First of all I think getting BQ sucks. He has never impressed me and he definitely has not won the big games. I do not use the word choke, because there can be many reasons why a team or an individual player does not perform.Professional sports stink. I had the opportunity this week to talk with 2 former pro fb players who live in this area. The owners are all business. Wins and $$$$$$$$. Yet, they expect the player to be loyal to the team. Players cannot be loyal when it is considered a business, they have to look out for their interests just like the owners look out for their's.All though, I enjoy watching pro sports events, I will not pay a nickel to go see a pro team play. Give me a good college or high school game anytime. As for Charlie, I wish him the best. I know he can catch on with another team. As for BQ, if he had the O-line that Charlie or Tim Couch had, he would just be another piece of raw meat.

I'm sure FMR is looking for other ties for day, such as any baseball or softball games being played. Also, if Mack or JD will be making any comments. How about a drawing for 2 season tickets?Anything to promo the Hell outof the event and get more to campus.

After reading all of the previous posts, I have decided to remain cautiously optimistic. I think back to this time last season, and it seems as if we were unbeatable. Boy, did things change. We need to keep a positive menatl attitude and hope some of the breaks that went against us last season even out.As far as OSU is concerned, this is probably going to be a loss for us and I personally would prefer playing another home game than going to Columbus, even though I love being in that city. This game is being played for 1 reason and 1 reason only, MONEY!!!!!!!!!Let's forget about the OSU game and concentrate on winning the MAC and getting back to the MAC Champonship.

For season ticket holders with reserved seats, what are the plans for the game in Cleveland vs. Army?
-
I'm all in favor of a domed facility. I think Cleveland missed the boat big time when they built the new Cleveland Stadium domeless. As far as the city or the Akron schools buying back the RB, you can forget about that idea. The money that would be need to fix and maintain the RB is well into the millions, which neither the City or the schools have.My guess is the it will be sold to City, but will be torn down and the land used to promote the airport area or Derby Downs.

Thanks and nice job with the research. You are right about Memorial Hall. It was great place for the time the Zips needed such a place, but to average that many people, you would needed a shoehorn.

In the words of a humble old man"be careful what you wish for, becuase you might just get it"!
-
I will be there. However, "Quickasazip33", you need to modify the first sentence. The 26 wins is the best the Zips have done as a D1 program. However, as a fan dating back to the days of Wyatt Webb, his 26 wins in a D2 program were just as important.GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
What you need to remember i this; It isn't always hat is good for the Zips. It is or might be what would be for Cleveland. This is a promotional game established by Cleveland for Cleveland and nothing else.
-
Of course the Zips will defeat ARmy.BUT IT IS STILL NOT A HOME GAME!!!!Contrary to what all of you might think. We not using U of A facilites, regardles of how rickety they are, ergo it is not a home game. Will we draw more people to Cleveland? I hope so.Will it be more fun? It could be, if it is marketed properly.

After ranting the other evening, I have given this some more thought. From a PR standpoint this is a good move. Also, since it is being considered a home game, if it is promoted properly, attendance should be very good. From a personal view, THIS IS NOT A HOME GAME! We are playing at a neutral location and just being named the home team.Since it is being considered a home game, this still means we are playing on the road for 7 games. What happened to Mack ttrying to balance the schedule? And don;t erven give me that tommyrot that they are setting the scheduel up for 2009. We still have 07 & 08 to deal with and what ahppens if we don't get the funding necessary for the new stadium? We are screwed big time.
-
Let's see! Oh yea. Stnaford's record was 18-13 and 10-8 in the PAC-10. They really deserved to be in. (yeah, right).
-
What am I missing here? Over the last year manynof you have been complaining because we do not have enough home games. I DO NOT CONSIDER PLAYING IN CLEVELAND A HOME GAME AND NEITHER SHOULD YOU.The players from both schools will enjoy playing in a pro stadium. However, has anyone thought about expenses. Everything will have to be trucked from the RB to Cleveland. And for the fans, you thought parking at the Bowl was bad and expensive, wait until you get to Cleveland. As a fan for many more years than some of you are old, THIS JUST SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAC Gets Hustled Again - The NIT Fiasco
akronad replied to MACReport's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
As a Zip going back to the 70's and a tradionalist, I say stay in the MAC. The fan in me says, "GET THE HELL OUT OF THE MAC!!!!!!!"Two of the main reasons we got out of the OVC (1 bid) was the travel and the expenses to travel. If we want to get into another league, fine. However, we are going to have to find a way to fund the programs. Do we want to be like other universities that have recently dropped programs because their budgets could not afford them?I would say our university fathers have some hard decisons to make. -
If this has been posted, sorry.KD met with Can't State's Laing Kennedy yesterday. Keith wanted some answers. B/4 those horrible 6.6 seconds, the NCAA committee was ready to seed akron as a #10. So, what H_ll happened for us not only not make the NCAA but the NIT as well.Nothing but 6.6 seconds. It still hurts today.I can only imagine how tough it is for the players even today.
-
It would just be another typical NE Ohio ball buster if we do not even get an NIT bid.I can't see how that committee would pass over us, but strange occur all sorts of sports teams in our region. Two things.1. If we do get an NIT bid, do we get a first and/or second round home game? and2. If we do get that first round game, will play the game on Tuesday or Friday? The JAR is booked next Wed., Thur., and Sat. for the OHSAA D-1 regionals.
-
First of all we are only at the half. Secondly, I have the same philosphy as the preseding poster, which is, it is almost impossible to beat a team 3 times in a seado. Be prepared foran invite to the NIT. Hopefully, they will give us a home game for the first round.

Watched the entire game at home last night. What a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The officiating was worse than lousy, especially the phantom traveling call on Linhart. That was a joke of a call.My hats off to the Zips. Fantastic ob. Keep it going. As a side note, I ran into Gerry Faust this morning. He told me that last nites game was the best college game he has seen this year. Coming from a former fb coach, not too bad.GO ZIPS

Yeah, sure!!If it is in the marketing department it's true. Our marketing dept. sucks. Between them and the ticket office, they need to clean house.

Retire the Jerseys? Dru and Rome in the Rafters?
akronad replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I agree wholeheartedly! Both Dru & Romeo have been very good players, However, what have they really done to distinguish themselves as players deserving to have their jersey hung in the rafters? Not enough in my opinion. They really need to distinguish themselves that players that make a difference.I hope that happens the next couple of weeks.Meanwhile, let's run the table and win the Mac championship in Cleveland. -
This is how it use to be when the Zips played in the OVC.Simply put, "THEY SUCKED THEN, AND THEY SUCK NOW"
