DJ doing a decent job so far. Pick was bad, but good decisions in general. Not shocked to see the sack on 3rd and long. This offense is dreadful in this situations. We’ll see what happens when IU starts blitzing as the game goes on. Seems once teams realize that’s all they need to do, the game is over. Too. Many. Flag. Details matter.

Looked like DJ should’ve hit George on the drag on first down. Terrible decision there though.
-
Radio broadcast really stretching out the pre game. Sounds like the teams just took the field.

Rough showing in some noncon games today. In the league, Toledo lost their QB against WMU but had a great 2nd half and won big. Ohio absolutely hammering BG on the road.

What a great day of college football! Love these fall Saturdays, hopefully this is one we’ll never forget. Go Zips!

Since 2006 (except for the 2020 season), a MAC team has beaten a Big Ten team every year. Barring a matchup in a bowl game this year, Akron is the MAC's last shot for the regular season in 2023. I haven't had a ton of time to look into Indiana, but I do know that they are in a similar spot to Akron. Offensive potential, decent defense, lackluster results so far. Odds are, Indiana will find a way to win this game by a couple of scores. But, if Joe & Co. sprinkled some magic dust over this past week and fixed the offense, the Hoosiers may be on upset alert. Indiana is wearing fancy special black uniforms, Tom Allen is on the hot seat, they're expecting to coast in prime time. What better time to pick up the next signature Moorhead win? It would be so sweet, especially going into a pair of winnable home MAC games. But, let's start with finding the end zone on offense and getting off the field quickly on defense. Let's Go Zips!

game 8 - Notre Dame comes to Cub Cadet Field
LoyalZIP replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Very much a coulda-woulda-shoulda. Tough break tonight. Some good energy in the stadium which was a nice surprise. -
All that come to mind are the Smigel shoulda-been-game-winner at WMU and apparently Perez’ career long is 42 but I don’t recall when that was. That is it.

We’ll be onto “Joe’s Next Endeavor” before you know it on good ol’ ZN.o

The MAC is still in need of its annual Big 10 win. And, we could do Indiana fans a favor in making Tom Allen's seat even hotter.

This week's advanced box score: https://collegefootballdata.com/boxscore/401520228 Unfortunately, what jumps off the page is Akron's success with scoring opportunities. It didn't feel like it while watching, but Akron got the ball inside the Kentucky 40 just as many times as UK got it inside Akron's 40. Penalties, drops, missed kicks, and we leave Lexington with 3 points. That is what bad football teams do, and that's why my concern is growing. Last year, coach had DJ slinging it 10-15 yards down the field on sideline comebacks all game long. Long, difficult, strong throws and the likes of SJL and DG and AA would bring them down and help us move the ball. Now, in addition to not being able to finish, it's a battle to just get 5-6 yards on a pass play. I question either QBs ability to make throws down field and make good/quick decisions. Both of them look so fragile and scared. With that said, I simply do not understand why Anderson and Lingard aren't used more. Those guys should get twice as many touches per game. They're easy to get the ball to, and both of them run hard and strong. We can't waste their time with Akron. Defensively, I was impressed again. The most glaring error was the TD before the half, granted that was a hell of a pitch and catch. And the long TD off the shoulda been sack was bad, but unfortunately these guys still have trouble finishing. A MAC QB/RB give up on that play, not Kentucky. Special teams--not acceptable. Bobby Golden has played like 7 games in an Akron uniform and he's got to have the UA record for most muffed punts in a career. And we don't have a kicker. If we don't get the ball inside the 25, we will not score any points. Frustration is the word of the season so far. The last God knows how many seasons, it's been apathy. Now, there are very reasonable expectations of scoring points and forcing turnovers, and they have not delivered. After a quarter of the season, I have been frustrated and upset after each game. Not good. I'm not even sure what direction they can go to make something happen at this point.

Everyone on this board is frustrated. And everyone has been noting for 3 weeks how the offensive performance, specifically QB play, is entirely unacceptable. In a time where the ABJ and all other local media has given up on covering the team, I think ZN is fortunate to have as many people as it does that make thoughtful posts week after week.

After 4 weeks, the cream is beginning to rise. Toledo, Ohio, Miami all with quality nonconference wins thus far. EMU at 2-1 as well, though they have looked less impressive. The rest is a crapshoot.
-
RedHawks do it!!! Huge win. The MAC flies the flag twice today.
-
Miami and Cincy to OT. Miami hasn’t beaten them since 2006 I believe.
-
All you have to do is imagine this is year 7 of Moorhead and then it feels a lot more like a Bowden game
-
Seriously, be careful what you wish for 🤣

I can assure you if you’re an Akron football fan you have seen much much worse. I hate that I can say that.
-
Very fair. I get way too negative during games myself, just out of being beaten to death with crap. I guess most Akron fans have expected so much more from the offense in particular, but unfortunately it appears it has simply regressed. Mostly because of QB play. And I just don’t get why the RBs aren’t involved more. Tonight, the offense has been dumbed down a ton and has had its moments because of it. Maybe it’s a good sign for the future, but we’re a quarter of the way thru the season and they can’t seem to figure things out. With that said, I speak ad nauseum about how the defense has failed to hold up its end of the deal after a year of Moorhead. That is no longer the case. Some mistakes today, no doubt. But they’re putting themselves in position to create turnovers. A big step forward. Big opportunity next week. Indiana is not as good as Kentucky.

Yeah, all very avoidable things. Really sucks.

Adams drop Ineligible man downfield Long 3rd and goal TD Failing to finish the sack How different is this game if just two of those go the other way?
