  1. add another one to the list. The C from central michigan was just drafted in the 7th round.
  2. man this guy is very bitter about somthing that is going on in his life ha ha. this is the 2nd post of his that i have read with him bashing someone who is a very good athlete.
  3. The city series always turns out pretty good linebackers. He was named 1st team all city as a linebacker. He is tall and in a college program he would add another 20-30 pound to his frame. You dont always have to be a hitter to play linebacker..... you just have to be able to make the tackle, somthing that he has showed he can do. PS: If he is such a bad QB and throws into double and triple coverage, why was he named the best QB at the OSU camp as a sophomore. They said he had the arm to make all the needed throws and has very good vision of the field..... that was from the OSU coaching staff. Give him an offensive line and some WR ( aside of scott boyd) who were worth a damn and he would be the best QB in this area.
  4. A friend of mine who is real close with the OSU football program informed me today that one of their "star" recruits in this past recruiting class, Eugene Clifford was arrested a few weeks back for possession of drugs (weed). Also about a month ago, former Ohio High school basketball stand out O.J Mayo was arrested for the same thing. My point here is that alot of people (in previous threads) are doubting Carlton Jackson saying he has all these issues an stuff and that they dont think he can be a leader. Look at some other athletes who have been in trouble with the law (Clifford,Mayo,Alex Boone,Troy Smith) who were able to be pretty good leaders. I think that Jackson will be a great leader for us on the field regardless of what has happened with him off the field ( i dont know if he has ever had a legal issue). Just look at how much of a leader he was while back in HS (won the state title).
  5. Sitting here watching the draft and they just did an interview with Braylon Edwards. By the way he is talking, Brady already has the starting job locked up. Now that they have somewhat of a better offensive line will they give Charlie a chance? The line he had before to work with was pathetic. I say they make him earn the spot and not just give it to him because he was a 1st round draft pick.
  6. I agree. Alot of people dont even know akron has a rifle team. The coach is doing a great job and the rifle team has won back to back to back titles..... thats saying somthing. Great job University of Akron for standing behind your athletic teams and keep up the winning ways rifle team.
  7. I forgot about Ryne Robinson from Miami too. He should get drafted as well. 4th round to the detroit lions. 6 MAC players and counting selected.
  8. 4th round, #122 to Dallas Im suprised he dropped that far but it is a good fit for him. he is big enough that he can go in and fight for some playing time right away... now everyone watch for getsy's name to be called.
  9. I agree. I am very suprised that Free is still on the board. He was listed as the 10th best tackle in the whole draft, so someone is going to get themselves a steal with him..... maybe cleveland?
  10. there was 5 of them taken. But regardless that still has got to be a record for the MAC usually its hard to get 5 players in the whole draft, let alone the first 3 rounds. And on top of that, there are a few more MAC players who they said will be drafted so before it is all over there could be up to an maybe more then 10 MAC players drafted. It shows that the conference is starting to make a name for itself as far as producing talented athletes. Listed below are the players taken and a list of players who have the potential to be taken before the draft is over.Already Drafted:1. Joe Staley Central Michigan2. Dan Buzuin Central Michigan3. 11. I knew he would be a saint. I kinda thought they would have taken him with their 58th or 66t h pick because of how much they said they liked him. But they were able to wait a little longer and still get him. Great pick up for them. Congrats andy, your a great guy so you deserve everything you have coming your way.
  12. scratch that.....they just traded away their pick. sgm. who do they have to play at their other guard position? Andruzzi hasent shown much of anything the last year and a half. maybe im wrong but andy would make a better guard then andruzzi. (IMO)
  13. The Saints have showed ALOT of interest in him and they are on the clock....could he be their pick? Just seen his name on the screen, he is the 10th best player available right now in the draft (in any position)
  14. In the Browns defense...1) Cornerback is just as much of an area of need. 2) Wright is a stud player, first round talent. I'm going to give Savage the benefit of the doubt and assume that he wouldn't have traded picks away to draft the guy if they didn't believe his "character issues" wouldn't get in the way. I guess we'll see... yeah true. but i think the OL is more of a need because of the fact that they drafted their "franchise" QB. If they dont beef up that OL he will end up like all the other QB's to play there......hurt and on their back alot.
  15. WOW great thinking Cleveland. You take a guy (eric wright) who has all kinds of legal issue and isnt a very good team player over a guy (andy alleman) who was a great team player and a position you need very much..... im starting to dislike the browns organization more and more.
  16. I talk to him on a pretty regular basis. I have talked to him a few times about getting his highlight film so that I can submit it to a few websites so that he can get some more exposure. He is a great in the class, on the field and most importantly his personality. This is an example of what a great kid he is. During lunch while all the kids are playing basketball on one end of the gym, they are trying to get him to play daily and he says no because he is at the other end teaching the handicapped kids how to shoot, and playing basketball with them. He says hi and talks to everyone no matter if they are the not very well known kids, or if they are the most popular. He is just a great kid and I wish him the best......but whoever does get this kid is getting a hell of a person, and football player.ps: i will call him today and see if he got his higlight film shrunk down so that i can post it on a few websites, and then i will post the link here.
  17. I just seen the Jason Taylor commercial for the first time, and i thought it was very nice. They even said he was skinny and scouts didnt know where he would play. ha ha. but it did show his name enlarged with Akron next to it.
  18. I dont mean this in a bad way at all. But I think we need to win the MAC title a few times before other conferences start to think about letting us join. And with the way the football team has been recruting, if things work out on the field like they do on paper, we will have one of the best teams in the MAC. If we can win a few titles in both basketball and football it will make it alot easier to get into a bigger and more respected conference.
  19. I know alot of you ( maybe none of you) know who Chad Keppler is. He is a local athlete from Akron Ellet. He is 6'4 and around 200-215 LBS. He plays QB and he is pretty good at it. He also plays LB for the Orangemen. This past season he was HM all city (and district) at QB, and 1st team All City at LB. He Has a very good arm and has a nice touch on his long passes, but can also hit short passes too. There are some school showing interest in him at the QB position because of his height and throwing abilities. Alot of other schools are looking at him as a LB because of his knack for getting to the football and because of his size. He can easily put on another 20-30 pounds of muscle in a college weight training program. I know i am not a professional recruiter or anything but i have been pretty close on the prospects i have mentioned so far. I know a great football player when i see one, and this kid would make a great addition to the program.
  20. As I drove thru the city last night. I noticed 3 different billboards (the eletronic one) and they had ad's for the University of Akron saying Thank You to the fans for their support. It was a very good thing to see more ad's on the billboards. Now all Rhoades needs to do is start the whole plan he said he was going to do when eh got here with going into the community and trying to pursue people to get involved and attend the games. Alot of people dont even realise that we have one of the top teams in "mid major" basketball, we have a football team that is on the rise, one of the best soccer programs in the country, one of the best rifle teams ( 3 time defneding champs), and the top track team in the MAC. We need people to inform the community how fortunate we are to have these programs, and get them involved..... after all, we could be like Cant State
  21. hopefully they show it during the draft to help us get a little bit of national exposure
  22. AND IT IS OFFICIAL...... HERE IS THE ARTICLE LISTED AS BREAKING NEWS IN THE BEACON JOURNAL...The University of Akron and its men's basketball coach, Keith Dambrot, have agreed in principle on a new seven-year contract, Athletic Director Mack Rhoades said in a written statement today.Details are being finalized. Under the new deal, Dambrot's salary will rank among the top third of Mid-American Conference coaches, according to the statement.Dambrot has compiled a 68-27 record (38-14 MAC) in three seasons.Today's contract will replace the five-year deal Dambrot signed in late December.``Keith has done an excellent job leading this basketball program,'' Rhoades said. ``He holds a special place in the hearts and minds of the people in this region, and we know this is where he wants to remain.''This season, the Zips won their first MAC East Division championship since 1998. They finished with a 26-7 record.A loss to Miami, 53-52 at the buzzer in the MAC Tournament, ended the season.
  23. I was going through an old college football book that I have and it is from JD's second year as head coach here at Akron. He had to replace 4 starting lineman who had 120 somthing starts between the 4 of them. And if i do remember correctly, the year he had to replace his whole offensive line, we ended up winning the MAC championship and making it to our first ever (D1) bowl game. So lets hope that the offensive line can produce this year like they did before when we had to replace all but 1 starter.and as a side note, they also mentioned that the biggest strength of the team was their special teams........ what a far cry from what we have today.
  24. The New Orleans Saints paid for Andy Alleman to tour their training facility and meet their coaches. So did the Dallas Cowboys.``You meet all these coaches,'' said Alleman, a guard with the University of Akron football team. ``You see their facilities and they tell you that you'll love it here. It's like they are recruiting you.''When having lunch -- ``eating a free sandwich,'' as Alleman called it -- something struck him.``I sometimes wonder if they're forgetting that they have to pick me!'' Alleman said. ``I'm getting excited, talking to all these people, and I'm like, `This is the place to be! Where do I sign?' I'm ready to play here right now.''On Saturday, Alleman might finally know where he'll begin his pro career. He said executives from the Cowboys, New Orleans Saints and Baltimore Ravens have told him to expect to be picked in the second round of the NFL Draft. The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers said the third round was more likely.ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. rates Alleman as the No. 5 guard in the draft, which could put him in the third round. Scouts Inc. rates Alleman as the 108th-best player in the draft, and wrote, ``He could turn into an NFL starter in time... stock is soaring... could be off the board by the end of the first day.''``My goal is the second round, but I just want to be a first-day player,'' Alleman said, meaning picked in the first three rounds. The highest any UA player has been picked is the third round: Charlie Frye (No. 67, Browns, 2005), Jason Taylor (No. 73, Miami Dolphins, 1997) and Dwight Smith (No. 84, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 2000).``Andy is special,'' UA coach J.D. Brookhart said. ``He snuck up on some people because he changed from defense to offense after he transferred to us. He really put himself on the NFL radar screen with how he played at N.C. State and Penn State. He's good and he's going to get better. The pros will love his intensity and focus. He gets his sleep, takes care of his body and really wants to make it.''Alleman has always surprised people. He played three years at North Canton Hoover, then transferred to Massillon for his senior season. The star of that team was future Ohio State quarterback Justin Zwick. Alleman was an all-district selection, but not considered a blue-chip, top-50 college prospect.``It's wasn't like I was some guy sitting on the end of the pine getting no offers,'' he said. ``I had 22 scholarship offers. I went to Pitt, a very good program. But looking back at it, I've always had to fight and claw and battle for everything.''He has no sense of entitlement, and a tremendous attitude of gratitude. He's confident, with a bit of an edge that drives him to prove critics wrong. He was good enough to start in his first two seasons as a defensive end at Pitt. For a variety of reasons, he transferred to Akron, where Brookhart (a former Pitt assistant) had taken over as coach.``We put him on the offensive line because we thought he'd be good on defense but even better as a guard,'' Brookhart said. ``Most offensive lineman are pluggers and plodders. Andy is an athlete. He can really move.''According to Brookhart, the key to Alleman's ascension as a pro prospect was 2004, when he was a redshirt player sitting out a season because he had transferred from another NCAA Division I university.``He went from being a starter at Pitt to being pounded on our scout team,'' Brookhart said. ``Andy was a bit of a hot head, and this really matured him. You could see him preparing himself. He worked and worked and worked. It's really paying off.''Alleman is 6-foot-4, 310 pounds. A Green Bay Packers scout characterized him as a ``Denver-type guard, the kind who can really move.''Sounds like someone the Browns could use.Alleman said he has not visited the Browns. He's not sure if he has heard from them. (``I've talked to so many guys on the phone.'')Nonetheless, they are aware of Alleman. General Manager Phil Savage drafted Frye and signed Can't State's Joshua Cribbs, so he's respectful of Mid-American Conference players.Sometimes, teams don't show much interest in middle-round picks before the draft, not wanting other franchises to know whom they might select.``I never thought I'd go to Akron coming out of high school,'' he said. But I'm glad I did. They didn't give me the position; I had to earn it. But they really worked with me. It was the right fit for me to showcase my talent.''Compare that to Zwick, who started as a redshirt freshman for the Buckeyes, then lost his position to future Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith. It's not a knock on Zwick, but who ever dreamed that coming out of Massillon it would be Alleman who was the possible first-day pro pick while Zwick might not be drafted? As Alleman said: ``Opportunity means so much. You really do need to be in the right place at the right time.''Had Zwick played somewhere else, such as at a MAC school, he could be the Charlie Frye of this draft. Who knows? Like Alleman, Zwick has strong character and a tremendous work ethic. No one dreamed Smith would win the Heisman. There was some question about him even being a quarterback when he enrolled at OSU.Alleman said that, ``In my heart of hearts, I think I could play the defensive line in the pros. But if I had stayed there, I would have been one of those guys sweating it out to get drafted, or maybe trying to get into camp as a free agent.''Changing schools and positions altered all that. Now, he will be picked by a team that has scouted him and virtually guarantees him a roster spot as a rookie.``Whatever team takes me will get a guy who plays hard all four quarters, plays with passion and finishes blocks,'' Alleman said. ``They'll get a guy who plays the game like it should be played.''IM VERY SUPRISED TO SEE THESE SCOUTS SAYING HE IS A SECOND ROUND PICK, BUT I HOPE HE DOES GO THAT EARLY. HE HAS BUSTED HIS BUTT FOR US AND I HOPE IT ALL PAYS OFF FOR HIM IN THE END.
  25. The Key for the browns is drafting some quality players from the O-Line or the D-Line. I can even see if they take Peterson or Johnson in the 1st round. @nd round there will be a pretty dominate tackle out of Texas that should be available. Third round, if alleman is there, you have got to take him. Local Boy coming to play for his "hometown" team and on top of that he has soooo much upside. He probably has more of an upside then any other lineman in the draft considering he has 2 years at the position and has already become one of the best available.
