I wish people would take the time to actually learn what those arrests were for... Dre Kirkpatrick was arrested for marijuana possession less than a week after winning the National Championship - under almost identical circumstances that Janoris was arrested under - but he obviously (his agent) got a very good attorney, and the charges were dropped. No one even talks about it anymore -- and it just happened a few months ago. Janoris' first arrest was at a club in Gainesville - for standing up for a buddy/teammate of his. Yes, he threw a punch. Yes he got arrested. I believe he went through a pre-trial first offender type program - and it was removed (or something to that effect) from his record. Janoris had shoulder surgery, and was not able to be working out with the team, etc.... some buddies from Pahokee went up to Gainesville to "hang out" with him.. and yes, they were arrested for marijuana possession. If he hadn't been injured - and had been with his teammates in the structured environment, it probably wouldn't have happened. Janoris was originally going to declare for the 2011 draft as a Junior. Will Muschamp was hired - and for whatever reason, Janoris decided to stay. And then the 3rd arrest - as I said above - was almost exactly the same as Kirkpatrick's situation. He was a passenger in a teammate's car with 3 or so guys in it. They were pulled over, and a small bag of marijuana was found in the car. They were all arrested. Since Janoris had issues prior - it was April I believe - he and his family decided it was best to just pay the fine and move on. He could have stayed and fought it - but they were concerned that if the situation took too long to resolve, it would have been too late to play in 2011. The guy who owned/was driving the car eventually had the charges dropped against him. Yes - he was arrested three times. But when you look at the circumstances, you realize that they were all situations where a young man made a few stupid decisions. How many of us haven't made decisions when we were younger that we wish we hadn't? I'm not condoning his actions - but there are much worse things players have done, and gone on to be productive members of society. By all accounts - including our head coach - he is a good kid, who has learned his lesson. His talent is not a question. And the off the field issues never affected his on the field performance. I hope he gets his shot in the first round -- I think where he belongs. Would LOVE to see him in Cincy!

Ok -- not many things I don't know -- but what does STO stand for?? I'm assuming you're talking about a Coach's TV show, but not familiar with the initials... thanks!
-
I think the coaching staff and team have the burden of turning the team around first... Everyone covers a winner. Period.
-
He loves that saying.... I wonder who actually said it first... probably the Bear or somebody

Some were fun.. some were pretty distasteful... I just don't think you should ever play the Hitler card. Terry's would have really been funny if we had seen it back in January when they wrote it!

I just heard a little "good news" about the Dadgum t-shirts (I swear, I am making a federal case out of this -- not sure why!).. But Coach Bowden had t-shirts made for the players that they were given at the start of Spring Ball - and they've got "Akron Football" on the front, and the CORRECT "Fear the Dadgum Roo" logo on the back
-
LOL x 10..... I hadn't seen that blog before -- I thought it was actually pretty witty
-
I'll agree that maybe there was a large stock of the originals available... but that STILL doesn't explain the DADGUM EXCLAMATION POINT!
-
That's what it was SUPPOSED to be.... I'm furious, beside myself, in a tizzy, riled up... add any other terms that mean "p*ssed off" that you can think of!
-
I'm glad the decision was made to have the surgery -- from what I hear, the recovery time is actually quicker with surgery -- and the end result is better as well. Bummer that we won't see Zach play in the Spring Game -- but very excited about what I've heard about just his few practices at WR... The boy can catch the ball!
-
And by the way -- he was back in town last night, and back at work at 6am or so this morning (the article mentioned he'd be back in time for Thursday's practice).....
-
I will agree 100% that it is a GREAT combination of writer and subject And both seem to have a very serious commitment to the program -- which is even better

Didn't even notice the punctuation at first - because the font is SO WRONG. But you're right... the punctuation makes NO SENSE!!!! I am NOT a happy camper about this... I couldn't wait to get my shirt -- now I may have to make them myself -- properly! (without punctuation)

IF they are TRULY dual threats -- and there are not very many athletes out there - anywhere - that can run as well as they can throw - or vice versa... Coach Bowden's offense is not that type of offense. He's run different schemes over the years - but one thing has always been consistent... He wants a very smart QB -- one with a "high football IQ" - that understands and is a student of the game.. makes good, quick decisions; has poise under pressure, makes few mistakes, and makes accurate throws. Coach Bowden has had a few of his QBs become pretty dadgum good coaches (Jimbo Fisher, Dameyune Craig, Pat Nix). He wants a "coach" on the field - someone that will know exactly what Coach Bowden wants to see when he sends in the signals. That is a lot more important (to Coach Bowden's philosophy) than a running QB. He'd rather have a couple great RBs instead.

I heard that Alexander looked really good today. (Edited -- I guess I should have watched the video first... LOL)

Not sure why they didn't go with the CORRECT and PERFECT logo designed by AK Oldies...

I just re-read this, and my response, after reading about Patrick's decision to leave Akron. What I failed to mention the first time, was that the starting QB at SFA, whom Dalton played behind, Jeremy Moses, WON THE WALTER PAYTON AWARD IN 2010 (basically the FCS Heisman). And then there was a coaching change - and well, we all know how those coaching changes go. And --- seriously, "must have something on Bowden or enticing with cookies... etc.." ? I obviously quit reading the post the first time before I got to that part. Now I REALLY know that this poster is just a kid -- so I will give him a bit of a break... Don't know if anyone else has noticed -- but from the videos I've been seeing from practice (and the Fear the Dadgum Tuba) it looks like Coach is losing some weight!
-
She? Didn't know I had surgery . And let's be very clear - I do NOT work at/for Akron.
-
Ding Ding Ding Ding..... And regarding the question about "can't you be a dual threat QB and accurate, etc....."... Of course you can -- but in Coach Bowden's offense, it is not the JOB of the QB to RUN the ball. It's the QB's job to get the INTO the hands of the guys who can make plays. Very few QBs in the nation that can run a sub 4.5, evade tacklers, and take big hits.

TB even recruits for the marching band!!!
NewZipsFan replied to AKSportsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
Coach Bowden (Bobby) was always a HUGE supporter of the FSU Marching Chiefs. I believe that Ms. Ann helped to start the tradition of the horse and Chief Osceola running onto the field. I also read that Coach Bowden would throw his hat into the stands where the band was sitting after every away game. And the band sure loved him for that! -
Hmm.... enjoying themselves... having fun... coaching players... developing talent... good camaraderie....working hard...not panicking... Sounds like an awful coaching staff to me Would you rather hear the same crap we've been hearing from the past two years?
