Lance Leopold moved from Wisconsin WhiteWater(the other giant in D-III) to UB in 2015. If I read correctly his record has been 5-7, 2-10, 6-6 and 10-2 regular season. As we know went to the MAC Champ game this year. Point? Could a super successful D-III coach make a successful jump? Appears possible. Probably has more to do with the person and his ability to adapt to a more complex environment than anything else. Still not necessarily the way I would go but,not out of the question.

Didn't realize he was making that much. Shows us what a totally different world P5 football is compared to us peons in G5. Getsy checked almost all of the boxes I was looking for except previous HC experience. But, he has had so much experience at so many different levels including as a high level assistant that this job would seem to be a great first shot for him. But,if that $600,000 figure is correct it would be real difficult to take the pay cut he would have to take to come here. Given the AD's background I am wondering if he is looking for that varied experience, college, professional, high level assistant, offensive guy for his next hire. Wouldn't rule out anybody who checks those boxes and is familiar with the football terrain in Ohio and Western Penna.

Been kickin' around a long time and in a number of different places not have become a HC somewhere previously?

Agree, have to at least be competitive to win the division every year. Not that you win it every year, obviously. But,you have to be at least 5-3 in conference to do that. Brookhart did what he needed to do the first two years he was here. He took some decent talent leftover from Owens' teams, added some decent talent of his own and won a MAC championship. Got left out of a Bowl game in 2004. Hopefully, the next coach can accurately evaluate what is left on the roster after graduations, transfers and de-commits,bring in a few good pieces and at least get back to .500 next year. If nothing else,if the next guy can put a competent offense on the field they should pick up a couple of wins. But,lets see who that next guy is ,for sure, and lets see which players stick around and which do not.

Since Williams played in the NFL I wonder how much he values bringing some of that experience to the college level?Obviously, some of these guys fit that bill. I also like the guys who have a background in this area and in Western Penna. There is some really good football played in the D-II PSAC. They would be familiar with recruiting procedures as well as talent in and around here. Would Kehres be willing or ready to jump into the whole recruiting thing? As an aside to Kehres, does anybody remember if UofA ever seriously pursued Larry way back when?

With all the talk about a head coach, I wonder who might make good assistants. Jim Ballard, former Cuyahoga Falls and MOUNT UNION QB who spent time in the CFL and I think in the NFL would make an interesting QB coach or OC. Has the Mount pedigree. Runs a QB training academy. One of the problems around here has been developing QB's to potential.

I lived in Texas for 10 years. I can assure U that THE best athletes there play football. And pretty much at a higher level than is played in Ohio these days. Go to Dallas,Houston, San Antonio etc, etc. The public schools down there have THE best facilities.Private schools in Texas don't compete with public schools for state championships if I am not mistaken. No advantage in going to a private school if you can't AFFORD it and u want to play football. Unlike here. I lived in AZ. That has become a football hot bed in the last 25 years. None of them are going to come to this part of the world to play in shitty weather when they can play in AZ or California. Those parts of the country are gaining population. Thus more kids playing sports in the schools.

As before,he has had names in mind since he became the AD. If he makes a good hire here his next level AD job will come calling.

Problem might be that some of the people Bowden brought in or was recruiting will go elsewhere now that Bowden is gone. Happens all the time. The team as it is constituted now may lose some key people over the winter.
-
You stated a key fact...the BEST HS players from around here do not usually come to Akron or the school in Portage County. They go to the Big 10 and other higher level conferences. It is true that there is still some 'big time' HS talent around here. Just doesn't normally land here. Western Pennsylvania should become an area of emphasis again.

He went into coaching at IUP, winning D-II program. People have thought enough of him to give him positions at the Pro and Major College level. He was a Pitt recruit. He is from Western PA as I understand. Yep,I would like to see a candidate from a winning FCS or D-II program at least. But, Getsy has seen a lot at every level since 2006. At least give him a look.

Tell me about Getsy!

Just for purposes of discussion,if the AD goes to Bowden and says Milwee has to go if you want to stay(not in so many words mind you) what happens? I honestly don't think thats the way MOST AD's or head coaches would want to operate. But who knows? And,what if Bowden says 'I'll make the change as long as I can pick the guy I want'? Pure speculation.
-
I said earlier that Williams just may be trying to allow a historically solid coach like Bowden go out on his own terms. One would assume that Williams is seriously considering making a change. But,far stranger things have happened.
-
Got it. Just not a big UB fan.
-
Sigh! Seems so long ago.
-
Milwee is not the only problem. Williams MAY be trying to let Bowden go out on his own terms. Just a guess. But,I keep seeing this just get rid of Milwee stuff and everything will be OK. Don't we think that if Bowden thought Milwee was 'THE" problem and the reason the offense has been so awful that he wouldn't have 'replaced' him long ago? Are we saying Bowden is keeping Milwee in place even if by doing so it is costing the team wins? Here is hoping that Williams does have a list and has a couple of prospects still on the radar.

Solich is the guy you 'hate'....unless he is on YOUR sideline.
-
Kyron Brown could have been a first teamer. But,teams knew they didn't have to go in his direction. Bell seemed to 'fall off' as the season wore on.
-
Would you take 6-2 in the MAC right now?

'SHOW ME THE MONEY'!!

Since the conference season is over, thought it would be interesting to see how the Zips stacked up in some categories. Again, these are CONFERENCE stats only from the MAC site. Offensively: Total offense: #8 overall/Passing O- #9 overall/ Rushing O-#12(last) overall/Scoring O-#11 overall/Passing Efficiency-#11 overall/Kato Nelson had a pass completion % of 51.6-last in the MAC(9 TD's/6 INT's)/First Downs-#12(last). Defensively: Total D-#8/Passing D-#4/Rush D-#10/Turnover Margin-#12(last)(-9)/Sacks-For-16/Against-24/Interceptions-#12(last)/Lako was 3rd in Total Tackles/Alvin Davis-12th/Gilbert-22nd/Tackles for Loss-Jamal Davis-#3. If I have made any errors please advise. Again I saw these on the MAC website. Given the numbers its fairly easy to see why there were only 2 conference wins.

I'll take Solich tomorrow! Can you get him here?
-
Especially the development aspect.
-
Maybe he did, maybe he did not. A lot of people are claiming Bowden tookover the worst program in the MAC in 2012. Maybe he did maybe he did not. I'll admit it wasn't good. I doubt if it was the worst program' in Division I however. That would cover a whole lot of really bad programs. But look at Solich's record. Only 2 sub .500 seasons since he took over. Again, when you want to compare yourself to the lowest common denominator you will look 'OK'. But,you will never look good against the best. That train claiming taking over the so called worst program left the station 4 years ago.
