  1. good. its well deserved.
  2. Mike Cruz, a highly recruited tight end and brother of Akron’s Jose Cruz, has gone back on his commitment to play at Pitt. His high school coach says the younger Cruz has concerns of playing in a big city. Also playing a part could be the fact that Florida State offered him a scholarship. Cruz recently visited West Virginia, which is another likely destination.I just found this article on Rasors blog. Thanks for the info rasor.
  3. I agree. Speed kills and both of them guys have alot of it. Could we run some 5 WR set and have both of them on the field at the same time? So many different things can be done when you have a QB that can run and WR that can create on their own.
  4. When camp comes around in the summer, All of the players listed above are players who could come in and make an impact right away. Does anything think any of the guys listed will become starters by the start of the season? I think a few of them have a very good chance of coming in and earning playing time. Jake Anderson DT 6-4 278Big body with decent speed for his size. Could come in and help out right away with the "weak" depth that we have at DL.Casey Estrada OL 6-5 285 Already on campus and did a pretty good job in the spring games. Look for him to grow into a very good blocker for us.Miguel Graham DB 5-9 162 Already on campus. Has runs in the low 4.4 in the 40 so thats always a plus when it comes to DB'sVincent Hill WR 5-10 174 Very good speed and a knack for making big plays. Can catch the short route or run past a defender for the long ball. I look for him to help out right away.Zac Kasparek OL 6-6 299 Big kid who is equally good at the pass block and run block. I think he will end up as a redshirt unless injuries hit our OL like they have in the past.Da'von Moore DB 6-0 201 One of the better DB's in Pennsylvania. Has very good size and speed but our Depth at DB will hurt his chances of playing early.Gary Pride ATH 5-9 180 Great speed, and can break one at any given time. Played QB,RB,KR in high school so he is the jack of all trades. Cant wait to have him here.Joe Rash DE 6-2 257 Big kid, and fast for his size. A player JD really likes. He has already talked about him coming in and playing right away.Almondo Sewell LB 6-2 235 Ranked as one of the Top LB in the country. We have decent depth at LB but he could see some playing time right away.Shane Shead DE 6-5 225 Big, Fast and very strong. Could help out on the DL at the End/OLB spot.Paul Simkovich OL 6-4 298 Could come in and get playing time right away. Is good at both run and pass blocking..... Could he be the next Andy Alleman?Aaron Williams LB 6-0 196 Decent size, good speed and a very hard hitter. will make a great addition to the Zips, but i look for him to redshirt due to our depth at LB and DB spot.Bryan Williams DB 6-0 197 This kid is a great athlete, Good size for a CB and safety. The only problem is he is such an athlete you cant decide where to play him...... S,CB,RB?
  5. Below are the prospects that have been offered according to scout.com. 6. 5:00 pm at akron... but i looked at the OSU site and it says that the game is a double header with Akron. The first game starting at 5, and the second game starting at 7. thatd be nice.
  7. The Lady Zips completed the 2 game sweep of the Ohio Bobcats this afternoon by a score of 3-2. The score to yesterdays game was 6-2. Keep up the Great work Zips. The Zips are now 14-19 (5-5 in the MAC) on the year. Their next home game is on Wed. May 2nd against the Ohio State Buckeyes. Lets try to fill the stadium and give the lady Zips supports.
  8. yeah it does look like it might be a weak point. Hopefully the kid from Canton Mckinley will be able to step in and pick up where he left off in HS or one of these kickers will step up and start kicking like they were back in HS when they were money from 45 yards and in.
  9. Below is the article posted on Gozips.com about the scrimmage that was held today. It looked like a few spots that we were weaker in kinda came around a bit compared to last week. I heard that the pass blocking was alot better then it was a week ago, and it showed in the amount of passes we were able to complete. There were 10 sacks during the scrimmage but it was just like last week, if you get a fingernail on the jersey it counted as a sack. Another thing that looked to be alot stronger was the WR group. There was only 7 passes dropped. Compared to all the dropped passes we had last week, that is a huge improvement. Our group of running backs did a decent job, just as they did last week. The guy who has come out of nowhere to suprise me this spring has been Phillip Morris. 8 rushes for 52 yards (6.5 avg) today. During todays scrimmage there were alot more throws to the Tight Ends. This is somthing that I think will really help us come the start of the season, having 4 TE who can catch and run with the ball. And Finally.......the kicking! Both kickers were 50% (if you dont count the one block against Matt) during the scrimmage with Matt Domonkos hitting a 52 yarder and missing a 51 yarder. Igor Iveljic was good from 47 yards and 37 yards but missed on a 53 yard and 48 yard kick.GoZips.com:The University of Akron football squad concluded its 2007 spring drills with a one-and-a-half hour, controlled scrimmage Saturday morning at Schrank Field. Both the offense and defense had stretches of effective play. The Zip quarterbacks combined to complete 20-of-27 passes for 239 yards with three touchdowns and just one interception. Specifically, Chris Jacquemain was 11-of-14 for 108 yards and two scores, Carlton Jackson was 4-of-5 for 85 yards and a TD and Sean Hakes was 5-of-8 for 46 yards. However, the defense came up with 19 tackles for losses (like the spring game the quarterbacks were “tackled” when touched), a safety, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery for a TD and a blocked field goal. The scripted scrimmage started with the offense backed up on its own one and its goal was to get a first down, which is did on one of its four attempts thanks to a nine-yard run by Phillip Morris and a scramble for the first by Jackson. However, on the second drive of the day, Parris McNeal broke through to record a safety. The next six drives came with the offense starting at its own 35. The offense struggled early, only getting one first down on its first four drives. On the eighth drive of the day, Jacquemain moved the team down field on the strength on an 11-yard completion to Marcus Patterson and a 24-yard run by Morris. However, McNeal forced a fumble, which Viktor Rajek recovered. The drive of this series saw Jackson complete passes to Brian Flaherty and Patterson, getting the Zips down to the 10. However, the drive stalled and the ensuing field gold attempt was blocked by Rajek.Drives 11-13 had the ball placed on the 50. After a three-and-out, Hakes had a 20-yard pass to Merce Poindexter, which set up a 47-yard field goal by Igor Iveljic. The offense then got into the endzone on its next drive. Jacquemain completed a pass to Jose Cruz, got two big plays from Joe Tuzze and completed a short pass to Alphonso Owen, which resulted in a 15-yard gain. Jacquemain and Owen hooked up once again for a five-yard TD. A 15-yard penalty for celebration turned the extra point into a 35-yard kick, which Matt Domonkos converted. The first half of the scrimmage ended with three drives starting just 35 yards from the endzone. The first set of downs saw a bad exchange on a hand off, which Al-Teric Balaam scooped up and returned 58 yards for a touchdown. The next drive saw the defense record two sacks and a pass breakup by Davanzo Tate, forcing a 53-yard field goal that would come up short. The final drive of the first half ended with Jacquemain hitting Patterson for a 23-yard TD and Domonkos tacking on the PAT.The second half, which was much shorter than the first, saw the offense take the ball on its own 35 for three drives. Hakes led the team down field, after impressive runs by Andre Walker and Joe McDaniel. However, Yamari Dixon picked off a pass to end the drive. The next set of downs had a big play from the start getting the offense on track. Jackson completed a pass to Richard Sandilands and Tuzze had a tough, 10-yard run to get to the 28. Jackson followed with a 28-yard TD pass down the right sideline to Owen with Iveljic added the PAT. Jacquemain then moved his squad to the 39, but a penalty and some tackles for losses would eventually force a 56-yard field goal attempt. While the kick was not good, a defensive penalty allowed a second try, this time from 52 yards, which Domonkos converted. The last four drives had the offense start just 25 yards away from paydirt. The defense came up with a big sack for force a 48-yard field goal, which missed. The defense looked to come up big on the second drive with an interception. However, a penalty gave the offense new life, responding with a 29-yard TD run by Walker and Domonkos adding the PAT. The defense did end the third drive with a Ray Siler pass breakup. The ensuing 37 yard field goal by Iveljic was good. The scrimmage came to a close with the offense being forced to kick a 51-yarder, which came up short, after a penalty and a sack. Quotes from Akron head coach J.D. Brookhart:Opening Statement:“We ended spring ball really well. Today we shut down the defense early and we able to capitalize on a few deep balls. The offense threw the ball pretty well throughout the afternoon. Overall, we have improved a lot from the first day to now.” On the comparison of the defense to the offense:“The defense has a bit of an advantage with their maturity level being higher than that of the offense. The offense just needs to develop a little bit of team chemistry. We went through the same problem two years ago and by game four, everything was just fine.” On John Mackey:“John is a major part of our team not just on the field, but off the field as well. He is a huge team leader and everyone looks up to him. I challenged him to push everything to the next level this spring and he has adjusted to the new responsibilities real well.” On the other leaders of the team:“Mike Schepp, Brion Stokes, Kevin Grant, Yamari Dixon, Dennis Kennedy, Kris Kasparek and Jabari Arthur are team leaders. Arthur and Kennedy are very vocal and Stokes stepped it up today. We have a lot of leaders on this team ready to step up at any given time.” RUSHING:Andre Walker 12-36, 1 TD; Phillip Morris 8-52; Joe McDaniel 7-28; Joe Tuzze 5-27; Carlton Jackson 5-5; Chris Jacquemain 4- -7; Sean Hakes 3- -3. 10. yeah. we had a thread like a month ago about him. He is a very good kicker and could compete right away for the starting kicking spot. I know i have said it before, but The kick i saw him kick (over 40 yds) into the wind at Can't's Dix stadium against brunswick in this years was the 2nd best kick i have ever seen in person........ the first best kick was david abdul from massillion when he kicked a 62 yarder against akron garfield his senior year. That guy was amazing......to bad he was a bust in college because of a number of issues. blowing up your kicking leg after falling asleep at the wheel and wrecking your car, i suppose, could be seen as an issue. Not only did he fall asleep at the wheel on Route 224 in Akron, wreck and ruin his kicking leg. But he was going the wrong way on the expressway when he did this.and also in June of 2006 while on summer break from the University of Pittsburgh, David had to get emergency Open heart surgury to correct a congenital problem at the Cleveland Clinic. This is a perfect example of a great prospect in HS who just didnt have much luck in the college ranks.
  11. This man speaks the truth...the potential in Hill may be there but it is not likely going to happen the right away. Harvey did it for us last year.
  12. yeah. we had a thread like a month ago about him. He is a very good kicker and could compete right away for the starting kicking spot. 13. I looked him up on a few different recruiting sites. He was ranked as a "3 star" prospect on all of the pages. None of the pages had Akron under the list of schools that offered him either, but they could have just overlooked that they did offer.
  14. Missing weapon: Army might not have to worry about a formidable deep threat when it plays the Zips. Are they serious. Did they not look at the recruits we signed this year? I think Hill will make a bigger impact then people think. I am going to be happy to see Harvey run out onto the field with the Team up at Browns stadium. We are deeper at the WR position then they give us creditfor. Arthur is good for 10-20 yards each time he makes a grab. Long has the ability to go deep on any given play, as well as Lindsey. Add Harvey to the mix and things are looking very positive for us. When it is all said and done, I think we beat Army by a pretty good amount, and get some of our reserves PT before out "Big" game the following week against the Buckeyes.
  15. that is pretty messed up to assume it was a MAC school. and it is also pretty messed up that people would be using a massacre like this to try to better themselves.
  16. well he could be the hidden gem just like his brother was. Id say offer him!
  17. VT Remembrance Day Support The Victims This Friday I would like to ask everyone, to show their support for all the victims, friends, and family involved in the tragedy at Virginia Tech. ITheir asking students across the United States to wear Chicago Maroon and Burnt Orange on Friday April 20, 2007. It would be pretty amazing to see a majority of the students on campuses across the country unite to show their support and let the people of Virginia Tech know that they are in our hearts and prayers.
  18. very well said... i couldnt agree more
  19. When was the last time we had kids wanting to walk on at akron and not go somewhere else where they could get a scholarship? This is a great problem to have., but its unfortunate for the kids who dont make it.also dont forget to throw in the Moss kid from Akron Copley. He is a preferred walk on for the Zips next year also. That would put us at 20 kids on the roster( D.roberts Included)....... Looks like alot of these kids wont be with the team by the start of next years season.
  20. well i didnt know that everything written on this board has to be 100% perfect. I thought it was just a message board for Zips fans to communicate with each other on different threads. Next time all you have to do is read the thread, not make all the cocky type comments about someone's errors. Ive been told that my message in my post was pretty clear as to what i was saying. I wasent trying to be an ass when i replied to your comment I was just providing information that I know is accurate thats all. I mean if everything written on this board has to be 100% proper without any errors, i will just not post information anyone if you would prefer.
  21. your correct. The university could take it through eminent domain because it is a state university. That would be smart on the part of the university to offer them land on top of what they would offer for the property.
  22. I agree. Hopefully we will be pretty deep at the WR position when the season starts. All of our WR have the ability to change the outcome of a game, and with the addition of Hill to the lineup it gives us another deep threat.
  23. Couldnt the City of Akron take it through eminent domain, and then sell it back to the University. I know the law's changed last year saying what a city could and could not take, but i am not 100 % as to what they were changed to. Im going to look and find out how the laws were changed. I post what it says when i find it.
  24. when is that article from? Because on his clip on rivals. he was talking alot of good things about Akron. He mentioned OSU and them others schools a few times but he was really talking up the Zips and what they are doing with the program. I would say the chances are not the best, but there not the worst that he will be a zip. Hopefully JD an the staff doesnt back off of recruiting him because he is getting these other offers.
