  1. Some things still trouble me going forward. As a number on this site have noted throughout, the offensive play calling hasn't seemed to put the offensive talent at hand in favorable positions to win on a regular basis. For example if, as many have said you don't have a QB who can execute(no pun intended) the offensive system you want to run then you have to adjust the system to the talent you have at that position. Has that happened often enough this season? I still fear thatsome good talent might choose to leave via the Portal given what is happening. And, as before, I fear that potential transfers are going to look at the program and question coming here. Every program wants a 'decent' QB. That guy isn't going to drop out of the sky. And, if the offensive coaches can't 'coach 'em up' once he gets here or can't adapt to that kid's limitations what happens? Maybe this defense can 'win' one more game this season. The D deserves it. Maybe EMU?
  2. We were wondering if the offensive coaches had learned anything from last week. Apparently, they decided to ignore the lessons. Obviously Miami is much better than KSU. So why would Moorehead et. al expose their QB the way they did last night. Ran the ball 19 times. But, threw it 42 times!? The O-line couldn't hold up against the Miami pass rush. But, lets throw 42 times, Lindgard had 11 carries for 43 yards. Not bad. No other runs by a running back? The play calling does not fit the talent at hand. Even I have to start questioning the ability of the offensive staff at this point. Losing my belief that Moorehead was the right hire. Oregon doesn't seem to be missing him too much do they? On the other side, the D got gouged on the ground but only gave up 19 points.
  3. Don't see how Akron competes with Miami. I am hoping for 1 more win this season. Want to see Moorehead continue to alter his play calling to take some heat off Undercuffler and let him try to do something like what he did against KSU, manage a game. Moorehead has to try to keep his offense on the field longer. That means stay with Lingard et al even if it isn't producing much early. If Moorehead reverts, the D will be gassed and the game out of hand. Lets see if the coaches have learned anything Certainly not what we were hoping for. At least the D made sisgnificant improvement.
  4. Yep. If Undercuffler's coming out party means doing what he did last Wednesday I'm sure we could all roll with it. I'll bet the coaches could also. Lets see if Moorehead has some more patience. If he tries to throw it all over the field against Miami it could be ugly.
  5. Now wish I had stayed for the whole thing! Offensively, some things really stuck out. Obviously, Lingard is a helluva tough runner. He got better the later in the game and the more he carried. 20+ times I believe. They actually started to wear down KSU's D. Hope Moorehead remembers. Undercuffler, hopefully had a coming out party. He started throwing the ball with more decisiveness and confidence as the game went on. He was hitting some slants and getting the ball out on the sideline patterns. That and the run game kept the rush off of him and let him see the field. No picks. They actually kinda ran a screen also. Hopefully he can ride that for the next 3 games. Lets let him play it out and see what happens. Confidence! Also helps that his receivers were finally getting some separation in the secondary. The D came up big when it had to. I still really like Nunnally. Finally, Moorehead seemed to finally be willing keep going with the run when it was working. That the O stayed on the field and actually score helped the D keep the game somewhat under control. Three tough games coming. Lets see how much everybody has learned.
  6. They actually ran a screen!!!!
  7. If the D can tighten up against the run, which has exposed it the last few weeks Akron has a shot. BUT, KSU is still running that fire alarm offense that has killed Akron the last few years. The D coaches need to have those guys ready to stay on the field and not get caught in substitutions.
  8. I can see the logic of starting another QB. I can also see logic in not starting a new one. You might see something that surprises. But, another Akron QB might get beat up and have his confidence destroyed. Those guys haven't been getting reps all season unless one of them did this week. Would be nice to beat KSU but I think its probably going to be up to the D to do it. Is Moorehead going to change at this point in the season? Not likely. You might get 1 win. But, with 3 games left against better opponents not sure that does much for momentum into 2024. How frustrating!
  9. Debating whether or not I am going.
  10. This is going to be a real pillow fight.
  11. Agree that the D is mch better. But, Buffalo kinda exposed them. They ran, NIU ran and ran. Looks like Central ran. As far as frustration, I have been watching Akron since the late 1960's. I have seen good, real good, bad and real bad. This season what is so frustrating to me is that the offense has not improved from last season to this, nor from the beginning of this season to now. I expected to see that improvement through the first month, but no. I am still wondering about Moorehead, his play calling and his inability to coach up a QB. This does not bode well for the future. Hope they can at least beat KSU. After that, looks like no chance.
  12. Well, at least they scored in the 2nd half(lol). It seems like we are always posting about how bad the offense is! To me it is beyond disbelief that Moorehead hasn't figured out the situation at QB specifically or the offense generally. IMHO, this has nothing to do with Irons' injury. The offense except for the Indiana mirage hasn't progressed no matter which QB Moorehead picked out of the hat that includes Irons. In fact I think the play calling by the coaches has contributed mightily to putting the QBs in bad positions not to metion hanging the defense out to dry. Moorehead has complicated the situation by going with a QB who was obviuosly physically impaired by injurires. He then couldn't decide on who to play and still hasn't. The passing game is a dumpster fire. And, Moorehead won't consitently use his run game. As I said before, I am worried what happens in the off season with the transfer portal. Some of the more talented kids aren't likely to stick around. And, who is he going to be able to convince to come here given the poor quality of the program for years? Sad.
  13. Its a shame we have to go back so far to find even some positives about Akron football. Just to be clear, I haven't seen anyone use the word 'great' in association with Owen's time at Akron. He didn't inherit much when he took over either. Owens coached more losing seasons(6) than winning seasons(3). During the 3 winning seasons the teams went 7-4, 6-5 and 7-5. After that 7-5(5-3 in the MAC) season he got fired?! Really? He had 3 seasons when his teams went 5-3 in the MAC. Right now would we accept that? 5-3 in conference, yes. Point? Just seems that the University was making questionabl decisions that inhibited the growth of the program. If Owens was a 'nothing' I am not sure what we have had since. Lets hope it all comes together next season.
  14. Way back, the University could have kept Dennison and justified it. Didn't thay make the I-AA playoffs one year when he was the coach? I'll go back and check. He also had the program winning consistently at the DII level. Two playoff wins in the 1976 season. Knute Rockne Bowl and all that. First overtime playoff game in the NCAA. Dennison was transitioning to recruiting DI level players as opposed to DII or I-AA. As we know all too well that takes some time. Faust is a real nice person. But, the University had to see he couldn't recruit at the college level even at Notre Dame. Otherwise he could have stayed at ND. And then you have to ask why he didn't get hired at another upper level DI program. As for the Acme-Zip game in 1987, they 'filled the Bowl' before Faust got there. The Faust name, not his record was why he got hired. The football program has gained little consistent traction since it went DI. From firing Dennison to firing Lee Owens when they did and I'll even through JD in there. Too many AD's using Akron as a resume builder, hiring who they want and moving on. Sad and frustrating.
  15. Think David Harvey. Special Teams All-American during Brookhart's time. I watched that guy lay out on more plays as a WR. Great physical talent. Bad citizen. Probably why he ended up at Akron. Didn't last long.
  16. I still go back to the Dennison situation. Faust was a publicity stunt. There was also this guy by the name of Lee Owens. Remember him? Recruited NFL caliber talent. Got fired after a winning season. Brookhart and Moorehead won for 2 seasons with a lot of Owens' recruits especially on the offensive side. Charley Frye, Dom Hixon, good O-linemen. JD got Getsy from Pitt to replace Charley. Moorehead was given some talent to work with. Like JD said after the 2005 season, 'we got lucky before we got good'. Moorehead is not going anywhere unless he steps away. He has got to decide on which QB he has on the roster that he is going to go with and play him!
  17. Problems with relying too much on the portal. It cuts different ways. Kids are going to look at these 2 seasons with Moorehead and think, 'why do I want to go there' especially when the record has been so bad for years. Kids currently on the squad can leave by the portal. If you have some talent and eligibily you may want to take a shot someplace else. Funny how the same names of the quality MAC programs keep popping up year after year..Toledo, OU etc.
  18. please donn't blame the D. It has tried to carry Moorehead all season. At some point you just give up.
  19. Maybe the graveyard.
  20. Thank you!!!
  21. When they hired Moorehead I thought, great. Nope. He doesn't even seem like he wants to be a head coach. Still wonder why he is not at Miami. One more season or we start all over again.
  22. There are these players called running backs. We have some good ones! Use them!
  23. Who else is ready to suit up? Does Getsy have any eligibilty left?(lol)
  24. Unless Moorehead develops an effective run game, using RB's NOT QB's this thing is going nowhere this year.
  25. Yep. Damn the torpedos, full speed ahead!
