  1. There will always be another good assistant coach from a quality program willing to take on a losing situation. That being said, I don't want to lose JD. but, as a question for argument, how many years do you give a coach to turn a program around? Lee Owens was not a bad coach, however, i know for fact, that he had problems with his players. JD is young and needs to continure learning and we MUST give him our support.BUT WHEN IS ENOUGH, ENOUGH!
  2. They just posted the letter of legal notice to be published in the BJ. Interviews are to be on FEb. 7., and the project is budgeted at $54, 625, 000.It looks as though groud will break some time in 2007.
  3. Unfortunatley, what the Athletic Dept. has stated is true. I have seen games since the hey days of Billy Turner. During the holiday season, it did not matter whether it was at Memorial Hall or the JAR, and it didn't matter who the opponent would be, the place(s) did not sell out. That being said, however, it does not excuse the University from shutting out the fans that mean the most. A better line of communication would have solved most of the problems and a truly better marketing strategy would have taken care of the rest.I can only hope that the Athltic Dept. gets their crap together and do a much better job of selling the sports teams.
  4. Below is the information I received from Frommers.comSince September 11, 2001, documentation rules for travelers have been getting more stringent; almost everywhere you go, it's becoming necessary to carry your passport or other accepted proof of citizenship. At this rate, it's probably going to be nearly impossible to travel without a passport soon, regardless of where you're going, so now is the time to get one. Although you may not think you need one if you only travel within North America, that's about to change. This year, the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 was amended, and now there are new requirements under the newly created Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative. There are two phases. For phase one, as of January 8, 2007, all persons, including United States citizens, who are entering or re-entering the U.S. and traveling by air between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central, and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda, will be required to present a valid passport, Air NEXUS card, or U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner document. The date was changed in August from January 1 in order to accommodate holiday travel, according to the office of the spokesman for Department of State (www.state.gov/r/pa/prs/ps/2006/70299.htm). Right now, public comment is being sought at the federal rulemaking portal (www.regulations.gov) until December 18 for phase two's initiative, which stipulates that as early as January 1, 2008, all persons traveling between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda by land or sea (including ferries) may be required to present a valid passport or other documents "as determined by Homeland Security." These government agencies are considering the implementation of a wallet-sized Passport Card (also referred to as the PASS card), a limited use passport card to be used for travel only by land or by sea (including ferries but not cruise ships) for travel between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, and Central and South America. According to a statement issued by the State Department, the PASS card was designed "to facilitate the frequent travel of those living in U.S. land border communities and those traveling on commercial maritime vessels." GOZIPPPSSSS!!!!!
  5. 3 weeks ago, I was about as pessimistic as anyone could be. Bowl game , yeah, sure, right. Now, if we win 1 or both of final games, we will have an ggod shot at a bowl game. Remember the fans that we took to Detroit last year? I guarantee you that the bowl committees remember and know that information. They want to get the most people to their game as possible to promote their city/region.That being said, the only question I have remaing, is are we going to Mobile, Detroit, Toronto or Birmingham.GO ZIPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  6. If there wereractually 7,000 bodies in the stands, I would be surprised. Don't be surprised if we make the the NCAA average attendance requirement at 15,001.

    J.D.

A shot in columbus!!!!!!!!! What are you, f*****g nuts or what????????? Even the must devout U of A fan should concede that we will not be able to compete with that team from down south. However, the following week, we should be able to come away with a victory against the hoosiers.
  8. Rumblings have been going on about wanting a new stadium since the early 70's. The proposed location is ideal. Finally, a stadium on campus. What a novel approach!Just remember that the rendering we saw was just pasted into the picture to show everyone that a stadium could fit into the location. They arecurrently working on more renderings and probably designs and models to present to the Trustees. Let's hope the trustees have enough of a vision to make it look like a true college stadium.I still hate Can't!!!!!!!!!1
  9. Passing thoughts 1. defense was very soilkd all evening2. offense still looked sloppy at times and it seemed as it they were not hitting on all cylinders.3.officials-very poor crew4. penalties-regardless of the incompetency of the officials 93 yards in penalties is way too much.5. kicking game-unless JD can get someone consistent of put the ball between the uprights, every game is going to be scary.6. the PD does send someone to cover some of the Zip games. Elton Alexander. My impressions from last night are a little better than 2 weeks ago, but until we stop committing the foolish penalties, get a consistent kicker and play better on offense, we will be lucky to have 7-5 record.
  10. I've seen both players from North and they are the real deal. Dawson doesn't even have to worry about a scholarship. He is involved in a program that guarantees his college tuition if even graduates form North with a 3.2 GPA or better. A benefactor in the community established the program several years ago to get more kids from North Hill to attend college. Nevertheless, I think both would fit into th Zips program and it never hurts to have local talent playing for you.Go Zips !!!!!!!!!
  11. Ballingirl, Although you hit the nail on the head with much of what you just posted. I take exception with the comment of the over 50 crowd. I have been a Zips fam all of my life. With the exceptions of my job and my chid's activities, my wife and I have attended more than our share of Zip games. This includes basketball, football & soccer. The only game I ever sat on my hands was the Can't game last November. TOOOOCOLD!!!!!!!!!!!There many ways to increase attendance. Most have been mentioned. Our ZipFest looks like doggy crap when you compare to what Can't had going for them.We need a new stadium. We need a new stadium when I was at Akron in the 70's. We are getting closer everyday. Most of the land has already been acquired by the University. The sooner the better.Just remember not all of us over 50's are stick in the muds.Go Zips
  12. Non-league scheduels are done 2-5 years in advance. I know in thecoming years we have Cincy, Indiana, Kentucky & Army on the schedules. So we should only be looking to fill one game the first couple of years (game #12) and 1-2 games for the following 2-3 years. Why the MAC is not a friendly to Akron is beyond, unless they want to see the the "Old Boy" network of Miami, Toledo, BG, OU and Can't get all of the glory. We need to stay the course this year and hopefully Mack R. gan get things going in a positive manner.
  13. As I stated after the Cant game, JD is nothing more than a .500 coach. I never could figure out how he was going to another school with that kind of record. Now we are 2-4 and 0-2 in the MAC. Can we get to a bowl, doubtful. Can we win the MAC East, very doubtful. We need to regroup like we did after Army. One thing I ahve thought about all week has ben our schedule for this season. And it became very evident that it really was a three edged sword. First, Mike Thomas didn't do us any favors by not scheduling any home non-league home games. North Texas was added by Mac Rhoads. Which is the second problem, the NCAA added the 12th game so late everyone was scrambling to come up with a viable opponent. Just think, if there was no 12th game, our first home game would not have been until October 21. And lastly, it is a well known fact that Akron is not considered one the favorite teams in the MAC and thus they put the screws to us with the league schedule.Even with all of that, it still does not excuse our poor performances this season.Hopefully we can right the ship.
  14. I just did some research on bowl eligibility. You need a record of 7-5 to be bowl eligible. However, if there are not enough 7-5 teams, they may select teams 6-6.
  15. Scott left to work in Raleigh, at a concert venue. He couldn't handle working with Mike Waddell. The new guy, Keith doesn't have an idea what's happening. It looks like he is overmatched for the position.Anyways, enough rating. We just need to get back on track and win games. If we go 5-2 the rest of the season, we become bowl qualified.Go Zips!!!!!
  16. How many years to we give JD? 5, 10? By most standards, 4 years is the barometer. How long do we want a .500 coach? He needs to start winning and be more consistent. Lose a game, win game, is not making a winning program. As far as posting goes, as long as the moderator(s) let me speak my mind, I shall!!!!!!!!!!!!!By the way, I'm not a Johnny-come-lately. I have a supporter and booster of Zip Athletics for over 25 years.
  17. PATHETIC is an understatement. Not only were we outplayed, we outcoached. Even though I am a JD proponent, look at his w/l record which is hovering around .500. If we are become a force in the MAC we need to win games, whether it is (was) Lee Owens, J.D. Brookhart or another coach. IMHO I would give JD another season (next), and if things don't get better, maybe we should be looking for someone else.
