  1. Let me just say this. Lolla left here after 12 years, no Final 4 appearances, and Akron had not been to a Final 4 since 1986. He's now taken a team to the Final 4, and a Championship game. And he made more money. I don't think the guy thinks he made a bad move. Good for him. Thankfully for us, we caught "lightning in a bottle" with the guy we chose to replace him. I'll take it. Because, as all of us know who've been around here awhile, Akron's had a way of ending up on the bad end of many coaching transitions.
  2. Funny that one of those teams we beat, who you now refer to as a "no one", beat FAU. Done !!
  3. I was trying to give you the benefit of the doubt by looking at your game against Marshall this season under your new coach. But your outcomes in those games against Marshall in both 2016 and 2017 were similar anyway. I just think I keep getting this perspective of.... We lost to Buffalo, BUT and You guys blew out Marshall, BUT Great. You brag about all of those crappy C-USA teams you beat after Buffalo. But we didn't play any of those teams, so Buffalo is the most recent common opponent we have to compare. And you keep belittling our results in MAC games after that point, and you didn't play those teams to compare either.
  4. FAU Fans: You can dice up the schedules all you want, and compare opponents as subjectively as you wish. But you can't get any closer than looking at common opponents, and there's only 2 of them over the last 14 months. We beat Buffalo You lost to Buffalo We blew out Marshall by 30, on the ROAD. You squeaked by them at home. Excuse it away with injuries, new system, etc., but you can't just repeatedly ignore the two most direct comparisons we have, and ask us to look at comparisons that are far more distant and subjective.
  5. I do wonder how much a fast-paced game in 80+ degree weather might affect us this time of the year. It's been awhile since we played in those conditions.
  6. I'm glad someone posted this, since I am sure many of us have a hard time recognizing whether he's "working" or on vacation throughout the year. So......We're expecting what level of coverage for our Bowl Game next week?
  7. I think you hit the nail on the head. Maybe some people need to factor in the fact that we are playing these cupcakes this year with a team that's not as good as teams we've put up against them in the past. These teams may "appear" to be more competitive for that reason.
  8. I love to hear our Akron Boys saying this, when they are about to leave here. Not only for the future recruits, but for the way they will spread this kind of talk throughout the local community as a whole.
  9. Makes it look like I was drinking when I wrote it, doesn't it?
  10. Well, I'm not surprised at your justification, knowing that you've already chosen to ignore the fact that you lost to Buffalo, and we beat them. Say whatever you want, but we've got 2 common opponents in the last year or so, and we've fared better against both of them.
  11. The score wasn't as close as it appeared when we trounced Marshall by almost 30 points, a little over a year ago. With you guys beating a common opponent by a slim margin, and are calling them a tough game, I think you might be seeing why many of us are hesitant to take a C-USA program as seriously as you might hope.
  12. I heard Terry giving the number during his Boca Raton press conference. I can't remember the exact number, but it was somewhere in that neighborhood. I thought I heard either 27 or 37, but 37 seems really high.
  13. Last night, I showed this to my wife, as an example of what our Christmas Tree should look like next year. She disagrees.
  14. Can you still ask for one of these things at the counter at Burger King? It's been a few years. Well....I think I saw drunk one time and asked for one.
  15. I agree with you on all of this. This is exactly how I feel right now. Our bowl win 2 years ago didn't grab any headlines outside of Akron. This one would. That's exactly the kind of opportunity I want for us in a bowl.
  16. I remembered seeing that. I think it was in UA's game highlights. I agree that it was a classic. I wish I could see it again sometime.
  17. I made the reference to the WMU vs. App. State game to illustrate the quality of our opponent, not to start a debate about WMU's stature. But, why would you find it so unusual for a sports fan to compare common opponents when trying to get a preliminary idea of how we might stack up when conference play begins in a few weeks? Concerning Groce, I'm pretty sure I joined the very large group of people who indicated that they are "not sure about this hire". You can go and check that. All of my "hoping for a .500 season" comments are just my honest thoughts. I've actually gotten to talk to John on many occasions, and have enjoyed talking to him. Meanwhile, I actually find it odd that you posted this solely to question why I appear to be so critical, while you continue to go to the Dambrot thread to criticize at every opportunity. Including commenting that Duquesne has "not beaten a team with a pulse" ? Go check our SOS vs. Duquesne's SOS, if you claim that you only care about the facts. You'll find that you;re being quite hypocritical, and that your hatred for Keith appears to be skewing your judgement.
  18. You came here to post the obvious? Can we interpret this as your latest installment of "I'm going to take my shots at him all season long"? (see your previous post) They were 3-15 in conference play last year, and finished in last place in a 14-team league. I'm sure he is well aware of the challenge that's ahead of him, without a bitter Akron fan taking every opportunity to remind him.
  19. You just tried to brag about how good WMU is this year, and then demonstrated otherwise, all in the same post.
  20. I don't know much about them. But if I was there coach I suppose I'd be happy with their offensively efficiency, but really disappointed that they gave up a whopping 90+ to a team that I don't expect to be any kind of scoring machine this season.
  21. Knowing that Western beat them by 20 is a little troubling. So yes, something more convincing would have made me feel better.
  22. Oh boy. For those who aren't "in the loop", there's going to be a lot of angry people who show up at 2pm and find out that there's no game. I just wish we could have avoided an afternoon game from the outset. It makes no sense considering what people are going to be doing during the day on Saturday, with just 2 weeks until Christmas.
  23. They appeared to have more size, and beat us up physically. Early on, you could get the sense that this was the way the officials were going to let this game go, and that was clearly to Stanford's advantage. The TV cameras caught plenty of other altercations between players that I don't even think the refs ever saw, or they kept deciding to let them go. I don't believe I have ever seen a college soccer game that was allowed to be that physical. I wonder if this changes a coach's recruiting focus a bit, so we can have some physical players to equalize things in a Final 4 game that starts to go this way? In this situation, doesn't it seem like we should have changed what we were doing, and try to beat them "over the top"? I realize that's not our style, but I'd think that we'd have to be prepared at some point to find a way to attack a team that was over-pursuing on the back end. Basketball teams know how to beat a press and get easy baskets at the other end. I'd think that you can prepare a soccer team to know what to do when the defense is playing like that too. But to your point, I was impressed that Stanford got away with that for the entire game. So often, they seemed to have everyone covered, and had the ability to get into our normal passing lanes. It was unbelievable to watch.
  24. Thanks for the update. I hadn't heard a thing since she supposedly retired a few years ago.
