  1. But that same media sure enjoys baiting the Lefty's into calling the rest of us racists and bigots for not conforming. I'm not sure if too many people in the mainstream media even want to "call out" the groups promoting the nonsense. I think most of them actually believes that this insanity makes sense.
  2. Maybe the consequences will be different this time. Maybe they'll truly go after them hard this time. I welcome anything that helps to shake things up, and possibly even the playing field a bit.
  3. That, right there, illustrates the complete hypocrisy of this entire issue involving the NFL players, and their actions. First, I appreciate that you put that line at the end of your comments, stating that this was your experience, and that you're well aware that instances of hatred happen to people of ALL races. We certainly all admit that racial hatred is a real problem. However, I hope you're not stereotyping the people of a particular locale (Bath Township) yourself. Or, that a white waitress reacting to a bad tip so unprofessionally should automatically be perceived as "racially motivated". I think that's how FAR too much fuel gets put on the fire of this issue (no Gasoline Alley pun intended). I've had plenty of my own experiences as a white man in Akron, including straight-out name calling, and was once unforgettably told, "All White A$$ Cracker Need To Die" by an angry black man on an Akron street. And I won't even get into my disdain for the way the College Student Assistance program discriminates against people like myself. But please know, it hurts me to know that the town I love and have called my home for nearly 35 years does not have a fond place in your heart because of some of your experiences here.
  4. Perfect example. I support anyone who wants to "stop racism". That means anyone directing hatred towards someone else because of their color, regardless of the color of the perpetrator or the victim.
  5. 100% Correct If you are a paid employee of an NFL team, making millions of dollars, and you don't want to participate in the longstanding pregame festivities that are part of that form of employment, then maybe "would you like Fries with that Big Mac" would be a more suitable way for you to spend your workday. They won't "force" you to do something as appalling as respecting your country for a few seconds before you perform, in those establishments. Keep your politics on your own non-work time. Just like the rest of us have to do. It will be quite an interesting day when the angry fans decide not to forgive this crap anymore.
  6. I agree. And before we sucked it up and started competing, they were on the verge of blowing us out with their #2 and #3 QB's taking all of the snaps last night. On the discipline topic, you could definitely tell that Troy got rattled and frustrated about the way the 2nd half was going for them when we were mounting a comeback. Yes, at the end we blew a chance to win the game. I'm just as pissed about that as you are.
  7. Even though your friends might be geographically challenged, they obviously know nothing about recent Sun Belt football. Troy won 10 games last year, beat Southern Miss on the road, and lost 30-24 to Clemson (The National Champ who absolutely pounded OSWho, if you need to be reminded). http://sunbeltsports.org/standings.aspx?standings=28 But please, continue with your tirade that losing to Troy is a loss to a garbage football program. There's a reason why they were so heavily favored against us. You might want to to a little research before posting next time.
  8. I commented after the UAPB game that it appeared like they were blocking our our pass rush WAY too adequately for having a smaller and less talented football team. We're going to have to do something to get to some QBs down the road. Go back and look at my posts. I didn't see this team getting past .500, and downgraded that to "maybe not even 4 wins". But again, none of that changes the fact that we played pretty self-destructive football last night, and still nearly won as a 17 point underdog on the road.
  9. Once again, we were a 17 point underdog on the road.
  10. Who was a 17 point favorite, playing at home. We played a crappy, self-destructive football game today. But our opponent was not the slouch you seem to believe that they are.
  11. And wasted the LAST ONE we had on 4th Down near midfield near the end of the game, when there was no doubt that we had to punt. Even the 5 yards for Delay of Game would have been just fine with me in order to save that timeout. That could have been a big factor to hand our offense that timeout when they were frantically trying to move the ball in the last minute.
  12. The drives at the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd half that got into the Red Zone turned into a MESS !! With 16 seconds to go in the half, we had a 1st down, and 3 shots at the end zone, which turned into ONE PLAY and a FG attempt because Tommy scrambled around and wasted clock. Then in the 2nd half, he missed Austin on an easy TD throw. The penalties were just crazy momentum killers at many, many critical moments. But at least I figured out the brilliant AJ Offense for the rest of the year. 1) Run a lot of unsuccessful plays that kill drives. 2) Hope that Kwad gets open on a long route at some point.
  13. Maybe this becomes this season's "breakthrough" game, like the trip down south to Louisiana Lafayette a couple of years ago. I don't think this Troy team is anywhere near as potent offensively as some of the Troy teams of the recent past.
  14. After the crap that Kaepernick pulled last year, I'm not surprised that the fans have had enough, especially with the League and the Owners/Coaches allowing it happen. I'm quite pleased to see this, in fact. But, you always have to remember that the weeknight games on the West Coast do have late-arriving crowds. On that Subject: I have to admit that the Browns did an amazing job at damage control before their situation resulted in a mass mutiny.
  15. Ok, I will take your Morning Quiz. So, here's my guesses. It was really hard to tell because the crowd was scattered around much more than a normal home game. There were no sections that actually looked filled in. Very strange. 5,000 - Zips Fans 2,000 - ISU Fans (your band helped boost that number). But we appreciated the number of people who made that long trip. Those are some dedicated fans. 1,000 - Woke up that morning and put on some other shirt color and wandered to Infocision for something to do. (This number includes those who wear all of their Suckeye gear to a Zips game because they insist "It's GameDay for Ohio's school that really matters") Total - 8,000
  16. Simmer down. So, You basically came on here just to tell everyone to stop talking about the actual/paid attendance topic, and mocked our understanding of the facts that determine attendance. Then when someone responds to the contrary to tell you that we already know all of that, and find it to be a legitimate discussion, you think that's condescending and arrogant? But really, that was all pretty mild stuff, up to this post from you, compared to a lot of what I see on here. And I am one of biggest advocates here for keeping things clean and non-personal. If that fairly mild level of comment and rebuttal is that disturbing to you, and caused this kind of reaction, maybe you're right that your participation here may just not be for you. But I hope you continue to support the Zips.
  17. You'd have to believe that it might be 12-0 when it's all said and done. Whether some here will like it or not, the comments from Bowden in the ABJ today seem to point towards the feeling that Tommy is coming along, and just needs more time with a receiving corp that he's still becoming familiar with, due to his late start this summer. No indication at all that it might be Tommy who's not getting the job done? Apparently not. At least publicly. Barring injury, I'm starting to believe that Bowden will be sticking with him through his Sr. year, even with his job on the line. On a related note, the ABJ decided to put this "things are looking up" type of story on the front of the sports page, and used a picture and caption showing/describing Tommy getting sacked against Iowa State. Are you serious ???
  18. Oh, please don't go there. When I see the "blue hairs" with their canes getting assistance to their seats at basketball games, I suddenly feel pretty darn young.
  19. Wow. For two guys who have spent a lot of time here, I can't believe you're both wrong. The 1992 team still holds the "best record" title with a 7-3-1 mark. Bowden's distinction is that he had the first team to reach 8 wins in a season.
  20. That's a good morning laugh. Even if some choose to comment more often about the things they don't agree on, and want to argue about, I think everyone would have to admit that there's a lot that we all actually agree on.
  21. As we all know today, the media can create a public frenzy about anything they choose, and put fuel on a fire that may not have started otherwise. And too many people will believe whatever they are told, without considering any of the other points that some of you guys have mentioned. Football will be the target for now....until the public's interest in the topic fades, and the media moves on to something else that generates paper and magazine sales, and Website visitors. Maybe it will be the impact of Soccer Headers. Maybe it will be the impact on your body as a basketball player from increasing your Vertical Jump by almost a foot in 6 months. Who knows.
  22. Nope. The weather was just warm enough for all of us to wear the gear that we all bought at the Baseball Clearinghouse Sale at the Spring football game.
  23. I completely understand that feeling. I don't know how this is going to shake out, but I didn't rejoice when I heard all of the details. This may be a creative way to bring back the sport, but I don't think it's going to work the way I understand it right now.
  24. Funny you mention this guy as unattainable, when he looks just as clueless running the Cincinnati sideline right now as he did trying to coach Columbus State a few years ago. I'm sure his narrow wins against Austin Peay and the Sweaters of Oxford are going to look pretty impressive, and elevate his untouchable status even higher.
  25. Please note that my reply to that post was prefaced with..."most of us already know what can be counted towards attendance". If anything has become redundant, it's not the discussions about attendance, but the posts by people who decide to educate us about facts we already know about what is regarded as "attendance". In fact, I am directly involved in one of those situations you describe above. I think it's legitimate on a sports forum to point out a huge disparity between actual and "paid attendance", when someone witnesses it. And that's why I commented on it.
