  1. Having graduated with a minor in English, one of my "pet peeves" concerning the internet is the fact that all too many people completely ignore spelling, grammer, punctuation, etc. I don't beleive that I am being anal retentive or anything, I do beleive that I am making use of the education that I received from the University of Akron. Also this post is not to call ayone names, embarrass anyone, of belittle others, but to make the point it is easier to read well written, properly spelled, gramatically correct posts. you could easily read and understand what i was saying in my post. and as for sgm's comment, shouldnt you be at the OSU board praising the oh so mighty buckeyes?
  2. Hopefully everything gets straightened out. If he did do somthing that is against the NCAA rules, then deal with him and get it over with. If he didnt do anything that violated any rules, leave him alone and let him get on with his playing career.
  3. Holy run-on sentence, batman. And DH, if you do read this, all of Zipsnation is behind you. We need ya, buddy. P.S. Answer your facebook. WOW, here we go degrading people for not using proper grammer and having spelling errors on a Fan based message board. Dude, seriously why would you feel the need to degrade people or belittle them for using improper grammer or because of a spelling error? Does it really make you feel that much better about yourself that you can point out someone else's errors and mistakes? If you ask me it makes you look like an a$$hole. All i was doing was writing to inform people a little bit on the Situation. Thats funny that Harvey hasent responded to your Facebook messages, because he has responded to me each time I have written him. Try not to be such an ass when I am just trying to help keep people updated on somthing.
  4. Yeah he does have alot of issues going on an they have been going on for a while.Lets hope he can get things fixed and rejoin the team for the summer. Hopefully noone on the board starts bad mouthing and degradeing him for missing the spring practices an stuff, because he does come to the board and read the things that are being written about him, and we dont want him to think that we arent behind him, because im sure that everyone like myself thinks this kid is a very good football player and will help out the team alot. Him, Arthur,Hill,Long,Lindsey we could have a very deep WR group.
  5. thanks, hopefully it is. id like to go to another one and see how the team does a week later. I heard that both the QB's did a very good job at the recent practices.
  6. I also heard that it will be Kentucky that we are opening the 2009 season again in our new stadium.but we never know, things can change very quickly. Either way... it doesnt matter who we are playing as long as it is in our NEW stadium. Hopefully everything goes as scheduled and it is done in time for the start of the 09 season.
  7. I have been hearing from other people that there is going to be another scrimmage game this week, set up like the spring game was and that it is open to the public. I have asked a few of the players and they said yeah they are having another scrimmage saturday, but they dont know if it is open to the public, or the time an place? Anyone else hear this, and if you have any information on it, please post it here so that the whole nation would know.thanks.
  8. The offense scored a bit of revenge from the spring game today, going on a streak of about 15 minutes where the passes crisply hit their marks and running backs broke free for first downs. As Carlton Jackson and Sean Hakes moved the ball, the offense’s sidelines looked like a team counting down the seconds before being handed the MAC Championship.Of course, the defensive captain (and craziest man on the field), John Mackey, didn’t like that. He fired up the defense, which began to blitz, and the defense regained its dominance for the remainder of the fourth-to-last spring practice.Notes:Dennis Kennedy continues to look really good. He doesn’t possess LaDanian Tomlinson’s speed, Jerome Bettis’ force or Barry Sanders’ vision, but he does each of those things pretty well. Also notching some impressive runs were Joe McDaniel and Joe Tuzze. Both are superb blockers, but you’re not handing the ball to either on first-and-10. That brings me to my next point…The run blocking has really improved. The holes are wide up the middle and running backs have even more space to the outside. Kennedy’s longest run was off tackle left. Coach J.D. Brookhart said run blocking has been the focus so far in spring. It shows. The downside to that is the pass blocking is subpar, and even inoperable at times. “Pass protection in general (is struggling),” Brookhart said. Defensive highlights include back-to-back pops on the ball carrier by Al-Teric Balaam and Yamari Dixon. Neither of these guys have a problem firing themselves like a rocket right at your helmet. Those consecutive hits swayed the celebration back to the defense’s sideline. It’s sort of a shame the quarterbacks are protected by red jerseys. I really want to see the them run more in the open field. It’s one thing to slide through a hole in the line and hear the whistles blow. It’s another to run the option, knowing a linebacker wants to stick his helmet into your jaw.Speaking of the option, the Zips ran a nifty reverse option today. It didn’t really go anywhere, however, because the defense did not overpursue. From what i was told from a few friends who play for Akron, they felt that C. Jackson was a completely different player from what he has been in any other spring practice or in the spring game. They said he stepped up and took charge of the offense, and ran things like he was a veteran. Glad to see that our QB's are starting to come around, now if we could only work on our pass blocked and Kicking game, we will be all set.
  9. DT NR Jarvis Givins(Gulliver Preparatory School)Miami, FL 6-2/295 Verbal Committed to Akron According to Scout.com, jarvis has enrolled in a prep school and will honor his original committment to the Zips. I looked at Scout today since the new "rankings" came out, and i looked at the DT position, and there are a few guys who look to have good size and speed that I think we should get to and offer early. They say prospects are always a little more partial to the school that offers them first, so lets get on the ball JD.and a side note, another player i previously talked about that we offered to ( tyler hill of cardinal mooney) has since received offers from Pitt, Oklahoma, Syracuse, LSU. Its starting to look more and more like a long shot that we get this kid, but hopefully JD and the others stay in contact with him in case the other schools slip up an dont recruit him as "hard"
  10. it depends where you came in at, i saw they had some up top if you came from upstairs (by the basketball courts) they also had alot of them on tables set up on both ends of the field. The one thing i dont get is when i got there at 3 and asked one of the ladies at the table about the skills competition they said they were not sure where to sign up for it.......these are things that they should know.
  11. The most significant thing that happened, is that our DL came to play. Nate Robinson has slimmed down and it really showed. Cecchetti did a nice job, as well as the other DL. A guy who really impressed me was back up DL Shawn Lemon, This guy really came to play. I believe he had somthing like 6 tackles and maybe a sack.
  12. Hey everyone from the Nation. Lets all pray for the friends and family of those who were killed today in the Virginia Tech shooting. It really hits close to home for me, because i have a few friends who attend the University, one who I have yet to get ahold of after trying to reach him since hearing about the Shooting. I know this has nothing to do with the Zips, but it does effect us all, because somthing like this could happen anywhere and at anytime.
  13. Special teams is JD's baby this year and the spring game left me underwhelmed. If they really plan to use the roll out punt, we will be losing field position with every kick. You have a kicker moving right or left, depending on the kicking leg, which interferes with proper set up and contact. It looks more like a qb kick. Instead of 1 deep back, they have three with the kicker rolling and kicking. That is poor fundamentals for a punter. The snap is enough worry for the punters. I could envision a whiff trying to punt this way. The biggest problem I see with the kicking is the inability to block at the line of scrimmage. There was too much penetration during the scrimmage. Coverage last year was also a big problem. I believe and I'm hoping that the "roll out" punting was just used because of the low ceiling in the field house and not an actual plan to use during the season. Thats why they went to the roll out punt, because the first 2 punts hit the ceiling. They will be kicking normal when the season comes around.
  14. I just now saw that on gozips. that is weird, i dont know why he would do it like that either.
  15. JD's thought On the quarterback play:“The quarterback play has been OK this spring. All three guys have shown glimpses of what they can do. With the way today’s spring game was setup, the rules really did not give a true test of their running ability. Overall, we will continue to work and go from there.” Passing:#7 Carlton Jackson: 4-8, 9 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT#11 Chris Jacquemain: 2-8, 12 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT#13 Sean Hakes: 4-8, 53 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT Rushing:#3 Dennis Kennedy: 8 carries, 16 yards#29 Andre Walker: 12 carries, 35 yards#35 Bryant McMillon: 3 carries, 7 yards#19 Phillip Morris: 4 carries, 24 yards#21 Andrew Johnson: 5 carries, 8 yards#32 Joe Tuzze: 2 carries, 7 yards#33 Joe McDaniel: 2 carries, 7 yards#7 Carlton Jackson: 1 carry, 0 yards#11 Chris Jacquemain: 3 carries, 21 yards#13 Sean Hakes: 2 carries, 18 yards Receiving:#4 Stephon Fuqua: 1 rec, 3 yards#17 Brandon Williams: 1 rec, 9 yards#83 Merce Poindexter: 2 rec, 25 yards#84 Kris Kasparek: 1 rec, 3 yards#85 Matthew Smith: 1 rec, 8 yards#1 Marcus Patterson: 3 rec, 29 yards, 1 TD#21 Andrew Johnson: 1 rec, -3 yards Tackles (Unassisted-Total):Tyrone Washington 6-6, Shawn Lemon 4-6, Amin Kabir 3-4, Doug Williams 3-4, Parris McNeal 3-3, Nate Robinson 2-3, Brandon Anderson 1-3, Jared Cecchetti 2-2, Reggie Corner 2-2, Yamari Dixon 2-2, Eric Lively 2-2, Wayne Cobham 1-2, Rodney Etienne 1-2, Wallace Pendleton 1-2, Andre Jones 1-2, Janaid Abdullah 1-1, Ryan Gibbons 1-1, Evan Laube 1-1, John McCoy 1-1, Levon Morefield 1-1, Chevin Pace 1-1, Tevin Petit-Frere 1-1, Viktor Rajek 1-1, Brion Stokes 1-1, Davanzo Tate 1-1, John Mackey 0-1. 16. I noticed the Central Michigan at home is not listed in your predicted wins. Do you have "LeFevour"? Becaue I believe the Zips defense has "LeCure"! I wasent sure about that game because they have had Akrons Number the last few years. I hope we can win that one also, but i dont know.
  17. 1.) There was a pretty good crowd there.2.) NO the fair was cancelled according to gozips.com3.) The DL didnt look to bad. Robinson slimmed down some and it showed, he looked better then he has in the past.4.) Vince Hill didnt play, he wont be with the team until summer ball.5.) I think we have a chance at winning 8 games this year. Army,Indiana,Can't,Conn,Temple,Buffalo,BG, and Miami(OH)
  18. WOW what is this, bash timmyboy day. just because i said what i felt about the team?
  19. I SAW Alleman at the game today and he is looking bigger then ever....hope he ends up somewhere that will be a contendor, or a team on the rise.
  20. i will try to make sure i remember not to use that anymore, just for you haha. but thanks for pointing that out. Did you go to the game, what did you see that you liked and didnt like?
  21. First..... the DL really shocked me. I seen numerous plays where the DL had such good penetration, that the RB could barely get out of the backfield if at all. I seen Robinson plugging holes, getting off the blocks an making plays. Cechetti was also doing the same. Call me crazy but i dont think our DL will be as bad as alot of people think. Our DB looked pretty solid today , not allowing many big plays.Secondly...... The OL has alot of work to do before they are ready to start the season. I seen some of the OL standing around as the RB is fighting for the extra yards. I think Schepp had a pretty good game, and Jim Holley also had a good game at center. I think that our Tackles have the most work to do.Third....Our kicking game isnt looking to be very much better then it was last year. We missed alot. Domonkos did have a long one later in the game as bleacher bum said, but we must work on the kicking game before the season alot. This will Make or Break a teams season.Fourth.... The QB who stood out to me is Hakes. He had some very nice throws to the receivers, and also had some very nice runs. I was able to talk to jackson after the game, and he is a very nice guy. He has had alot of things go wrong for him in the offseason, from breaking his foot and having to wait to get off crutches, then a week later he gets a concussion an has to miss more. He might be a little bit rusty, but i honestly believe that he will come around and be our starter for the season. And like he said..... it is hard for him to make things happen when all the defensive player has to do is touch his jersey, come game time, it will be ALOT harder for the defender to bring him down because he is such a great scrambler.and lastly..... our WR. Watching this game today made me realise how much we do need harvey in the line up. I seen him walking around at the spring game, and i heard him talking to another player after it was over, and he was saying he will be back, he just has alot of personal issues right now that he has to take care of, when i heard that it was a big breath of relief. We need more of our WR to step up though. I seen at least 3 passes today that hit the WR in the chest or hands, it they dropped it.... You cant have that if you are going to try to make a run at a MAC championship. everyone else let me know if i am correct or how you feel about my thoughts.
  22. when talking to a few of my friends on the team, they said that Nate Robinson, and J. Cecchetti have been playing with a chip on their shoulder, knowing they have alot to prove. They were very impressed with how they have done this spring, and he said the DL wont be as bad as people think. Hopefully their right
  23. i ment he would have probably been the best guard in the draft had he played guard his whole life, and not only the last 2 years.
  24. ha me either. It is pretty bad that a local HS softball team in playing in a tourney down in myrtle beach, and the plain dealer has more coverage of it then the beacon. How can they raise their prices for their paper saying they want to stay in line with the bigger papers such as the plain dealer and new york times, but provide high school level coverage..... its beyond me
  25. I have talked to Niki a few times and she seemed like she was a good person. Im just curious as to what she did to get suspended. Kest has done a very good job at recruiting so far and next year she has a player coming in from nearby Akron StV STM by the name of kara murphy. She can score, and she can score in bunches. I dont know that she will be able to completely fill the shoes of mccoy, she can for sure soften the blow of losing such a talented player. We also have the transfer from Illinois who will be able to play next season, after sitting out this past year due to NCAA transfer rules. Im going to stay optomistic about the outlook for next season.
