Didn’t realize the game was three days ago...

On the topic of venting, I’d like to see the corner boards mirror each other diagonally rather than having them the same at each end zone. For those of us that sit in the end zone, we can see team stats or individual stats, but never both at the same time.

For the past several years Northern Illinois was our Kryptonite. This year we beat them by 15. Go figure... Nice win.

I remember the Leaper. Our school had one in the 80's. Hated it...but it worked.

2017 National Invitation Tournament (NIT)
BirdZip replied to GJGood's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
So even when we win, we have to be negative. Give it a rest already! -
Then log off.

Announcer, referring to Akron:. "With all these transfers, it's like their own Division 1 team."

Which is more damaging to a team's chances of making the tournament: a loss to Akron or a win over Coppin State?

WSJ College Basketball Team Valuations
BirdZip replied to kreed5120's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Dayton has the benefit of being consistently relevant, at least recently. Season ending RPI the last three years is 42-32-21. Taking average RPI over those three years, they rank 21st out of all D1 schools (avg = 31.7). -
I had heard that they had 8 mid-majors and 8 majors initially signed up. One of the majors dropped out and the rest followed 1-by-1, until only 8 mid-majors were left. I heard it on the radio (Cincy station?) so I can't quote a source.

A couple of teams getting looks this year that aren't necessarily consistently in the top but are moving in the right direction: South Dakota State (141-93-31) And I believe I heard the announcer say their leading scorer was a freshman Yale (148-63-44) And for what it's worth... Dayton (42-32-21) George Washington (29-83-65)

With all the talk about beating Top 50 RPI schools, I wanted to see what the recent RPI history has been for the schools being suggested here as desirable opponents... Team (2014 RPI - 2015 RPI - 2016 RPI) (Average RPI last 3 years) Northwestern (123-124-111) (119) Hofstra (279-173-56) (169) Columbia (130-198-130) (153) Georgetown (66-25-105) (65) Boston College (201-161-302) (204) Team (2014 RPI - 2015 RPI - 2016 RPI) (Average RPI last 3 years) Murray State (144-64-170) (126) Morehead St. (139-204-128) (157) Austin Peay (305-319-188) (271) Team (2014 RPI - 2015 RPI - 2016 RPI) (Average RPI last 3 years) Houston (143-239-85) (156) Cincinnati (20-41-45) (35) Xavier (47-30-7) (28) Rice (303-247-279) (276) Northern Kentucky (310-265-296) (290)

Review the season-ending RPI rankings for the last 10 years. Generate a list of which teams finished in the Top 50 the most times and rank them from most to least. You can weight more recent years more heavily if desired. Start a the top of the list, eliminating teams like Duke or Kansas that don't make sense for us to play too often, and schedule as many of those teams as you can. I didn't go through the exercise, but I'm sure those who do this for a living could and come up with a schedule that gives us a good number of opportunities to get Top 50 wins without being too ridiculous. Alternatively, just don't bring back Coppin State.

The Zips have given the Marketing Department a great opportunity for what could be a very lucrative sponsorship deal, especially if the contract is set up to charge each time we mention their name. I can hear it now... "And that's another uncontested layup...brought to you by EZ Pass--official sponsor of the Akron Zips defense." Repaint the lanes with the EZ Pass logo and we're all set.

The point I was making was related to the difference in seed. There's still a few weeks to right the ship. Regardless of how we're playing, I'd rather face a 5 seed than a 3.
-
I saw it. It was irrelevant. I feel relatively confident that our RPI would not be worse had we won.
-
The disappointment for me is what our recent losses will do to our seeding should we eventually win the MAC and make the NCAA tournament. Every loss that we have right now makes it less likely that we will win a game in the NCAA tourney.

I, too, don't have time to read even an abbreviated version of the report. Does the report state anywhere what the pressures of the footballs from the two teams were when tested prior to the start of the game? Does the report state what the actual pressures of the balls were when tested at halftime (how far out of range)? Tom Brady likes footballs on the low side, so they would probably set their footballs right at the bottom of the allowable range. It is therefore reasonable to expect that, on a cold day, the footballs tested later would be out of range. I have no idea what Andrew Luck likes, but if the Colts' footballs started the game at the middle of the range or near the top, they could reasonably still be in the allowable range, and would be expected to be higher than the Patriots'. The fact that Tom Brady did not give up his phone means nothing. He's a mega-celebrity. He's married to a mega-celebrity. TMZ has material for a year if he gives up his phone--trust no-one.

I heard that he was serious about transferring until he learned that we were considering changing our name...

dirtyolcrowe wrote (Post #41): yep!!! who would you rather have Hurley or Dambrot???? and yes...his resume aint that good. outside of mac play and great head to head battles with coppin st or umbc? what are his key wins? temple in NIT???? go ahead! i'm listening (Sorry, quote function doesn't work on my work computer.) You may be listening, but you obviously aren't reading. I am NOT defending Dambrot. I'd support dumping him in a heartbeat if we had a better option. I am frustrated by the stagnancy of the program and its inability to shed its small time feel. I AM asking what Hurley has done to be considered a great coach. The only argument I have seen so far is that he's better than a coach that the poster considers to be unimpressive. If the definition of "great" is "better than crap", then I'm great at almost everything. (Almost.)

dirtyolcrowe said: (Post #30) Akron's NCAA tourney results under KD 2009 Lost to Gonzaga 77-64 2011 Lost to Notre Dame 69-56 2013 Lost to VCU 88-42 WVU 68 Buff 62 Hurley's first appearance they lose by 6. KD is at Akron cause his resume aint that good! You quoted my post in your reply. So, if I understand this right... My Question was: What has Bobby Hurley done to establish himself as a great coach? Your answer: He's better than Keith Dambrot (whose resume ain't that good). ???
-
I guess I'm still not clear what Bobby Hurley has done to establish himself as a great coach other than have the name Bobby Hurley. He took over an underachieving team with great talent. In his first season, he had a 19-10 overall record and 13-5 in the MAC. Took the 3 seed and lost their first game of the MAC tournament. In his second season, he had a 23-10 overall record and 12-6 in the MAC. Took the 2 seed (barely--could easily have been a 5 seed) and won 2 games in the MAC tournament to get to the big dance. They lost their first round NCAA game. It was close, but I believe here on ZN.O we have a term for an almost win--we call it a loss. If Bobby Hurley's name is Joe Fabitz, he's still at Buffalo. As to Buffalo taking this opportunity to get some great coach, again, they went to one tournament and lost. OU went to multiple, including a Sweet 16 run, and got Jim Christian.
