 'money" games.
  10. I had the Zips winning 21-20. I guess I gave Army too much credit on offense. I'm just glad we won.
  11. This is one you can't blame on the Zips Ticket Office. this game was staged by the Cleveland Sports Commision and they are the ones that did the seating assignments. Not everyone seating on the the home side was from Army. A friends father has Browns season tickets, so they got tickets for the game. They arrived expecting to sit with Akron fans and they were seated with the Armny faithful. If this event is going to continue, I would a couple of suggestions. 1. Give the option to season ticket holders to upgrade their seats. I would have gladly done that if there had been an offer. 2. For whatever school is the home team, let them sit on the home team side. I thought was kinda of weird for us being the home team and sitting on the opposite side. Screwy set-up. I hope they came away with some better ideas and things will get better with future games.
  12. Wife & I were in the W. 3rd lot, right along the tracks. When we got there, there might have been 10 other vehicles. By the time we left at 6:15 to go to the game, the lot was getting full and plenty of tail-gaters.BTW, thanks for the info on the lot. This was our first time to the stadium and other than the muni lot, I had no idea where to go to party. Also, the wife like it because it was so close to the stadium.
  13. Ok. My version of the GBU.QB's-I think we have 2 decent qb's at this time and there is nothing I can see that say's they shouldn;t get better. Will they make some mistakes, sure, but if they learn form those mistakes and keep those to a minimum, we will be just fine.RB's- I glad we have a couple of competent replacements for Kennedy. There should be enough work for all.OL-Nice job. Keep working.DL- I thought they did alright. In the 3-3-5, their function is alot like a 3-3-4. Especially, the NG.LB's- Good job.DB's- Very good job. When you can gwt an interception and return it for a TD, it is always a good day.Special teams-Kick-offs for everyone are going to be interesting and different this year, since it is taking place at the 30 instead of the 35 yd. line. Punting- What is it with Stec doing a rollout b4 punting the ball? The 1 punt I saw when he actually just kicked it rather than rolling out, was his best punt of the nite. How could we have a punt blocked, when everyone in the house knew that Army was going to throw an entire division at them? Definitely needs work!!!FG & PAT-I heard all thry camp that this was a problem and guess what is was! Igor needs to put the ball between the posts. This is a guy who was high on the list 2 years ago and I just don't see it.All in all, not a bad performance by the Zips (a victory). Not let's head for Columbus play the game and hope we don't leave with any serious injuries.
  14. Unfortunately, due to my job, I need to get both the BJ & PD on a daily basis. Other wise, 1 of them would be history.
  15. If you only how close to the truth you are!I got a sneak look at tomorrow's column and it is all about OSU-YSU.Go figure.
  16. To be honest, I see both sides of this issue very clearly.Do we need to generate community pride? Absolutely! I would guess that most of the people attending are less than a 90 minute drive from Akron. So, it makes sense to build from the core and work out. But, that will only go so far. You have to have a quality product on the field. A team that will win consisitently year in and year out. After winning the MAC and going to the MOtor City Bowl, expectations were high. Maybe, too high. Anyways, last year did nothing to help us after we fell flat on our faces after the NC State game.We need a way to bridge both community support and winning to draw not only the fans, but quality BCS opponents to our games.
  17. Hey BuckZip: I agree that what I said was excuses, but what are you going to say when we only get that 15-18k at the game.BTW: I wasn;t really trying to make excuses, but just trying to show people that there is (believe it or not) other things happening in Cleveland this weekend.I hope we get 30k to the game! I would gladly take the lambasting from everyone if that did happen.Like you, I can;t wait for the season to begin. Because of my job, I'm required to watch at least 2 HS games per weekend plus any other sports activities duirng the week. So, I get more than my share of sports, yet I'm willing to follow the Zips on Saturdays (or any other day).Let's hope for the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  18. Like skip-zip, I was a pessimist in regards to this game. It looks like maybe 15k-18k. My reasons are many, and I'll try to keep them brief.1. Read either today's BJ or PD and you'll see that we are living in the midst of a poverty area.2. People have less $'s for entertainment than they have in the past. Look at last night's Indians game. You have a team that is 1st place at the end of August and you can't even fill the place.3. Air Show4. Indians game.5. Taste of ClevelandI could probably mention 5 more events, but why?I said it when this was announced and I'll say it again, "This s--ks!!!"
  19. I can;t believe he is a season ticket holder. He had to purchase them or knows someone with First Merit.
  20. Yes, it bodes well for the future. However, in D1 fb, the future is today. How many years am I going to hear the same stuff about the future. Let's get some players and get things going now. Yeah, I know I'm impatient, but you would be too if you have lived your entire life in NE Ohio.
  21. Everyone of you thinks you can just pick up a phone a get for the next 2 years. Forget about it!!!!!!!!! Most schedules are made out anywhere from 4 - 7 years out. Look at the Zips future schedules and you will see that we have most if not all of our non-league games scheduled for the next 4 years. Should we have tried to renegotiate?Possibly, but what makes anyone out there think the Buckeyes would have agreed? And if we told them to "go pound salt", what makes any of you think we could have gotten a better opponent?Although we love our Zips with our heart & souls, college football is really a business
  22. Unfortunately, we can't wait for the big money games. These kinds of games are scheduled 3-7 prior to the game date.
