Camp starts on Monday. NCAA rule changes will be noticeable: Double sessions, meaning 2 complete, contact practices, have been eliminated Teams are allowed to start camp 1 week earlier Teams can hold a second practice, but they can only be walkthroughs - no pads, helmets, contact, or conditioning The total pre-season practices allowed is still 29.

As usual GT demonstrates his prowess at using many words to say very little: University of Akron football: Coach Terry Bowden, players confident of bounce-back season after disappointing 2016

Offers from Eastern Michigan, Robert Morris, Delaware, Ball State, Navy, Army, and Notre Dame College (Ohio). HS Coach's remarks, "“Logan is a very high-character kid and very intelligent,” Penn-Trafford coach John Ruane said. “He is a great athlete for a big guy. He is very explosive off the ball and can really move laterally.” " 1st Team All Conference

This is very close to what I have seen Bobby Bowden propose. He actually suggested going back to no helmets for the reasons you mention.

I think there is also a difference between posting a critique of a player's actual performance than to go into a character assisnation or to rip into them based on a recruit's film, alone. There seems to be never a goid reason for character assination, especially if it comes from a single source, like one player. Players rarely have all of the facts and almost never represent the coach's thinking.

Agreed. I don't mind being picked low. It's finishing low that is bothersome.

You aren't enrolled until you are taking classes. Many freshmen come early and take classes, but not all do. There are too many little factors as to why some do and some don't to really have a rule of thumb.
-
If we have Woody, Iowa State is very winnable.
-
I don't believe they can be listed on the roster until they are enrolled in classes. If they are not yet enrolled, as in taking summer classes, that could 've part if the reason why we don't see them.

MAC Football 2017: Akron tailback Warren Ball can turn pass-happy Zips into ground warriors (video) Akron's Ball Learns a Lot From Zips Hall of Famer Akron remains a wildcard in MAC East race

LOL. I get a kick out of the board's proclamation of what Bowden has to do. They aren't going to buy him out of a contract at this point. He is here through 2018.

Comprehensive New Players Listing - 2017

No big surprises. DL is still very vulnerable. We could really use a strong NT. -
Average attendance will be below 10,000 thanks to our November schedule.

Sitting top talent in games against P5 teams would be the sure way to ensure we do not get future top talent.

There was a lot of skepticism about JoJo and he turned out to the the real deal.
-
I guess I don't get the skepticism where Ball is concerned. 1) He has all of the stars, for those who cared about stars 2) He is a beast, physically - there can be no question as to whether he has the right body type 3) Speed is not an issue 4) He performed well in his two starts for us. 5) One freak injury does not make one injury prone. A broken bone, like he had can happen to the best conditioned athletes. I get that he has not had the chance to light up the board with stats, yet, but I see nothing but reason to feel highly optimistic about this kid. I am not going to hold it against him that he sat the bench behind Ezekiel Elliot.
-
Maybe he will be Kyle Foster's replacement. Because really need to travel a kid who does nothing but hold for the kicker.

QB, D line, punting, and WR are my top 4 concerns. I must say, not looking forward to boring punt returns again after a year of being dazzled by JoJo. Honestly, none of it matters if Tommy isn't healthy because we will be too easy to shut down with a mediocre QB. IMHO, it Tommy isn't 100% we might see true freshman Alex Rammart in the mix.

Game 1—@Penn State Nittany Lions
zipsoutsider replied to zipsoutsider's topic in Akron Zips Football
Not so encouraging for us after the worst tackling I have witnessed, last year. -
My predictions are based on a healthy Tommy Woodson. -Penn State: We lose, but it is one of our better offensive performances against a quality team. Woodson rises to the occasion and plays well against many former HS foes, Ball flashes signs of greatness early until the PSU defense makes the necessary adjustments to plug up holes. If we have some early success, I expect trickery to make an early appearance. -Arkansas-Pine Bluff: If we don't blow them out, we are in trouble. Warren Ball rushes for 175+ yards, Woodson throws for over 350 yds. It's a nice opportunity for less experienced receivers to get some game time route running and catches. Gilbert and Jamal Davis have their way with the backfield. -Iowa State: This could go either way. A non-conference game like this is not going to be a hot seat qualifier, even if we don't win. -Troy: This will be a great test for us and give us the best preview into the conference schedule. -Bowling Green: The Zips finally turn the tide against BG and win. -Ball State: This will be a good match up with an improving Ball State team. We should win, but should not despair if we don't. -Western Michigan. We row...oh, wait. Zips win. PJ who? -Toledo: Front runners for MAC title - this could be the biggest game of the season for the Zips if they are competitive this year. -Buffalo: In the pattern of blow outs at home against Buffalo, we win and we can all forget about last year's disaster in Buffalo. *Bye Week -Miami: Bye week bliss strikes and we win, but not in a blowout. Weather will be miserable and a running game saves the day. -Ohio: This could go either way, but isn't it about time we beat them? -Portage County: Zips win big with a balanced scoring attack. Chapman ends his regular season career with the Zips on a high note and has a banner receiving day.
