No. 25 Buffalo clings to ranking heading to Akron Buffalo, which hung on in the rankings on Monday at No. 25, will play a pair of road games this week, the first being against Akron on Tuesday. Buffalo (20-3, 8-2 MAC) will also play at Toledo on Friday. The Bulls, following a 92-88 loss at Bowling Green on Feb. 1, had eight days to stew over that defeat and seemed on the verge of stewing over their first losing streak of the season when visiting Central Michigan took a 32-14 lead in the first half on Saturday. But with third-leading scorer and leading rebounder Nick Perkins sitting out the first half for a violation of team rules, the Bulls quickly restored order. Buffalo rallied to pull within five at halftime and then dominated Central Michigan in the second half to earn a 90-76 win as it heads for a more routine schedule in the coming days. "I thought we were really good (Saturday) after those first 12 minutes," Buffalo head coach Nate Oats after the Central Michigan win. "After that initial charge by them, we got back to playing that blue-collar brand of basketball that has won us a lot of games this year." Buffalo, which dropped two spots in this week's poll, is ranked for the 14th consecutive week. If there is one concern for the Bulls, it's the health of senior guard and leading scorer C.J. Massinburg, who is battling a shoulder injury. Massinburg was scoreless in the first half against Central Michigan, but rebounded in the second half to score 18 points. He is averaging 18.4 points this season. "It was definitely killing me," Massinburg told the Buffalo News. "When you know that you're a guy that will lay your whole body out there for the team, and nothing is going your way, it definitely hurt me. But I just tried to stay positive through it and encourage my teammates." Akron (14-9, 6-4) is in third place in the MAC East standings, two games behind Bowling Green and Buffalo. The Zips are playing their best basketball of the season, having won four of their last five games and coming off a 72-53 home win over Kent State last Friday. Coached by former Ohio University and Illinois coach John Groce, the Zips have renewed themselves thanks to an improved defense. The Zips enter leading the MAC in scoring defense at 62.0 points per game. "It's our guys," Groce said in the Akron Beacon Journal. "They've really bought into how we defend, the scheme that we play, how we do scouting. It takes great sacrifice to play really hard and play really together in that way for 40 minutes." Offensively, Akron is a balanced squad that has four players averaging in double-figures -- junior Daniel Utomi (13.9 points per game), sophomore Loren Cristian Jackson (13.4), senior Jimond Ivey (13.3) and junior Tyler Cheese (10.3). The game will be the first of two meetings in a span of two weeks between the Bulls and the Zips. The rematch will be held Feb. 26 at Buffalo. --Field Level Media

Akron shot 19% from behind arch, the philosophy of keep shooting until you hit,is not working with this group. No help to the ball on defense.Akron basketball and football will probably never be that competitive,at this point in time the way fans would like. The UofA should focus on more money on just soccer there the only sport that is consistently competitive.

He lost to PSU last night by 6 2018?
-
He was the coach for 13 years,No wins in 4 appearances.None of those games were ever even close,he got blown out of the gym in one appearance by a former A of U assistant coach??? In the CBI tournament he got blown out??? The The NIT made him travel to OSU and lost a game that he should have won that should have been at the JAR??? He is not a big game coach, he’s to high school, look a last night??? he almost always wins? I do think Dambrot, would make the A of U a mighty fine AD though.
-
Dambrot should have been let go after the Zips lost too Northwestern,in the NIT that team was good enough to advance.Always out coached in the big games & no player development he had LBJ’s highschool teammates at Akron, and they did nothing.
-
Yes NO development just look at Van Edwards 5 years and still can get 100 yards in most games MTB when healthy no development. The O-line keeps getting worse and worse Ulysees Gilbert, out tackeld by a walk on, special teams is not good its like groundhog day with this team and coaching staff most of the time.
-
Yep!The AD has some tough decisions next week
-
The offense showed up today, should the D coach be let go this week? This team has know personality, the play almost every game like it’s spring football.
-
Zips football is always a work in progress why?The players don’t ever seem to be prepared or understand what to do?MTB has been here 6 years and hasn’t got any better who is akron recutting?
-
The football team needs to play like they did against Northwestern the rest of the season. Calling all two deeps, please step up and win its in you, please stay focused! Also there are a lot of undisciplined MAC football players its just not UofA.
-
No he shouldn't get fired he needs way more time to develop this program, its just not that competitive. You must be very patient and demand that this program wins consistently. Also ask Terry where's the beef?
-
The zips weren’t picked to be any good even with a decent defense, this was mentioned at the beginning of the season. The OC has to keep the offense generic because the offense is real young and he has no o-line or running back. Dont be to upset because you have a good coaching staff who’s willing to develop remedial footballers.
-
Is the O-line sturdy enough for Alex, he might be on his back a lot.Kato would be a great receiver or wildcat player keep him on the field if he’s not the qb,I wounder what the coaching staff has taken into consideration.
-
The script letters, look high school, and are playing out, bold letters are better.the color scheme is finally right, a nice golden alternative uniform might be nice.
-
How do you change the mediocre or bottom feeder losing culture? I know some of the football players parents, and had a talk about the program, the first thing that was mentioned was the reject players form Florida, how they’re given scholarship instead of the players from around here just because, and how the staff looks at players around here meaning NE Ohio.Ted Ginn has a football factory and yet no one from his school, is on the team not one!
-
The sports publications predicted that Akron football, wouldn’t be good. why is everyone surprised or disappointed when they loose this was predicted.Look at the zips coach he looks and always sounds confused all of the time.To me it’s seems like all of the recruits are projects?&just not big enough. It will take Terry 4 more years to get where he wants to be,hold on fans. The uniforms have gotten better and the players graduate.

Kicking shouldn’t be an issue, why don’t they ask the soccer coach for some legs? Or at least some insight,Akron has some of the best kicking in college. Hey Mr.Soccer coach you gota minute we need some help over here?
