  1. Turned on 95.9 yesterday to try to listen. Their transmission power must be equivalent to a refrigerator bulb. Shame, I was looking forward to hearing Joe Dunn.
  2. That's good news. I miss Dunn and the info he provided. Not always wild about Linder, but Dunn was enough to keep me interested.
  3. They're going to use him to clean the screen on the new scoreboard.
  4. That new floor looks a little rough.
  5. I was originally in the upper reserved. I then moved down to the lower. A couple of years ago, I opted to go back to the bleachers for that $60 deal. My back's a little sorer, but climbing those bleachers is the only exercise I get in the winter!
  6. ...and run it through a Commodore 64.
  7. I stuck with the radio broadcast as long as I could while cleaning up my car, but I finally shut it off when I couldn't bear to listen to Ross Detweiler (or whatever his name is). I love Frenchy and Joe Dunn's great, but that guy's stuttering and stammering coupled with his constant uttering of cliches and assorted idiocies makes me crazy. He may be the greatest guy in the world but he's like listening to a spoon in a blender for me. His high point today happened well in the third quarter with Penn State's starters still in when he explained that there's really very little difference between the PSU and UA starters, the big difference being in team depth. I guess that explains why PSU's first teams were up 38-0 at the time.
  8. Against the Browns, our old friend looked like a kid that could have used another year of college football.
  9. Good luck to Kwan and congrats. Have to love the roo connection!
  10. Yep, that and his slowness of foot hampers him defending the pick and roll. I'm still having nightmares from the 1st ten minutes of the NIU game with Marin Maric beating him down the floor repeatedly for layups.
  11. Let me preface this by saying I am a Big Dog fan and appreciate all he did for the Zips. That being said, he's not an NBA player. The pro game has moved away from traditional post up big men and given his "physical stature" he can't get up and down the floor as required by the NBA game. His ability to get back down the floor on defense and his inability to defend the pick and roll were exposed repeatedly. He certainly has some offensive skills, but they are not enough to make up for his other shortcomings in the context of NBA play.
  12. Yep, that's what I recall reading on here. Dang, that's the first misinformation ever on Zipsnation! Good luck to Noah. Kid always represented UA well. It is a real shame his college career was impacted by the knee injury. The year off may really benefit him.
  13. They've all heard the Zips are joining the ACC, so all of these teams are coming on board.
  14. I suspect the LBJ letter was in the UA correspondence, so it was subject to the public records law. As for Crean, I like how that paragraph was worded so that it looked like he was a candidate where it could have just been that his name was mentioned in passing by someone.
  15. Yep, and given the limited info in the article, we have no idea if that's close to average, more than most or whether they got a deal.
  16. The Akron Beacon Journal's slide into obscurity has gone undaunted for decades. They now have an all-time low in full-time reporters and are constantly missing major stories picked up first by the Plain Dealer. In that slide, news and sports stories fall to guys like Dyer. Dyer can't figure out whether he wants to be a columnist humorist or an investigative reporter. In the end, he does neither well. The article had some interesting info, like LBJ's support of Drew Joyce, but it was thrown together so haphazardly that it just came across as angry drivel.
  17. Wow, OSU hamstrung themselves with this one. Not that moving him along isn't the right thing to do, but doing it so late in the year just digs their hole deeper. Rough year for Big10 coaches. I think Crean is still looking. OSU should hire him for no other reason than to ruin the Harbaugh holidays and family reunions!
  18. As I've said before, I don't care if our guards are 4 feet tall if they can play. I've had a bigger problems with the physical strength of our guards and their lateral speed in the past than I have had with their height. In the MAC, the Zips are going to see many large backcourts, so I don't see a 5-10 or 6 foot guard as a major issue. For me, the jury is still out on Groce. I need to see the team and some results first. That being said, I am most impressed by what he's been able to put together under adverse circumstances.
  19. I would think the local governments down there are more likely to step up and help as the 13K a night at games coupled with hosting the opening round of the tourney benefits the local economy.
  20. That will be the goal (until they lose regular season games).
  21. I may be too skeptical, but I don't think most D1 basketball players are looking at the strength of their degree.
  22. I really hate the trend that has developed in college basketball where the "lesser conferences" have become recruiting grounds for the P5 and larger conferences, with the established conference schools poaching the top talent from places like the MAC and Horizon League. I guess I can't expect better from some of the scum at the top.
  23. As I understand it, Aaron is a great kid and a great teammate. He's a lighthearted personable kid everybody liked. As a Zip basketball player, he went sideways at best, never improving during his time there. I don't think it was for lack of effort. In any event, I don't think he was suddenly going to develop as a major MAC contributor as a senior and I'd rather have the open scholarship.
  24. Torrey Patton scored 21, had 4 assists and was named MVP of the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association North-South Division I-II Boys All-Star Game.
  25. I really like what Groce is doing. More than once, I heard our previous coach reference the Zips guards small stature and say they wouldn't have been able to get those kids if they were bigger. I'm not sure whether he was prematurely resigning himself to the fact he couldn't reach a little farther, or whether it was reality, but I'm happy to see Groce not coming to the same conclusion.
