  1. Need better offensive execution...ball at the 50 for the first drive...three and out? C'mon guys!
  2. Akron's strides are really the envy of Buffalo fans? Didn't they win 8 games last year and go to a Bowl??????
  3. This thread and the Bowling Green thread are pretty much ZP.O freak-outs about Bowden and the Zips.
  4. With Bowden as the head coach of Akron, and AD who aren't has trigger happy as a lot of the members here appear to be, Bowden will get us there. Mark my words. I won't put a time frame on it, other than that Bowden will be the best Akron coach D-I Akron football. Not only will he dig this program from the dredges of College football, but he'll make it a competitor and a regular winner. I'm tired of the freak-out sessions on this forum. There's very good reasons that this is likely to happen so long as ADs and people in power don't panic. This team is trending upwards. 2-3 more seasons (or less) we will be where we all want to be. I've said it about a million times: Bowden is here to stay...he will retire from here, and he wants to build something special at Akron. Nothing is more special than a program that has never won 8 games in one season, getting to 8+ and beyond. No, because it's standard coach speak. There's nothing to address. Trying to read too much into it yields things like the Pohl non-existent QB controversy.
  5. Even the Howard game didn't go as expected...because the offense couldn't do anything for almost two quarters, and couldn't run the ball. Being favored in games IS something new. When was the last time we were favored in three straight games? Technically favored in games going all the way back to the EMU game? The Zips are turning the corner.
  6. MVP: Treadwell Biggest Surprise: Robotham Biggest Disappointment: Big Dog and Evans Award Winners: Treadwell POY Season Results: MAC Tournament Champion/Finally get over the hump and win an NCAA tournament game.
  7. If the Zips win-out, they will squeak into a bowl game. On the MAC side it might help to get a little help from some of the other teams, dropping a couple of the final three.
  8. 100% of the Student body? No. A good portion of it? Yes. A couple of fraternity and sorrority people as well as the other students could, yes, go to the game regularly. But we're talking about 5% of the student population...at best. A lot of people here completely ignore just how many UA students commute to school/work on the weekends. If you and I were on campus at the same time, we'd most likely not be in the same circles. The circles I was around, the vast majority of them worked/commuted/other commitments during game time...and a good number of my friends were/are in sororities and fraternities. They worked during the day (on game days) and partied at night...thus eliminating the opportunity to go to games. Really we're talking the difference between 800~1000 students at games. Many on this forum keep throwing around the 30k student body, wondering why more can't be there, without actually understanding these students at all. When 24k of them are commuters, you're only talking realistically 6k. But I think the real way to turn around attendance is to get non-pathetic, engaging Alumni. Who make it something worth going to. My biggest complaint through college, and now, is the lack of Alumni involvement in making a sense of community. UA needs a stronger "community" within itself. Then don't make such a stupid comment about how all one needs to do is walk down power street to see that there's a lot of students who aren't studying/working on their education.
  9. Ignorance. Maybe 0.02% of the student body live on Power Street and the surrounding area. What a Great point.
  10. Zips will rebound after a tough loss and will win this one handedly and get back to .500. This will be the first in a 3-game winning streak to end the season.
  11. Dear god Zips fans are delusional. The product we have now is the best football product we've had in 5+ years, and NOW we're freaking out? What on earth is going to happen when we go 10-2 and win the MAC championship and get into high bowl game? I say that folks, because that's where Bowden is taking us with or without your support. I don't like losing either guys, but (I think it was Zipmesiter or Dr. Z) who snapped me back to reality after I vented during the Ohio game...don't put so much emotion on college athletics. (who ever that was, thanks for the reality check ) These boys are 18-22 years old for god sake! I'd bet the average age here is at least double that! Support the University through it's athletic program, or don't. Are we Zips fans now going the way of State Ohio University? Are we forgetting that this is about community and fellowship amongst each other? It's not just about winning, though winning is nice. We're still in the midst of the best season in nearly a decade of football. Stop the freaking doom-and-gloom.
  12. I had Buffalo circled as a loss at the beginning of the year, and Ohio circled as a win. I think these two will exchange spots. I still believe we will go 7-5.
  13. The Browns would be paying to use the facility, oh but that doesn't count as making money. But anyways: I'm pretty sure the Browns are going to go to Columbus so you're for some reason.
  14. Lee Adams +1. Students don't go to games because they're in college to get a degree. Those who want to be a part of the college spirit of going to every game etc...usually go to schools like State Ohio university. And this is not a bad thing. College is about, first and foremost, getting a degree, with as little debt as possible. There are a lot of students who really support UA, but aren't at the games. Why do you ask? Because they're no jocks. They have jobs so they can graduate with as little debt as possible, and they're busy doing other things at UA. This is not bad. If you were to meet me in my regular, everyday life, with the job I do, you'd probably never guess I was a die-hard football fan. But even when I (the die hard Zips fan and the die hard football fan) was in college and could go to games for free, I still missed games. I missed games for work. On the basketball side I sometimes missed games because I was so utterly exhausted after being on campus all day, and being in the lab for 3+ hours...I just wanted to get dinner and go to sleep. I'd listen on the radio or stream it online while I got ready for bed. All-in-all I think everyone needs to stop harping on the students. Try to understand them, try to see where there lives are. This is where AD's and Alumni fail. They try to impose a bias "what should be" on students they don't understand. We had the best student crowd at Infocision Stadium I've seen in a long time; and most were engaged and having fun (until we started losing). I'd like to see the tuition giveaway earlier in the season while the weather is better. More people show up for early season games as is, and more students would come out to it if it wasn't raining and cold. One game, early in the season, where we have all the right conditions, might create a special atmosphere that people want to return to. But what do I know...I'm just the recent Alum who suffered through 3-33, and have never seen anything special football wise.
  15. I'm going to be a context troll here, but context is everything. A large portion of the discussion on his topic was if the Zips ground staff would be able to get the field ready for the soccer season, which would give several weeks to a month of preparation time to do so. The quotes taken from the story posted above are out of context of what this conversation was about (thus not really supporting the point you guys are trying to make). Here's a couple of reasons why: 1. It was already discussed that the time frame between the Browns camp and Zips soccer starting play would be several weeks to a Month, the complaints and quotes in the story are talking about days and a time frame less than a week. 2. There's a huge difference between getting a field of grass repaired in October/November than in June/July/August. 3. Those in charge of Wembley stadium get it. Having a stadium just sit unused because you've got to stroke the ego of someone is ludacris. Wembley stadium is also being used for Rugby matches (more so than football games), amongst other activities (according to your own link). They make $$$$$$$ off of hosting these games instead of losing $$$ because a field is sitting there unused. 4. Wembley officials understand that stadiums exist to make money so well that they know that with the revenue generated from hosting other games, a portion can easily be used to repair the field. 5. I know many people don't give a damn about logic/facts but don't cherry-pick information to support your side, it makes you look cynical. 6. This story read more like a bunch of people with egos complaining, more than it did about what works and what doesn't work.
  16. You could tell. Hopefully they had a good time.
  17. I will also put this out there: For the Record, I still think the Zips will go 7-5. I'm disappointed in this loss. I thought Pohl and the offense could play better, but I at the begining of the year I didn't think that they'd win this one against the Falcons. On to Buffalo, time to get Bowl Eligible!
  18. I don't think the staff is going to take that away, supposedly by the conspiracy contention here that was the reason they put Woodson in over Pohl. Didn't Pohl play on an injured ankle all of last season? That would be a very good reason why they "took the run away" from him. Bowden also doesn't discuss injuries (as he said in the pre and post game shows of this week and last week) so how do we really know Pohl ever fully recovered from those injuries. Pohl Also doesn't have the presence of mind, or (IMO) the speed to be a scrambling QB. He plants his feet and sometimes scrambles out of the tackle. He usually gets sacked or runs (not very fast) to the sidelines. I don't seem him as a running threat at all.
  19. Completely agree. That play absolutely killed us. Knapke's recievers were dropping the ball all night too, but he managed to throw zero interceptions. The offense has been the liability as to why we lose games the past two years. The defense is what has willed us to those victories, not the "outstanding" play of our QB. Pohl locks into unopened receivers and guns it to them. Pohl looked much better than Woodson, I'll give you that, but he's not the phenomenal QB you make him out to be. We need a QB who can will the offense to win games, not throw into coverage at critical points of the game.
  20. Between Chapman, Woodson, Kincade and (future hopefully still) Harrison, I think we'll find "that" guy.
  21. MTB was out with a knee injury. But it's not like MTB would do any better. He drops the ball when it hits his hands on a sunny day.
  22. The two INTs he threw were unacceptable. Second one, where he threw to an unopened reciever...into the wind...was bad one. Turning the Ball over in the Red Zone is also absolutely unacceptable. Take charge at the end of the first half and throw the ball to a streaking receiver. Pohl is a field lieutenant, instead of a general.
  23. What an absolute Joke. Glad I went to this one.
  24. You don't even need an offensive play with 5 seconds left. Snap the ball, and throw it to any receiver streaking towards the endzone.
