  1. The best FBS coaches. Glad you limited it to FBS because those are not the best coaches who have been at Akron. Not gonna numerically rank 'em. But, Owens RECRUITED some really good talent. Hixon,Blackburn, Fry,Smith and more. Couldn't turn it in to a MAC Championship. Brookhart, took that talent, added some of his and won a MAC Championship. Actually I think the weakness in those 2006 and 2007 teams was defense. AND,Brookhart admitted it himself that he brought in some kids,David Harvey just one who were not college students but self centered athletes. Don't have a lot of love for Faust. Always thought Dennison should have at least been given a shot. But,the AD at the time thought he was smarter than everyone else. IMHO,that set this program back far more than fans realize. Thank goodness thats over now.
  2. The OC or the QB?
  3. UR correct! Can't tell anything from an early workout with a new coach and staff at the helm. Lets see what happens at the spring game and end of August.
  4. Was it? OK. But, we know who the folks are who will begin the negative posts if the first few games don't go the way they think they should have.If it was a 'fun' exercise that's fine. Don't show up later and tell us I told U so,please. Nobody is more tired of the mediocrity in this program than I am. Lets see who is still standing in August, please.
  5. Wasn't he a DB? Thats what he is.
  6. Obviously we know U R not serious. If they can win 6 games in the MAC they might very well get to the MAC Championship game. They only have to win one OOC game to get legit bowl eligible. Everybody who is an over the top optimistic needs to take a step back. Always hiccups when a new regime comes in. Shoot we don't even know if Arth wants Nelson as his starting QB do we? Roster won't be set until August. Relax!
  7. Would hope the offense will be more consistently productive than in the past few seasons. I was briefly looking at some Tenn-Chatt game highlights. Noticed some things about that offense. Arth runs a with wing back consistently. One back set from the shotgun. But also noticed used an actual tight end frequently in the highlights I saw. He also had the QB under center at times and ran from a one back AND I-formation from that set. Looks like a little more 'power' running than we have seen recently. I wonder then if Arth is going to go with Kato at the QB? I just wonder if he is going to take a long look at Ramart or somebody else he brings in. I didn't notice their QB doing too much running. Could have just been the game I was watching.
  8. IMHO the folks on this site need to steer clear of religious and political discussions. Whatever your poly/religi opinions are take them to a non-sports site....please. Too much of that crap going on in other places. Go there to make your personal opinions known.
  9. Stolen.
  10. Not a bad sched. No really short weeks except one day between the Miami/OU game. Both at home. If Arth can get these guys together in the first month the schedule isn't working against them...finally.
  11. Well it does matter IMHO. Couple of reasons. Has to fit the personnel he has inherited and recruited. He only recruited one that was listed as a QB. So, apparently he either uses Nelson or Ramart this season. From what I have seen those two are not the same type of QB. So I wonder if Nelson is going to be the starter. Second, the O-line might have to get a whole lot better if Arth runs a more diversified offense. Given his Pro background my guess is he just might. Hopefully. Lets see.
  12. Arth is bringing in some good size O lineman. The kid from Jackson could turn into a road grader if he can learn some technique and move his feet. Speaking of a change in system, what type of offense is Arth going to run?
  13. Penn Hills. Hope Arth gets some more kids out of Western PA. Been some good ones here in the past. Kid is big. Never hurts to have receivers/RB's thinking about getting run over by a freight train if they have the ball.
  14. I think these guys are smart enough to figure it out. This season is to get acquainted. Next season is the test!
  15. Hope we don't too get caught up in the speculation. Need to see how these guys perform on the field. The fact that Arth has done what a lot of posters wanted, recruit more NE Ohio students, hopefully raises the level of play for the program. As I stated I like the fact the he and his staff obviously have connections in NE Ohio. As long as they are recruiting legit DI talent go for it!!! When these guys get on the field we will see. But,everybody has fun speculating!
  16. We obviously don't know how this will play out one year, two years on down the road.Players have to play before we know how good/bad they are. But,for those who wanted more NE Ohio recruits,it appears these guys have have made a BIG push in that direction. We will see how that translates to improvement in the program. But,if Arth et.al can coach 'em up and install a rational offensive system we should see some improvement if not this season but next.
  17. Looks like from the list of actual signees posted on gozips Arth has thus far gone heavy on defense. Nice to see he also signed a couple of kids from 'big' high schools in NE Ohio. Got one from St. Eds and one from St. Iggy. Thats a good start at maybe getting some future attention from the big schools around here. Arth and his staff obviously have some connections in Georgia and the south. Thats pretty fertile ground. Be interested to see how many on the current roster now decide to stay or leave given what they have seen thus far? ?
  18. According to 247 Sports Shelton Felton a QC coach at Tennessee bailed on them and reunited with Arth, Looks like he left UTC to go to UT then decided he liked Arth better. Says he was a recruiter on the road at UT. Ummmm
  19. Pretty fertile ground for D-I capable talent in GA.If he can pull just a few out of there and really upgrade activity in Ohio and Penna. he might be able to bring in some talent to supplement what he has on the roster already. JD did it in '04-'05. He just couldn't sustain it.
  20. Looking quickly through these bios. appears that most of these guys have experience coaching and/or playing in Ohio.So they are likely going to have contacts established around here already. A couple have experience in California and down South. They have mostly not totally recruited for the D-III level. They are going to have to be able to snag TRUE D-I capable athletes from the area in order to get the program to progress. That means competing with not only Big 10 schools but also more higher profile MAC programs. Thats tough because there is a limited number of that caliber of athlete from around here to go around. Still gonna need to bring in athletes from outside the area to upgrade the talent level. Going to be interested in seeing where they concentrate recruiting besides this area.
  21. Not that either Lomardo or Tyrell might not do an excellent job at the D-I. Who knows. Would still like to see assistants who have at least some experience in D-I, D-II or D-III. Mat not get D-I assistants at this level. But, would be beneficial if they have college experience and recruiting experience. Still want to see him recruit more in Western PA. It appears Arth has plenty of cache in this part of Ohio. One of the keys is to get the HS coaches to be willing to 'talk up' considering Akron when choosing a school. If you can get a couple of kids from the Mentors,St. Ed's,St. Iggies,Hobans etc. to commit to Akron,if the program improves others will follow.
  22. Apparently this McCarty guy runs a football academy of some type.
  23. Not sure about 'reading in'. What I am thinking is that the new coach has no allegiances to anybody on the roster who doesn't perform up to HIS expectations. Thats from the QB on down. Would imagine that some folks who started last season won't be this season. New sheriff, new deputies.
