  1. I listened to Groce on Zips Live tonight until I got a call. He said Sayles is playing the best basketball since he got to UA. He also said he would like a 9 man rotation but presently have 7, but that the 8 and 9 spots have to be earned. His happy with the offense but was not happy with the defense of second half Tuesday night.
  2. As I recall, Sayles was hurt in a home game against BG, which would have been January 13th. I'd hope he's back to 100% by now. I think his primary issue is mental in that he loses track of what's going on during the games and disappears sometimes, doing things losing his man, not boxing out, not looking for the ball... He's very good in transition when he's on the move. He's still young so I hope he comes around.
  3. NIU has beaten Rockford, Illinois Tech, Oral Roberts, Oakland, UC Davis, Western Illinois, Chicago State, Ohio and Miami and lost to James Madison, Green Bay, Butler. Northern Kentucky and Michigan State. They beat Chicago State by 41 while the Zips beat them by 39. The Zips beat the Huskies at the JAR last year 82-67 and have won 3 in a row against the Huskies.
  4. So, ummmmmmmm, looks like we just pretty much got the UTC staff.
  5. I have to take the coaching staff's view on the proper rotation of the big men as they see them in practice for hours on end as opposed to our limited views. From my spot in the cheap seats, Riak, Sayles and E-man are all superior to K-lac, and there just aren't that many spots in the rotation for big men. He's appears to be a great kid and his failures are not for a lack of effort, but he's so problematic at times on offense and defense that even my wife would cringe at times last year. I can't recall how many times last year I saw him shut down with the ball near the basket, make some weak shot fake and then turn the ball over, after which I hear a huge sigh and "why is he in the game?' from my better half. Even she could see it.
  6. Sayles has the most potential offensively. I think Riak is what we all expected him to be. GT referred to him erroneously early in the season as "virtually forgotten." Maybe GT was being prescient. I agree K-lac showed some some flashes last year. Unfortunately, they were greatly outnumbered by ugly turnovers and other assorted offensive miscues. He was also so foul prone that he couldn't stay on the floor. Unfortunately, the college game has evolved to a point where it's all 3 pointers and points in close. At this juncture, the Zips are below average at one and way below average at the other.
  7. Always happy to do it and ALWAYS eager to move on after a tough one. I damn near created the Tennessee State thread before the Marshall game was over!
  8. I too would like the centers to become more involved in the offense, but I would also like my rat terrier to wake up tomorrow looking like Jennifer Lawrence. I don't think either have it in them.
  9. The 9-6 Zips visit the 9-6 Huskies this weekend in lovely DeKalb, Illinois. DeKalb is home to the annual Corn Fest which is usually held in late August. The town is named after Baron Johann de Kalb, a major general in the American Revolutionary War. The Huskies are 2-0 in the MAC having beaten OU and Miami. They are led by 6 foot junior guard Eugene German (one of the least athletic names I've ever heard) at 20.7 ppg. 6-9 senior forward James Lacey leads rebounding at 7.3 rpg. The Huskies average 79.6 ppg and give up 72.7 ppg. Coach Mark Montgomery has led the Huskies since 2011.
  10. GOOD. TEAMS. FINISH.
  11. I find MoneyWise to be one of the 25 worst click bait sites.
  12. Yep, for a team that emphasizes defense, that was not a very good second half. To be successful in the MAC, you should win at home and split on the road, beating the "lesser" teams and losing to the better. I'm afraid the lost to a lesser team tonight.
  13. Wellllllllll............$h!+............
  14. I think the Zips win tonight. CMU's record is overblown from playing the little sisters of the poor in OOC play. As 2-0 start in league play would sure be nice.
  15. Many more games like the WMU game and I'll be sneaking hooch in in my pocket.
  16. I feel as though UA Athletics is discriminating against me by not providing the opportunity to paint and drink wine before a men's game. I demand a wings and fantasy football night!
  17. You know, I hadn't thought about that, but I do not recall seeing him.
  18. I think Gueye will be a help too. E-man and K-lac will slide further down the bench, maybe far enough to be out of Akron.
  19. Also, even if you don't think you have a chance at a kid because he's headed off to a more prestigious school, at least establish a relationship with him. College programs very much benefit from kids who "come home" &/or transfer after an original destination doesn't work out (e.g. Jonah Morris). UA has done this to some extent in the past, but more would be nice.
  20. Sayles seems to do best in transition. His low post footwork is improving. He made a beautiful move in the post Saturday to go by a guy then missed a bunny. Ugh. All of our big guys could take a boxing out lesson from LCJ. I've seen a guy that small so willing to find his guy and get into him to box him out.
  21. Welcome to the NCAA basketball transfer merry-go-round!
  22. That's classic Mr. Pinky. Beat Vandy and Oregon State away and lose at home to a team that got thumped by Detroit Mercy and Cleveland State.
  23. The 9-5 Zips hit the road to face the 12-2 Chippewas this Tuesday. CMU's losses have come to TCU and Weber State. They played a very unimpressive OOC schedule. They were picked to finish last in the West in the MAC pre-season poll. 6-2 senior guard Larry Austin Jr., who started at Xavier then transferred to Vanderbilt then to CMU, leads the Chipps at 19.2 ppg and 9 rpg. They also return the second, third and fourth leading scorers from last year's squad, Shawn Roundtree, David DiLeo and Kevin McKay.
  24. WMU will not be a .500 team and the mac and we're having trouble with them.
