  1. Pohl was there and dressed for the game. But according to Bowden, he was cleared to play Thursday of this week.
  2. I'm disappointed yes. But I'm not giving up on Bowden, or this team, or this season. Time to take a step back folks. Did anyone really expect us to be 4-4 at this point of the season? I hate losing. I'm really not happy that we lost. But reality check ourselves. I followed coach's advice and pulled out my folder of games that I expected to win/lose, and a win total. My sheet has the zips 7-5. The only game I had going our way (that hasn't) was Ohio. I thought at the beginning of the year (before ay of the games were played( that we'd loseto ball state and win against Ohio. I also had us losing to Buffalo, which looks more winnable today than it did at the beginning of the year. Everyone here will feel pretty stupid when the Zips beat Bowling Geen next week, controlling their destiny in the MAC. We have 4 games left. Lets not fall apart as a fan base. We're starting to sound like State Ohio fans. We're Zips fans...we're better than this!
  3. BuckZip I'm usually the doom-and-gloom person. But not today. We're better off with Bowden than any other shmuck. Pohl will be back next week. Bowden will Get us to a Bowl THIS year. MAC-Championship is out of reach I believe.
  4. ^It wouldn't matter if it's attractive to the committees or not. The MAC has what 5 tie-in games. Our goal should be to be in the top 5 of the conference, we'd be guaranteed a bowl. If we win 3-4 that will happen.
  5. I was getting really excited about the BGSU game...now, But folks, we need to regroup. I found myself driving home from dinner (not knowing the outcome of the game, finding out by listening to the radio) saying we're not going to get into a Bowl and go 6-6. This team still has a 7-5 season in it. Buffalo, UMass and Can't are all winnable games. So is BGSU.
  6. NIU is in a fight for it's life against EMU. WMU is pole driving Ohio, and UMass is about to over throw Toledo? The MAC is wide open this year...
  7. If Justin March is in the process of tackling the QB when he throws the ball, it is a late hit?
  8. Zips offense looks sharp today!
  9. Tommy Woodson gets the start. Opening drive TD.
  10. Great post G-mann. Though I believe after BGSU, this team can beat any of the remaining teams. This game is crucial.
  11. I don't agree. You have zero facts to back up your position. You're basing your assessment of Bowden's handling of the QB situation on the report from someone on this board who said "he was cleared before the game on saturday" despite Bowden saying otherwise. What lost the game last week was not the QB situation, but the play calling. That game was winnable with Woodson or Pohl. The game this Saturday is winnable with Pohl, Woodson or (dare I say it) Hirschman.
  12. That's because it is a building process at Akron. If you don't think we're building something, than I'm not sure what you've been watching under Bowden. Action speaks louder than words, and evidence has shown both in talent that has been brought it and W's that Bowden IS building something. There is light at the end of the "building" tunnel, and his name is Terry Bowden. I don't how we can be saying Bowden doesn't have any set goals this season: the tagline he's sold his players is TNT (Today Not Tomorrow). Bowden is also realistic. You don't go from 0-8 to 8-0, worst to best in the conference in one year. We can't get ahead of ourselves.
  13. A quarterback who didn't have a week to prepare, and who had suffered a hard hit in the previous game. Zips fans, we should not doubting Bowden. He's the man, and he's ours.
  14. Love seeing kids from my Alma Mater play for my other Alma Mater! Go Zips and...well Go Bees too!
  15. Alright everyone. Make sure to keep up the pressure, Zippy is in 4th place with a 6-2 record. This we she's facing Minnesota's Goldy the Gopher. We're currently up 92%...We need to keep the wins coming so she can get a good seed in the final tournament. Crunch time will be if we have to face Auburn's Aubie (who we have yet to face week-to-week), UCLA's Joe Bruin or South Carolina's Cocky (both of which beat us). We need to pull out all the stops next week because Zippy faces State Ohio University's Mascot. Week 11 though is huge (two weeks from now) because we face that Auburn mascot. C'mon Zips nation, lets make the repeat happen!
  16. The point is: You either make it so people want to come. Or you keep them away. Take your pick. I love the Zips, but are we really THAT great to push people away? C'mon folks! Everyone must really love that empty stadium.
  17. Alcohol wasn't half price, only sushi.
  18. Zips will beat Ball State and Bowling Green with Pohl at the helm. All doubters (including myself) will be silenced as Pohl's fearless leadership rallies the Zips after the Bobkittens defeat last week. Akron 27 Ball St 17
  19. Isn't it equally bad business to have over half of your product go unsold/unused? Since we seem to be fond of anecdotes, heres my own experience: I used to work at a restaurant for 5 years, while I was in college (so I could pay for it). One of the worst nights to work was a Tuesday/Wednesday night. It was horrible because almost no-one wants to eat fancy restaurant Tuesday/Wednesday nights. Before I started working there the management came up with "Half-Price Sushi" night on Tuesday, with all sushi (except rare types) being half price. It became an instant hit, and the place was packed from 4-9 every single Tuesday for nearly 6 years. Everyone in the community ranted and raved about it, and it became an event in upon itself. The restaurant didn't lose money because you had to buy a drink for half-price (and usually people didn't just get sushi). It was absolutely brilliant marketing...until the morons stepped in. A few years after I left, they got rid of it (because the owner had the bright idea that everyone loves sushi so much that they'll continue to get it regardless if it was half-price or not). After that decision Tuesdays became dead. After a couple of other bone headed decisions, the owner is looking to sell that particular restaurant. Note: The prices did raise periodically over that time period (this effecting the half-price price) but people still showed up at the same levels. Were there people who only came to half-price sushi night and never a regular night? Yes. Were there people who went there on half price sushi nights AND other nights? Yes. Were there people who stopped coming to the restaurant all together because they got rid of half-price sushi night? OVERWHELMING YES! The restaurant dropped nearly $3000 sales a week for that decision. For the sake of arguement I say $5 (obviously they'd have to put some effort into finding out what would make people want to come, and market a package around that) and by all means it wouldn't apply to every game...but you can't miss out on butts in seats. It'll take work on behalf of the people in the AD...but that's their job. Which is why I said a one game event. Not every game. But it makes ZERO sense of having the vast majority of seats sit unsold. That makes zero sense by any stretch of the mind.
  20. Because people currently understand the "value" of an Akron Zips football game, so much so that they are flocking to Infocision stadium by the 9,100s. Honestly I could care less about attendance. I used to get upset about it, now I just go and enjoy myself. If loser Akronites don't want to attend fun games and watch a team win, than that's their problem. I do think, however, it's ridiculous to be throwing around the contention that prices can't be lowered for a ONE game special to try and attract fans, families etc.
  21. GP1, that I can agree with.
  22. So our product is worth $25 a ticket? That must be why our stadium is full. People are sure showing up to the games now on weekends! With good ol' value of $25 a pop! I'm a season ticket holder. I wouldn't be that upset about it. I'd rather have a full stadium than sit starring at a bunch of empty seats. I buy season tickets because I support the Zips and the school I graduated from. (It also helps that with one price I get all the tickets to all the sports teams). Bottom line: The Athletic department should be making whatever package it can that will get people into the stadium. Maybe not $5 tickets, but something worth while for young families...young people...old people...the mix of people who live in the area. Because right now, it's not a value enough to attract people. I really do think that the complaining of season ticket holders is being overestimated. And if it is, then have fun sitting in an empty stadium season ticket holders! $5 tickets for one game, to get people in the stadium isn't something to complain about. Considering the most basic season ticket holder package (with none of the "free stuff") amounts to $12.5 a game (general admission season tickets are $75 a season). I can see why a young family wouldn't want $75 season tickets (despite how good of a buy it is) because (for a family of 4) that's $300 up front. $5 tickets get the whole family in for $20, then you can spend $20-$30 on concessions for everyone. What a wonderful family outing.
