  1. I'm not that skeptical (which may be a defense mechanism!), but I am definitely in "show me" mode.
  2. He'll have to earn it. He's certainly proven himself as being good at that. That would make him an Indiana Mad Ant. They are also based in Indianapolis.
  3. Just the reaction I'd expect from that wonderful humble kid. Time to start planning our Indy road trip for Cavs at Pacers.
  4. He has a couple of solid bigs in Siakam and Turner to learn under also.
  5. Ummm, no give backs or passing on (or I'll never get rid of the damn thing).
  6. The NBA will figure out a way to turn the 2nd round into a 4 hour snoozefest.
  7. In the intense competition for the highly valued Matthew Wilson bobblehead, we had the following picks: clarkgriswold- 47 IlliniZip- 30 blueandgold- 29* zipsrule- 41 tpsjugglerdude- 35 (will get the top half of the bobblehead) ClevelandZip- 20* gozips19- 35 (will get the bottom half of the bobblehead) kreed5120- 51 ZipsFan31- 39 mes107- 27* LetsGoZips94- 30 Ham25* * Already eliminated
  8. Watching that last night took me back to that awful draft year that the Cavs took Anthony Bennett with the first pick. What an unspectacular draft pool. I remember the good old days when guys got drafted for talent as opposed to potential.
  9. We're expecting a pretty high "batting average" from a guy that's had the best basketball program in the MAC since he settled in at Akron. Not very recruiting class brings an LCJ or X. In a couple of years we'll be back to lamenting the absence of a big like Enrique.
  10. Nope, whoever is closest with ties determined by who bribes Clarky the most.
  11. Looks like Rob Fulford's replacement has been hired- https://gozips.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/mike-allen/1169
  12. So, let's have a little contest as to where Enrique will be picked, by the number of the pick. The closest wins a Matthew Wilson bobblehead. I'm going with 47, though he deserves higher.
  13. I don't see Scott as a failure. He contributed well as the season wound down. Also, every coach misses on recruits. Akron has benefited from what some may consider "misses" by coaches at bigger schools.
  14. I am not good at copying an email, but there's an Akron Basketball Reunion and Reception at the Jean Hower Taber Student Union, on Saturday, July 27th. Doors open at 6:00 with dinner and program at 7:15. Register through the athletic department. $100 a ticket.
  15. John's dad, Larry Groce, has passed away after a battle with cancer. Prayers for the Groce family. I'm glad he was able to see the Zips run to the tournament.
  16. More positive press for Enrique- https://sports.yahoo.com/2024-nba-draft-big-board-ranking-the-top-40-players-142413978.html
  17. Kaulig...Wentz...NWAkron...kreed5120...Captain Kangaroo...Let'sGoZips94...Blue & Gold...all the high rollers.
  18. Amen, between that and his kid being on the team we have reason to be encouraged.
  19. For those who are curious, a quote from the site- Established in 2023, the Summit Circle recognizes those that make a financial investment of $25,000 or more, in addition to their ticket donations, to Akron Athletics. Investors in the Summit Circle make multi-year pledges that are crucial to the long-term financial success of our athletics program. Kudos to the Groces for doing this. This is something every coach who makes big money from the school should do. I promise to be a Summit Circle member when the university pays me $650K.
  20. I'm thinking this article will not be well-received by ZipsNation. LOL. https://sports.yahoo.com/case-end-college-football-123000337.html
  21. I guess it's the P4 NIL world. None of it happens...the deal...the lawsuit...etc... without NIL.
  22. The NIL world has again shown it's ugly side, albeit in another sport (football), with Jaden Rashada's lawsuit against Florida coach Billy Napier and a booster over his NIL deal that fell apart.
  23. Enrique's best shot is to show he can be multi-dimensional. He's already shown he can defend and rebound against larger post players and can score in the post. An outside shot will only help his odds of being picked in the second round or getting a viable UFA contract. With any luck that gives him a chance at the end of the bench or a two way contract and he can work his way up from there.
