  1. Certainly an appropriate question. But I'll give you the response of every D1 college president: "You go first."
  2. I believe Wayne College is not listed because it is not a 4-year degree-awarding university as are the regional campuses you selected. Perhaps you should compare the graduation rates of the main campuses of OU, Can't and U Akron. OU : 65.3% Can't: 50% Akron: 35.4% Each public university has a different role and model based on the needs of its region. I'm all for a little smack when the facts support it, but this is just silly.
  3. It's just tragic to see young men make such horrible, life-changing decisions. It appears he's from a solid background, so what could drive someone like that to rob a store at gunpoint? A drug habit?
  4. Very true, but KD hasn't even used the standard "We'll leave this up to the legal system" line. He's been very dour about the whole thing, with statements like "One of our brothers has slipped up and he really needs us now." There has been zero optimism in his public comments.
  5. If you've followed KD's reactions to this mess, he has shown no sign of optimism that AA will avoid serious punishment. I assume he knows more re guilt vs. innocence in this case than we do.
  6. Not true. In any respect.
  7. I actually think he'd be a decent NBA coach. From an X's and O's standpoint, he is extremely strong. Now he wouldn't have to worry about recruiting, etc. ... It'll never happen, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a halfway decent choice.
  8. It was possible for one reason: He followed Coleman Crawford.
  9. This takes the bullseye off the Zips and moves it to the Bulls, Flashes and Ohio. I'm not convinced the Bulls can beat Can't, so it's Akron-Can't tomorrow and I'm not sure Can't State can beat Akron twice in a week. The Ohio game - presuming they make it through their weak bracket - is anyone's guess. Where AA's loss really hurts Akron is in Round I of the NCAA, where depth at PG is crucial.
  10. Win the next two games and you'll feel much better. Guaranteed.
  11. If so, we need league wide banner legislation.
  12. I'm not sure Ohio would hang a banner. Maybe but I hope not. Akron is the clear champion for the regular season and I think most serious Ohio fans would agree. We had our chances. Props to the Zips.
  13. I love his response, mostly because GT's copy is often rife with sentence fragments and non-sequiturs. They must not have a copy desk down at the corner of Exchange and High anymore.
  14. Surprised to see AKZipper reappear in this thread given his early-game postings last night. "Stick a fork in us. We're done." Something about Zeke and Treadwell being forced to walk home. That's some intelligent insight there!
  15. Kretzer was interested in Ohio but they didn't have any scholies available. That changed after Groce left and Ohio lost Caris Lavert, now a freshman starting for U of Michigan. Christian had a very solid first recruiting class and there are a couple of talented transfers sitting out now. Whether Ohio will be back big-time next year is uncertain, but they're not going away. The school is investing big bucks in the program, including a planned $18 million "refresh" of the Convo. In any case, Kretzer has an awesome night and would look awfully good in green-and-white. Sigh...
  16. As an Ohio fan, I want to come on here and tell you that this Akron team is the best MAC squad since Can't's Elite 8 team. Ohio played at a very high level in the first half and sporadically in the second half, but Dambrot's team is fearless. Very impressive. And it was one hell of a game to watch from the sidelines and a very electric environment.
  17. I retract my statement about Casa Nueva. I thought that was the place. My apologies.
  18. The same Casa Nueva that was responsible for the death of an elderly woman two years ago due to food poisoning? No thanks. Have a safe trip to Athens, folks. Drive through Marietta rather than going down through W. Va. to Rt. 50 - it'll save you 10 minutes. 2 hours, 50 minutes from Akron if you travel 73 mph.
  19. Most Zips fans probably aren't considering a trip to Athens for Wednesday night's game. But I make these weeknight treks all the time and it's really easy...and worthwhile, given what's at stake. Leave Akron at 3:30 - arrive in your seats no later than 6:40 - guaranteed. Game ends at 9:15 - climb into your warm bed at 12:15 a.m. - guaranteed. Hopefully in the interim you will see an exciting, well-played game in a highly charged atmosphere. Challenge yourselves to make this one trip. You won't be sorry...regardless of the outcome.
  20. Bubba: One OU fan to another - go away. If you don't have something cogent and valuable to add, don't hit "send."
  21. Um, yes they still do it. It's their signature routine. The Ohio lawsuit, by the way, covered cheerleader uniforms. OSU's cheerleader uniforms said "Ohio" rather than "Ohio State" and OU had/has a trademark on that word for purposes of athletic competition. OSU didn't fight it because it was a slam dunk case.
  22. There's lots of talk in Youngstown that he has already been approached about YSU's open presidency. I'd say good riddance. He was worth the $200k in PR terms, but if he's not having any luck raising money with this year's team, then...
  23. Off the top of my head, mid-1980s over Illinois State.
  24. Interesting that you only list Akron as a notable MAC team.
  25. Sorry to have missed this game due to travel but it sounds like Dambrot has the team playing very good basketball. Akron is the clear #1 in the league and I can't see OU being able to go two for two against the Zips over the balance of the year. It'll be a couple of years before Christian has the kind of team he prefers - this OU squad is simply too focused on the 3-pointer.
