2020-2021 Akron Zips Basketball- Looking Forward

Nice job of summing that all up. I could see Trimble in the starting five with Tribble coming off of the bench but playing big minutes at both guard spots. We could see some three guard lineups with LCJ, Tribble and Trimble (this Tribble/Trimble thing is going to make us nuts. Poor Steve French). I see Reece more as the center as he'll play closer to the basket while Currie can move outside and shoot. -

I suspect that's more "honorary" than anything, not unlike last year. -

Maybe they figure they could get all of their teams in and would benefit from some home tournament games given how it would have to be structured. -

Sounds like our Canadian friends may be down a player this season as one of their players stabbed a Canisius player during a pickup game. Nice. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/29863867/buffalo-basketball-player-malik-zachery-charged-stabbing-canisius-player-scrimmage -
Nobody is pretending it won't have an impact. It's going to have an impact in every aspect of American life for a while. Many of us just don't enjoy interjecting political debate into the discussion.

There's a thread for COVID discussions-

I get that, but the JAR has been much more crowded in the good years than the bad. I've been there the last 15 years and when Dambrot's teams were at their peak, the place was much more full than the first two years of struggle under Groce. Last year, those crowds started coming back with the success of the team.

So a Tuesday night game in the dead of winter on ESPN12 doesn't help attendance?

Play good football in part with local kids and charge a reasonable price and there will be butts in the seats. They also need to realize that a youth team taking up seats at $5 a pop is better than an empty seat.

Bendy cheerleaders! Gotcha! ?

I think it's a sign of what the article above suggests, that the regionals are losing student while the nationals are growing. If UA costs more than OSU or Purdue is less than Indiana Fort Wayne and you can get in to either, most kids will head to the big name school.

Well....a poll of the Akron chapter of the American Association of University Professors found that they believe the university has not been transparent about its finances and that the administration should make cuts to athletics and administrative salaries before cuts to academics. Shocker. https://www.cleveland.com/education/2020/08/university-of-akron-faculty-union-survey-shows-concerns-about-financial-transparency-decision-making.html In similar news, a survey of Catholic priests determined that they were anti-abortion while a survey of bears found that the actually do $h!+ in the woods.

Interesting as they have been broadcasting PCCC recently. Movin' on up (for 640)!

I came across this article yesterday about OU and the struggles faced by midwestern regional universities. In the midst of the COVID mess, I have looked at the college basketball season as something positive on the horizon to look to after the crisis passes. Here's hoping. We may be looking at a shortened and/or delayed season and the possibility of conference only play (weren't we just saying that about football?) Here's an interesting ESPN piece with some interesting insights- https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/29647337/can-college-basketball-avoid-repeat-college-football-calamity
