@Skip-Zip Most of them even went to Can't State...so that's DOUBLE the embarrassment!
-
Mark my words: The Cleveland Browns will not pick a QB with No. 4 overall. That franchise is about to take flight again, despite the seeming continuous circus that surrounds it. And if it doesn't...well at least the Zips are improving!
-
Bortles. Bortles, Bortles, Bortles. I don't think he's a guy you can plug in immidiately, but I think he's got all the right stuff and the fundamentals to work with. I don't know why, but I absolutely don't like Johnny Manziel. Something with him just doesn't sit right with me, I don't think he'll be able to handle NFL defenses. I can be proven wrong of course, but I just don't see him succeeding in the NFL. If the Browns were to pick him, I feel like they'd be reliving the Colt McCoy years, just part II.

Akron vs Ken+, (hopefully) home season finale.
Balsy replied to RowdyZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Down in the lower bowl there was very vocal parents...the students up above were relatively quite. Mostly because they arrived at the game late, and by the time they go there, Akron was running away with it. -
@Dave +1. I tried to find that video again now I'm saving it just so I have it.

Golden Flashes vs. Ol' Gold And Blue, Zippers win again and again Indeed, those that cannot read cannot win. Prepare yourselves, come one come all, Senior night Win is in our sights!

I think it's nice to have fans of other teams comment on our board...so don't take this the wrong way ubxcretired...but what did you expect? You "came here to have a thoughtful conversation" about POY. I've read one thoughtful comment from you, the rest have been close to a troll response. GoZips does bring up a good point, and happens to be privy to sourced information that most are not. Don't just blindly support players from your team without giving it thought. Don't just dismiss good points by saying "not even worth my time" because than...it's no longer a meaningful dialogue about POY, but just a troll being a troll. Are you seriously suggesting McCrea doesn't have a history of somewhat dirty history? POY don't play dirty IMO.
-
@ubxcretired That we can both agree on. MAC officiating is HORRIBLE.
-
McCrea leans into the contact. sorry no way to spin it, it's a dirty hit. We don't have to make much of a leap at all...it's pretty clear; physics.
-
Now...with getting students out to the game...The Zips better blow out Can't state in a thrilling, exciting game.
-
Touche Athletic department, touche... Clearly the Athletic department has been following us right?
-
Yeah! Zippy masks or something...to be ridiculous...
-
FINALLY our logo and colors. Love it Dr. Z!
-
For those who are the age of 21, sure. I actually like the idea you gave. For the new fans, the freshman...I don't think it will work. However they did do "Zippy's Wallet" for the game...which gave students discounts on concessions as well as free food. It's heading in the right direction... I think? Couldn't agree more. If only he would, that would be fantastic. One class that I had on a Friday evening during football season, the prof would wear State Ohio shirt every day. A group of guys and I decided that we would wear over-the-top, all-out Akron Zips gear from head-to-toe.
-
Speaking of Melo...he's been semi-stepping it up lately. So has Evans. Where were they all season??
-
I really, really, really, really like how the Zips played today. They played the style of basketball we all knew they are capable of playing.
-
I was saying they are the same...better handouts = more students. The die-hards are already there. Give something to entice the non-diehards to start getting involved.
-
I don't think you understand what I'm trying to get out GP1. Foster an atmosphere that makes you feels as if you (as a student) are connected with it, and that there is a sense of community. Bobbleheads IMO = dumb. Unless it's Zippy. The Flag they're doing for the Season ticket holders on the other hand is a good change...now do something similar for your freaking students. In fact I was at the bookstore a couple of weeks ago to buy a gift for someone and I heard two students talking about how they wish there was a cool Akron flag they could buy...how about we hand a cool one out to students so they can display their Akron pride OUTSIDE of the game? You gotta get students to buy into the atmosphere, and make it feel legitimate instead of making it feel "second rate". They certain made a few changes this season that make the overall experience better and seem more legitimate...but from the nose bleed student section it still has the feeling of second-rate. Just saying. Also tell your freaking professors to wear Akron stuff, not OSU crap.

WBB has really stepped it up over the past couple of years! I went to the game on Sunday, and I actually find the Lady Zips to be more fun to watch then the men. I know, that might seem like a sacrilege but when the Lady Zips are down, I don't feel nervous. Every time the Zip are I am. Fast paced game, lots of offense, really fun basketball to watch! Now...if only we can get them both to win the MACT...how exciting would that be!?
-
Yes, we do. What I'm saying though is that those "giveaways" should be worth while. Only about 1000-2000 students would probably be allowed per game...and the giveaways would be to the first 200-500. They collect tuition fees that go to athletics from about 23,000 students. Make the giveaways worth showing up for, and generate buzz for it. I absolutely 100% agree with this, and wonder myself.
-
Considering we payed through our tuition (regardless if we're at the game or not) to support athletics, there should be a free giveaway near every game. At least something good, not the crap they always handout. Since I was there we NEVER had "Beat Can't" rally towels...whenever I went to Can't for the Akron-Can't Game, they ALWAYS had them. Simple, relatively cheap...students actually like them. Better seats is a must IMO. I always hated the current student section (which switched three times I was there) because you can never see the scoreboards. At the very least put up a small unabstructed score-board in that section that can be seen by the fans in that section.

Though I expect us to lose against Pitt and Penn State, I can also see good games as well as a chance to pull the upset. i agree with UA1987, Marshall looks like a ULL matchup, and I like our chances in taht type of game.

Thanks for posting that Dave, I remember reading it a couple of weeks ago. I think it hits it right on those nose. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one in my generation (the one referred to in the story) gung-ho about going to games. If there's a home game, or even away game I can make it too I want to go. But most of my peers are not like this is at all. They seem to view it more as an obligation to go.
