They sure did cover the Bucknuts though.

Probably because they suck the life out of just about every MAC school in Ohio.

I sent my email. You all should do the same.

Can we PLEASE kick Penn State's A$$ Next Year?
zipsbandman replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
If I see some encouraging things from this coming season, I think we may see our first Big Ten win in Happy Valley. Penn State is a dormant program at the moment, and I think we can come out big while they are at their weakest. With the amount of talent that we are bringing in and a more experienced squad, I think it will happen. We need to first build momentum this season. -
UA Athletics License Plate Logo

I'm screwed: ZIPSFAN is 7 letters and the plate only allows for 6. Try ZIPFAN -
The problem is I don't think our team is ready for us to be taking risks like this. We are not to the point where we are annual contenders in the MAC. We have a young and inexperienced football team and may very well have a real down season next year, and that does not spell good things for this game. You have to take these things into consideration when making moves like this. I would have rather seen us pack the house against Can't in the beginning of the season and had no ESPN. Let's first worry about building a football team, then we can worry about exposing it once we have a team to expose.

I do not like this schedule. The Can't game on ESPN could turn out to be a disaster if both teams are out of it. I'm hoping the 1:00 is a misprint. Seeing an empty bowl on national tv is not something I would consider good publicity. I do like that we are challenging ourselves with the scheduiling, meaning no more Howards or Cal Polys. But I agree that there should be a bye in there somewhere. We beat Marshall coming off a bye. At least we can showcase a little of this on ESPN.

Spring Football - What's the deal?
zipsbandman replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yea, I understand. How are you supposed to sell season tickets when the great new head coach tells you that your team will suck. I just wish I could get a better read on how the team will come out this year. Who's going to the spring game? I can't make it but I'm hoping to get some good info here. Coming from JD when asked about the progress of spring ball: "Not good". -
Akron #1 Team In Nation To Be Left Out Again
zipsbandman replied to mollautt's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Winning will do that for you. That will be Akron in a few years. -
Where did you get that info from?
-
Hopefully he would end up on the winning side for once.

I can tell you exactly why Fuqua has grades issues. He is an engineering major. But where is Donte Cloud?

Akron wins versus WMU, and Akron gets a bid. Nothing fancy there. Man, this really blows, though. Has anyone noticed the trend? Toledo, Miami, BG, Marshall, and NIU all go Bowling. Can't, Miami, Buffalo, WMU, OU, all see postseason bball. That's nine different MAC teams seeing postseason play and we, of course, are one of the four sitting at home. Buffalo has a horrible football team, yet they are really good in basketball. OU's football season was badenough to get their coach fired, but then they win the MAC tournament in bball. NIU is less than stellar in hoops, yet their football team is bowl caliber. We, on the other hand, do well enough in each sport only to get our hopes up so they could get dashed when we play meaningful games. Does anyone think that that might be the reason that people don't come to games? I'll just blame it on Can't because I feel like it.

What a heartbreaker! We had it....we really had it. I'm sick of getting my hopes up only to see us falter when it counts. Making it to tomorrow would have probably got us the NIT bid. Just think of the fun we would have had with a 9:00 game in the semifinals. Buffalo's student section was flat out nuts, and I think we really would have had a great atmosphere. Oh well, I guess we will be doing what we do best...sit at home. It was a good game anyway, a classic battle in a MAC tournament. It was a good season anyway. We just lacked the talent and experience. I'm not going to talk about next year because I'm sick of next year. That seems to be the mentality with the Cleveland teams too. Can't still sucks.

 You don't want to get rid of the band, or the cheerleaders for that matter. Do that, and you just about eliminate half of the noise and cheering in the JAR. If you think the JAR is dead now, it would be even worse without the spirit groups. All the rowdy students sit on the band side because we are usually doing all the heckling and yelling. If you think we suck, then you obviously have not heard Can't's band. I do agree that these cheers they make us do are the cheesiest. They really make us look like fruitcakes.

Way to bounce back after the Buffalo debacle. Let's get some wins in Cleveland. I love this quote from Romeo on advancing in the tournament: On advancing Cleveland... "I am tired of hearing about Cleveland. That is just the second game of the tournament. Who cares, we are just traveling up 77. This should be expected, not exciting. Everyone is going home and packing their bags. Honestly, who cares. We should have been there last year. We should not have played tonight. We should have already been in Cleveland. That makes this game frustrating." This team knows it can do some damage in this tourney, and I am glad to see them up for next game. We have an important game ahead of us, one that will have a major impact in a possible NIT bid. Let's win it. Also, the attendance at the EMU game was horrible. 1,500? You got to be kidding me. There are only 1500 college bball fans in the Akron area? People need to wake up. Nice job to the people who were actually at the game to give our team a nice send off.

Are MAC Tourney Games Televised Nationally?
zipsbandman replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
If the zips win on Monday, then they would face Western Michigan in Cleveland on the neutral court. -
I must say that the game yesterday was not the prettiest we've seen. But I have to give some props to my guys in the band. Way to get in Hamilton's head with the chants: skeletor...skeletor. And of course...Mr. Clean...Mr. Clean. Then the guy can't land one free throw once we start heckling. I was cracking up!

Go zips! Let's claim supremecy over Can't in their marquee sport tomorrow.
-
I can't really vote on this until the bball regular season is done. If KD and the gang can finish strong with these last four games, then he has my vote. I may even make my decision if the zips beat J Crew U.

Since all of the talk on this board has involved placing the stadium on the site of Brown Street residence halls, this might add some insight on the timing of the project. Just the other day, students were registering for on campus housing for the fall semester. To my suprise, I saw that they were still signing up students for Brown Street residence halls. I guess that could mean that there is still quite some time before anything happens?

I think we will sell out on Wednesday. The reason I think so is because over 4k showed up to see us play a little known team in noncoference action. Playing first placed Miami for a grip on the east will definitely bring the fans back, along with the ones from the Can't game. I think everybody is sick of Miami spoiling our fun and would love to see a zips win on Wednesday.

The JAR better be packed when the sweaters come on Wednesday.

Seriously though, Can't really brought their A game tonight. They are going to be a team to watch come tourney time. The loss was a heartbreaker, and I'm sure Dambrot was about ready to get Lebron suited up out there. Boy did I miss Jeremiah Wood in the inside tonight. I have not looked at the stats yet, but it looked like Can't controlled the boards pretty much throughout the game. Shots were not falling for our shooters, and it made for a tough night. Once again, the team fought to the end, and that's all we really can ask for. I say we take it out on Toledo now.
