  1. I only got to watch 6 or 7 minutes. From what I saw, they are definitely still in early season mode, where they usually are in mid-November when playing the Carolina directionals and Tennessee regionals. Figuring things out, ironing out lineup and defensive rotations, feeling each other out. Lots of new faces that will take time to gel. St. Bonaventure is a really good team and will be one of the top teams in the A10. They are better than any MAC team the Zips will see. Pleasantly surprised by Freeman. Marshall is much more of a player, and a different type of player, than I anticipated. I could see him as the starting 4 when things settle out. Sure wish we knew what was up with Currie. Oh, and we're all wrong. The Zips website currently has them beating St. B 81-74 and the Zips at 2-0. I think Groce walked into the post-game presser and told everyone the Zips had won and that anything to the contrary was fake news and fraud.
  2. Let's go Zips!
  3. I once heard an old-timer say that Dennison's biggest sin was taking D2 football with him.
  4. Your post struck a good chord with me in that you are one of the few on here to ackowledge that one can be critical of Arth and Bowden at the same time. Since Bowden's departure people want to characterize everyone on here as Pro-Bowden/Anti-Arth or Pro-Arth/Anti-Bowden. I for one was anti-Bowden and my jury is still out on Arth, and I am critical of some of the things I have seen. At one win in two years, the jury is definitely leaning towards convicting Arth but it is still out.
  5. Hey, you have to be a real badass to pull that off!
  6. I guess the trick in being a Zips football fan is intellectually distinguishing between hopes and expectations. In reality, given the odd nature of 2020 and what they had coming in, expectations should have been pretty low. As far as hopes, I hoped they'd be competitive in most of the game and they fell short there. I was not troubled by the Buffalo loss. Buffalo killed everyone. The Zips weren't going to be the team to avoid that misery. Looking back, they were competitive for much of the OU game, half of the PCCC game and beat BG.
  7. Curious to see the rotations Tuesday against a good opponent. Groce usually has a number of less competitive games to test rotations and combinations. Here, there's no such luxury. Very interested to see or hear what's up with Currie. 4 garbage minutes against Cedarville. Recovering from sickness? Attitude adjustment by the coaches? Not yet up to speed? Hopefully, Tuesday will bring some answers.
  8. Is there a less intimidating name than the "Bonnies"?
  9. UA is never going to pay more than one football head coach at a time ever again so settle in and hope for the best. If you think Arth will continue to be a failure mark the end of his contract on your calendar now because that's the earliest chance you'll have to get rid of him. I'm so happy basketball season is here and football season is over so that I don't have to read the same arguments on here every week.
  10. Fresh off of an opening game win against Cedarville, the Zips head to Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse this Tuesday at 2:00 face the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure. While we all like to complain about the OOC schedule, this is a very solid OOC opponent. The Bonnies are one of the very few teams in the NCAA to not yet play a game. The Zips were one of less than 30 teams without a game played going into Cedarville. The Bonnies opener on 12/12 against St. Francis has been cancelled. The Bonnies were 19-12 last year, playing in the A10, and finished 5th in the conference. They return their entire starting 5 and four of their top 5 scorers. There are no seniors on the team. The Bonnies are led by All-Conference guard Kyle Lofton who led St. Bonaventure in scoring last season with a 14.1 point average in over 38 minutes of action a game. He is a good three point shooter at 34% and his assist numbers were the best in the A-10 at 6.0 assists per game. Here's a really solid preview of the Bonnies- https://bustingbrackets.com/2020/11/20/st-bonaventure-basketball-2020-21-season-preview-for-the-bonnies/
  11. He just told me that "this is a good division 2 team." He then reminded us they're missing 4 of their starters. Ugh.
  12. No Currie or Clarke. I am going to make a medical assumption on those!
  13. Don't know. Just put in 99.7 Canton in I-Heart and it came up.
  14. His inflection makes me nuts.
  15. 9 Zips in early. The first 5, Trimble, Dawson, Marshall and Freeman. Cedarvile shorthanded due to Covid. Missing 4 returning starters.
  16. That station is on IHeart. Sounds like the Zips are going to be less reliant on the 3 this year. LOL. Also sounds like Marshall has more of an outside shot than I anticipated.
  17. Starters: Dailey Ali Reece Tribble LCJ
  18. Damn I wish we could watch this. Some random thoughts: - I think Tribble will be a combo guard, playing the point behind LCJ and SG with Trimble, getting lots of minutes. - We may see a big jump from Dawson this year. Last year, he an Ali both looked like young foals still figuring out how their bodies worked. This year we see a jump in skills and confidence. - They're deeper than they've been in years. Wynn would only add to this. There are going to be some talented players doing a lot of sitting. - Interested to see how the players interact. Hard to beat last year's squad for comradery and tam spirit. Here's hoping this team is its equal. - I think Dailey will be a major factor in this team's success. I think he takes on Banks role as a defensive stopper and some of X's offense. - I'm hoping another year on Cam Reece brings a maturity that allows him to maintain his intensity while doing a better job of avoiding fouls. - I see Marshall as a younger Reece. High motor willing to do the dirty work.
  19. Apparently, no one who proofreads should attend Cedarville.
  20. Wow, one of fewer than 30 teams to not play a game yet. Here's hoping Wynn gets the thumbs up from the NCAA. He could be a huge help.
  21. My hopes for the game: 1. No injuries 2. Smart disciplined play 3. Players learn from the game where the team needs to be to be at the top of the MAC 4. Something to build on going into the off-season I don't have expectations of this being a good game. Even of they get hammered, they can take some good from it. What I do not want to see is trouble getting out the huddle, players lining up incorrectly, undisciplined penalties and unforced errors. Avoid those and get out talented I can live with that. Do those and get outcoached and out-efforted and you undo much of last week's growth.
  22. It means a lot. Your truly, 1985
  23. He'll be 65 in February. Not a lot of programs looking to hire a coach eligible for Social Security. Everybody wants a young up and comer.
  24. Saturday at 2. https://gozips.com/sports/mens-basketball/schedule
  25. At long last our beloved Zip cagers open the 2020-2021 season this Saturday against the might Yellow Jackets of Cedarville University. The Yellow Jackets were 18-11 last year and compete in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference. While clearly a tune-up game, it will be nice to see the Zips in action and get a sense of what we have in the new faces.
