  1. Game is at 5 p.m. Another odd one.
  2. The Zips head off to Kalamazoo Saturday to face WMU @ 5pm. May we have a moment of silence in honor of Steve Hawkins please? The Hawkins-less Broncos are 2-8, having wins over CMU and Adrian (yo Adrian!). Their top 2 leading scorers from last season, Michael Flowers and Brandon Johnson, bailed on WMU in the off-season after Hawkins was shown the door. 6’0” sophomore guard B.Artis White leads the Broncos with 14.8 ppg. 6’9” senior forward Greg Lee leads rebounding at 7.4 rpg while scoring 9.7 ppg.
  3. That Lane kid is a load. 205 pounds on their roster. Ummmm, no.
  4. I wonder what ever happened to the plan to put a bunch of fan submitted photos on a banner and put it behind the bench.
  5. ...and some more time for Wynn.
  6. Not so sound the alarm too early, but they're letting another lousy team stick around.
  7. I wish Trimble could shoot.
  8. You're doing better. You're only a couple of days behind!
  9. Good point. Wynn is 6'6" however (not that he's ready). My preference would be to stick with Dailey for now.
  10. You're replacing a wing with a post guy in that scenario which messes up spacing, etc. I had hoped Dailey was coming around there with a couple of better games and then he disappeared. If I were to take him out of the lineup, I'd probably look to move Tribble, Clarke or Wynn into the lineup.
  11. I'd not heard it was a money issue. I'd heard he was in line to get it then got back doored by a wealthy alum and backroom politics.
  12. Since nobody has said it and it seems like an obligatory response every time this comes up- Tim Tyrrell.
  13. My immediate thought was Jimmy Haslam and Tennessee. Yikes! LOL. I don't have a problem with the idea, that's just the situation that came to mind.
  14. GT's latest- https://www.beaconjournal.com/story/sports/college/zips/2021/01/20/university-akron-mens-basketball-team-begins-develop-chemistry/4235205001/
  15. To answer an earlier question, I would prefer a young up and comer. If Arth leaves, my prediction is that the administration ties the hands of the AD by severely limiting the budget available for the hire. As such, they'll promote some unknown from within or get somebody willing to be underpaid for a chance (or second chance). I said it on another thread, I could see this going like WMU's basketball hire last year when they canned Hawkins and hired an unknown on staff assistant at a bargain basement rate. At that point, you just hope they found the needle in the haystack.
  16. I am okay with dark as long as it doesn't transition onto the floor, like EMU.
  17. Amen man. Drives me nuts how many of the MAC arenas make it seem like they're playing in a cave.
  18. It may well have been an exposure thing. Heck, I've never heard of the Lake Effect Conference or many of its members (Willoughby Andrews Osborne Academy, Elyria First Baptist Christian, Austinburg Grand River, Chagrin Falls Geauga, North Olmsted HEARTS for Jesus Christ, Cleveland Horizon Science, North Ridgeville Lake Ridge Academy, Sagamore Hills Lawrence and Cleveland St. Martin De Porres). As a contrast, K-lac as a 7 footer wasn't All-Conference first or second team as I recall and he was recruited. He's now playing 10 minutes and scoring 2 points a game at Walsh.
  19. To be fair, I believe akronzips71 wondered if Freeman could become a contributor as a big man for the Zips after seeing his size on the bench and his limited minutes. I, on the other hand, thought he would be nice company for Scott Walter at the end of the bench, taking Marquelle McIntyre's spot. I don't think even Freeman's mom would have seen what he has become. I remember the video of him form the Akron Canton Pro Am League. He was dominating 6 foot tall kids from the suburbs. It looked like a CYO game where one kid's testosterone came in a year early.
  20. You're mixing up Keno with Geno!
  21. It has become apparent in recent games though that the league has figured out that Tribble has no outside shot. They are all sagging off of him.
  22. However, they do know where Dylan Frye is seated.
  23. The Zips face 6-8 CMU at the JAR at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. CMU is led by 6'5" senior guard Travon Broadway Jr. at 16.8 ppg. They are 2-5 in the MAC with two wins over Eastern Michigan and losses to BG (twice), Western, PCCC and Toledo. I'll try to get some more info on the Chippewas if and when I get a chance.
  24. Now stop them from making a run. No letting them back in!
  25. Currie with some ML Carr quality towel waving. It's Carr-esque.
