Have you forgotten so soon? We won the MAC, even WITH the Abreu stumble Diggs, Harney and Treadwell should be enough to put us right there with everyone else. Then we'll see which way the ball bounces, same as each of the last 8 years.

Cleveland had a population of 914,000 in 1950, and has a population of 396,000 today. Yes, that's CURRENT information. They've lost nearly 2/3 of their population, and 17% of that loss was in the last decade. Care to even remotely compare that to Akron? Are you serious? I can tell by the last sentence that you may just be your classic LeBron hater. Go ahead and call him a choker. I'm sure you were wearing your Maveliers shirt, your OKCLE shirt, and whatever shirt they were all wearing this year, while LeBron was wracking up 2 titles, 2 more MVPs, and Cleveland fans were still worshipping the promises of idiot Dan Gilbert. Going back to my original post on this topic, it just amazes me that some people are still hanging on so tightly to the "I'll say anything negative about LeBron, any chance I get, no matter what" mentality. Again, it's what makes Cleveland.....well.....Cleveland.
-
I can't make you change your opinion, but let me at least enlighten you a bit. Trying to find any negative with having the best basketball player on the planet being associated with our program, and hanging out with our players and coaches is pretty ridiculous, compared to pointing out the most obvious faults with a city that's been the laughing stock of people across America, for decades, for a number of different reasons. Quite a difference. River on fire...more than once? First major American city ever to go into bankruptcy? A decrease in population of hundreds of thousands over the last several decades? No major sports titles since 1964? But, I'm sure anyone would recognize that being associated with someone like LeBron James is right up there with being a defender of the greatness of the City of Cleveland, Ohio. And please tell how Akron's existence is so dependent upon the "booming" Cleveland economy.

Well said.

Outstanding post. It doesn't surprise me that a few LeBron haters are still hanging around, and choose to express themselves, no matter what the discussion is about. The attitudes and actions of Cleveland sports fans is a good part of the reason why Cleveland is what it is. And let me add: What about the 17 year olds who already know that LeBron is associated with the program, and see the chances to meet him or play with him at some point to be pretty likely?
-
Are you serious?? Nobody else related to the basketball program knew about it. Unless we find out otherwise, there is not one iota of "lack of institutional control" in this kind of situation, at all.

So, you are guessing that 5,000 tickets have been sold so far? I have no idea how many we normally have been selling by early August over the last few years.
-
That's strange. Every other away opponent we play chooses to give the away fans a great experience by putting everyone close together, down by the field. Including the team that we will be playing this September, which just broke an all-time record for attendance.

I was last at an Akron/OSWho road game about 6 or 7 years ago. The game that Akron trailed 3-2 at the half. The Akron section was at the very top level, under the video board. Just about the location from which this picture was taken. Above the tunnel where the visiting team enters/exits. We were able to yell down to our players and coaches. You can ask anyone else who was there. But even if, as your picture shows, they have moved visiting fans to the top level of the other side, is that any better? Every other game road game I've been to as an Akron road fan, sitting in the designated Akron section, it's been behind the Akron bench near the end zone, down by the field.
-
I've been to plenty of Zips road football games over the years. Somewhere near the corner of the end zone, down by the field, on the Akron bench side is the typical location for the group of tickets allotted to the visiting team. Only the morons down at OSWho put the visiting fans on the upper deck by the end zone scoreboard, a mile and a half away from the field.

top 40 recruiting classes
skip-zip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
A question for any of you who follow college soccer much more closely than the rest of us: Isn't it at least a little bit alarming that Akron had a #23 ranked recruiting class? By comparison, if Alabama or LSU or another top college football power had a #23 recruiting class, wouldn't their fans also have a concern about their future supremacy? -
It would be sad for me if UPA went away. I've gotten to know some of the people involved with the organization quite well over the years, and I really believe that this organization has represented our very, very rare opportunity to turn the University area into something special.

So, we're at least the odds on favorite to be better than 3 other teams in the league? That shows some optimism from the prognosticators. It's also entertaining to see that Can't State likely won't continue their "one hit wonder" success. I think we will soon find that 2012 will be regarded as their new 1972.

Morgantown - 30,000 Akron - 230,000 That roughly equates Morgantown to somewhere like Barberton. I think he was only comparing the cities, and Akron obviously is much larger, and has many more amenities than Morgantown. So, there is no comparison. "Morgantown" is not a "football-crazed city". The STATE loves their football team, and that just happens to be the Small City where they gather 6 times a year to watch their state's football team play.

Dave, Lets go back a few posts. You pointed out that his performance may not have helped/hurt him one way or another. And I'm merely pointing out that the fact that he is spending entire games, or most of games, on the bench, in a Summer League, is certainly a far greater indicator of where he stands right now among his peers than analyzing what he is doing in the few bench minutes that he is actually on the floor.
-
You totally missed the point. Read my post again. The fact that you saw that he wasn't playing should have been far more indicative of his situation than whatever your analysis might be of what you saw when he was playing.
-
Are you trying to play "Switzerland" on this one? I'd say that not playing at all in several games, and only playing a few minutes in others, and not scoring points, on an NBA Summer League team is a really, really bad sign in terms of your prospects of moving upward.
-
He's one of those rare guys who played athletics here at Akron, where words just can't describe their passion, commitment, and enthusiasm. So, I'll just leave it at that.

Five year contract extension for Jodi Kest

Of course. What would you expect? Especially the first and last person mentioned. -
Exactly my point.

And the exhibition of the loser culture of Cleveland sports fans goes on, and on, and on.
