Good News Concerning Will Flemming
akronad replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
I spoke with someone close to Hoban onWednesday. It seems as if Michigan State is now the leading contender. I mentioned Akron, and person I was speaking with frowned and said " things are not good at Akron right now". I still hope Will changes his mind and becomes a Zip. -
Yes, we are offensive(stink) on offense. :o However, Coach Moorhead is not all of the problem. Who do you think he answers to? Who do you think has a say so in our offensive schemes? Who do you think has the authority to override an y call made by Coach M? That's right, JD!!! I know for a fact that when Coach made the offensive call on several criticla 3rd downs this season, that they were overridden by JD. And guess what? We didn't convert any of those 3rd downs. Whether we have Coach M or get another OC, they did to be on the same page as JD.

I can understand the dislike and disdain for the Buckeyes, since the local media is too stupid & too ignorant to give the local school or schools any pub. However, if you think it is any different in Louisiana, think again. They are just as rabid and insane down there for LSU as the folks from Columbus are for OSU. And just like like Columbus, most of the folks in Louisiana did not go LSU. H--l, most folks in Louisiana never went to school.

To me, it doesn't really matter who is the QB. The problem is deeper than those of you that think neither one has any talent. The problem is JD. 1. He needs to make a decison on who will be the qb and stick with it. 2. What JD has shown us all season, is that he has absolutley no confidence in either CJ.JD, please make a decison and stick with it, thru thick and thin.!

Mentally Deficient Bob Kitten Fans Say

Oh!!! I forgot, you must be Frank Slolich's chauffeur. -
Rece Davis is doing the play-by-play, with Lou Holtz and Mark May doing the analysis.

The lights have been temporarily removed. They will be put pack up after the game next week. The same thing has happened the last 2 years.

Capt.: I agree with you 100 %. If you read some of JD's comment from his press conference, he stated that DK is just not running the way that he used to and he doesn't have explanation why. You mentioned the lack of home games. I agree with you, but some of that is our fault. We got the opportunity to play Army in Cleveland for the Patriot Bowl, and it was considered 1 of our home games. When this was announced, I was opposed to it and still am today. Everyone on these boards was so happy we were playing in Cleveland. Reasons ranged from : we're not laying at the the RB to if we're playing in Cleveland there will be 30,000 - 40,000 in attendance. We didn't even get 20,000 for that game. We would have gotten the same amount of people to the RB, since it was the first game of the season! I am not looking to have JD fired, but some changes have got to be made. You mention the play calling in the red zone in 2 of the games. This is exactly what I am talking about. Yes, I also know that this is JD's 4th year as a head coach anywhere, and that he is till learning the ropes. That is all well and good, but at whose and waht expense?Keep up the good work Captain.

I have been around UA sports twice as long as the age of most you. I have endured the good, the bad & the ugly in all of our athletic endeavors. The one thing I keep reading is: if, maybe, should have, what if, etc. All of those are speculations We need to start making positive results. We keep trying to make excuses. We all need to accept the consequences for our actions and we need to make notice to the powers that be, that we are not satisfied we the direction or lack of direction the the football program.

That's true. However, LO never had a field house, practice field, or a new stadium to draw players. We have a premier field house and a practice field directly on campus, along with everyone's dream come true, a new state-of-the art stadium. In 4 years, even though we have heard the hype, about our great recruiting classes, what has JD accomplished. Yes, we won the MACC and played in the Motor City Bowl. Those were 2 wonderful experiences, but let's be realistic. We got lucky to be even in the MACC and just as lucky to go to the bowl game. As far as I am concerned, the jury is still out on JD. These last 4 games will show us if he has anything left in the tank or playing out the string.

I agree. I hear the toilet flushing now.

First, where or who says that JD must communicate to all of the loyal Zip followers his punishment or discipline regarding CJ7 or any other player on the team? As a former coach, all that information was kept confidential. Any thing we heard about CJ7's discipline came by word of mouth and never directly from JD.To me it doesn't matter who is at QB, because the season is about a whole lot more than a qb controversy. We have no offense, no defense, special teams are mediocre at best. Plus we have a head coach that is still learning how to be a head coach. How much longer will this be allowed to continue?
-
I'm not saying he is a liar, it's just that when you get into negotiations such as this, all parties want to to keep things confidential until all the i's have been dotted and t's crossed.I have had several dealings with Mac and found him to be honest and forthright. As far as his tenure at Akron is concerned, I think the jury is still out on him, much the same way as it is out on JD.
-
not happening. asked mack myself and he said no. i choose to believe him. Do you really think Mac or any coach looking for another job is going to tell you or anybody else that they are actively pursuing job ops? No Way!

I'm sure that if John qualified for a med red shirt, he would sit it out. My guess is that he didn't qualify for the the med red and this is his last hurrah. He wants to go out playing football the only way he knows how.My hat's off to John, I just hope that when he gets into his 30's+ that he will have med problems the rest of his life.

If the Zips have another losing season, should JD be fired?
akronad replied to InTheZone's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am not a Lee Owens fan, but let's get all the facts out there. Don't forget, he spent 3 years at OSU. Also, he had 11 years of experience as a hs head football coach, which is more tahn JD. However, I wouldn't put of lot of stock into that, when you include Gerry Faust, who had more than enough hs experience. -
I agree with the Capt. & g-mann on this one.We are building a new stadium and trying to entice future players and students to attend Uof A. Moving the game to Cleveland is counter to all of that.Besides, it is more fun to attend games at the college stadiums.

The Serbian Szczerbiak?
akronad replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
I will believe when I know his signature is on the dotted line. Too many times, I have heard or knew players that had verbally committed to this school or that school, and by the time it came for signings, another school has swooped in , promising the moon and the player committs to that school. It will be an excellent catch if he does sign with us. -

The City of Akron announced plans for new student housing downtown.Press Release: A prominent block of downtown real estate is about to become the central city's newest address for residential living. Mayor Don Plusquellic introduced developer Marty Mehall of Richland Communities, Ltd. of Middleburgh Heights to reporters at his weekly news conference this morning. Mehall, who for 24 years has built single-family homes in Ohio and Florida, has more recently developed apartment communities in Akron, Avon Lake, Can't and Cuyahoga Falls. His company has also begun creating student housing around Can't State University. The apartment community in downtown Akron will be exclusively for students attending the University of Akron and be created in the block bounded by Main, High, Exchange and Cedar streets. Mehall told reporters, "There is an ever increasing demand here for student housing, and what we're producing is high-quality, market rate apartments with the wonderful amenities offered by downtown Akron living."Richland Communities, Ltd plans to build 150 units to house 450 persons who will rent by the bedroom instead of by the entire unit. "That way," Mehall said, "when students leave a unit, their former roommates won't have to absorb his or her share."Units will be completely furnished and have two beds, three beds or four beds. Every bed will have its own private bathroom and each unit a full kitchen and its own laundry facilities. The rooms will be computer-ready with high-speed internet access (both wired and wireless). Student rent will be from $649-$749 monthly and include all utilities. Mehall plans a fitness center, game room, study rooms and more in the complex.Within the block to be developed, the office building at 12 East Exchange Street will remain and the Richard Howe House will be relocated just a few blocks away. Currently at the corner of East Exchange and South High streets, the Howe House is a canal-era landmark. Known as the Howe Mansion by travelers on the Ohio & Erie Canal, this 1836 high-style Federal structure was the home of Richard Howe, the resident engineer of the Ohio & Erie Canal in the mid 19th century. The City of Akron plans to reposition the canal engineer's house to the banks of the historic Ohio & Erie Canal at the corner of Exchange and Water streets, just west of its current location where it will be restored to its original state and become the new headquarters to the Ohio & Erie Canalway Coalition, under the direction of President and CEO Dan Rice. Rice and the coalition have undertaken the restoration plan in partnership with the City of Akron.Once the block is cleared next summer, construction on the $25-30 million project will begin, with a planned move-in date of August of 2009 by UA students. Residents will also enjoy retail space located on the first floor of the four-story units along South Main Street. Apartments located on High, Cedar and Exchange streets will be strictly residential, according to Mehall.Mayor Plusquellic noted, "The apartment will essentially wrap around the block, and there'll be some open space around the office building at 12 East Exchange. But this will provide young adults with housing, entertainment, places to eat and enjoy themselves and offer some retail that might even help them with their studies."Mehall is expecting the retail to be run by larger, regional and national operators who have experience; business people who've "done it before" as he puts it.Source: City of Akron

As good a player and perosn that John is, I hope he doesn't attempt the comeback. Yes, I would love to se back playing defense for us, but sacrificing his body for the rest of his life is just no worth. He already has a shoulder problem that will be with him forever, and his knee, even though it can be surgically repaired, will give him fits from time to time.I truly admire his grit and determination and wish John nothing but the best of fortune for the rest of his life.

ONCE AGAIN,WHAT IS BROOKHART AND HIS STAFF DOING!?
akronad replied to Lee Adams's topic in Akron Zips Football
We heard the same thing about the field house. It is best in the country and we will be able to recruit better thanever before. If that is the case, where are all of these stalwart recruits? Inquiring minds, want to know.
