  1. I was all for them canning Bowden, as much for off the field stuff not appropriate for discussion here, as on the field stuff. I was also of the opinion that we needed to be patient with the rebuild of the program. My patience is waning. I don't expect them to be challenging for the MAC title but they should not be getting blown off of the field in each and every game (189-65). Not only are they getting physically beaten but they're not doing the little things like getting in and out of the huddle efficiently and lining up correctly. I expected steady improvement. A nearby junior college agricultural school hired a coach three years ago and has gone 2-10, 7-6 and 3-1. Steady improvement. That's what I want to see.
  2. Thanks for the voice of experience and reason. Hope you are feeling better.
  3. They were never going to Florida. That was all wishful thinking. I am disappointed as hell that there haven't been games but appreciate the caution that's being demonstrated. I don't want our basketball season in another month or two to be where the NFL is now, so I will begrudgingly wait.
  4. To add to our doldrums, the Zips and PCCC are the only MAC teams yet to play a game. OU, Toledo and BG have already played 3 games.
  5. I'm not losing sleep over it and I wouldn't offer him a FBS level scholarship, but I can't see why you wouldn't take a chance on offering preferred walk on status to a three time state champion QB that plays a walk away from your home stadium. It costs you nothing and if nothing else it helps your relationship with a school that's turning out a boatload of D1 recruits.
  6. They have to get a win. That would be a major step and get them in the top 200. Play whoever gives you the best chance to win. Is Kato healthy enough to play?
  7. Agreed, but he does have a D1 brain. We've had plenty with neither.
  8. C'mon, be honest with us. You're Keith Dambrot aren't you?
  9. Some troubling quotes from the Beacon article today- “We did not do a great job getting in and out of the huddle," Arth said. "For whatever reason, we were moving in a little bit of slow motion ... We had to take a couple of timeouts to avoid delay of game or take a couple of timeouts because we were in the incorrect formation.” What the hell? You're 4 games in. “[That’s] really how we see them play every week,” Zips coach Tom Arth said when asked about the Miami defense. “They’re a team that wants to get an extra guy in the box and ... they’re going to outnumber you in the run game and they’re going to rely on their pass rush to affect your quarterback and affect the passing game. They did that.” So, to be clear, you knew what they were going to do and couldn't do anything about it. “I think this is the first time they’re going to walk off the field feeling down about how they played,” he said. “It’ll be a great test of their resilience and great test of their character to see how strongly we can come back and how much we can improve from a game like today.” They certainly did not look like they were feeling down.
  10. Looks like a shooter. https://www.hudl.com/profile/10513590/Evan-Wilson
  11. Well, the Zips won't have big booster Bob Dyer to write uninformed BS about them any more. He signed off today.
  12. I think you're going to need more than that.
  13. How do you sell this to a recruit?
  14. The MAC may be the only league that rivals the Big12 for points scored/bad defense.
  15. A DC finally figured out that he should concentrate on stopping the one thing Akron was doing OK- rushing the ball. 4 total yards rushing. That's downright embarrassing. Every team they've played is bigger, faster, stronger and more athletic. For those of you calling for the firing of Arth, it's wasted emotion. The school's finances simply won't allow it. Settle in. Enjoy basketball. For those of us that didn't want them to play FCS or D2 level football, I have bad news. They already are. This cluster is likely to draw about the same number of fans next year as it is this year.
  16. The commentator just said that the Miami WR was the "Greg Maddux of wide receivers." Eegads, it's bad enough that it's tough to watch. Now it's tough to listen.
  17. Solid start...
  18. Sitting here thinking how in past years I'd be sitting here planning my day around heading down to the JAR to watch our Zips take on some branch campus of some southern state university. Damn. Ugh. Heck, I'd even take a warmup against the Concord Grapes right now.
  19. Can I still call Senderoff Mr. Pinky? You have to meet me half way.
  20. Just saw Michael Flowers, formerly of Western Michigan, on Sportscenter. Apparently, he bailed out of Western when Hawkins got canned. He's playing for South Alabama and made a game winning shot the day after his dad died.
  21. I'm thankful for reasonably priced general admission season passes to Zips basketball and the diversion and joy the team brings through the winter doldrums. Heck, I even miss trudging through the wind, cold, snow and slush on the way into the JAR!
  22. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr...just stumbled across it.
  23. Thought i saw them at some point, but maybe not.
  24. Now all of the OOC games are off of the online calendar/schedule.
  25. I wonder how many awkward conversations the ticket office is having with ticket holders who paid a little extra to better their chances in the ticket lottery.
