  1. Edit: wrong thread
  2. I personally feel it’s an okay hire. He’s familiar with the MAC, has been on a winning MAC program. But WMU is a lot different than Kent. WMU is paying their head coach $850k. Kent is going to pay this guy a little more than half that. Even back when Fleck was at WMU, their pedigree was pretty close to what it is now. He’s also never been a head coach, or even a coordinator. I personally believe he will do an okay job, but I expect a learning curve.
  3. Another thing to lighten your CFB day: Kent State is going on 8 days without a coach. No names have even leaked as candidates.
  4. None, because he hasn't committed. Has an offer though. RB Cooper committed to Ball State.
  5. Yes, so tomorrow + 1 week
  6. Coach Leach has passed. Unbelievably sad day for college football. Mississippi State job is now unfortunately open.
  7. Biros helps Syracuse win it all. They take the title 7-6 in Penalties over Indiana.
  8. Incredible first half, awful second half. Overall, pretty pleased outside of a 10 minute stretch. Onto Wright State.
  9. No Clarke today. Zips are something like 1-6 ATS this year. -14 today.
  10. George also stated that excessive sacks caused DJI’s injury. His shoulder was busted from reaching for the goal line. Also stated that RB should be a target for the TP due to the overall rushing numbers. Did he actually watch any Akron football this year?
  11. If I had to guess, this is a good example of the Arth Talent Gap at work. Norrils was much better in a far worse RB room. Same reason Anthony Williams barely saw the field either at RB or WR.
  12. Miss. St. RB. Read the whole post! Zips haven't offered yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if they do. Committed to Joe's Bulldogs, recruited by Zip RB coach Terry Richardson according to 247. Had 773 all-purpose yards this year. Caught 48 passes out of the backfield this year, so perhaps Joe would recruit him as a utility pass catcher? Followed on Twitter by Joe, Allen Tucker (ST coach, prev at MSU), and coach Fessler.
  13. Shoutout to @catdaddyp for taking a great message board and elevating it to the next level. Hopefully more Zips fans can find ZN.o as a place to not only discuss Akron athletics, but to learn and get coverage. Can’t get this stuff anywhere else on the internet. Thank you for all you do!
  14. Bashing Irons for his record as a starter, and immediately going to “JU would be 2-0 if if if if” as if that hasn’t been the case in every game no matter who is on the field.
  15. Yes, no Hoban kids. Donovan played a bit at Hawken this year. His oldest son being at Grove City College had a lot to do with the decision to make the move to Akron. He absolutely loves being close to him, and going to see him play. On the last Zips Live Joe appeared on, he said something along the lines of "there's not enough commas and zeroes in the world more valuable than getting to watch them play"
  16. Norrils to the portal according to 247
  17. Schlee, Cephas, Cooper now all in the portal.
  18. But that doesn’t matter, the scope isn’t a national scope when it comes to that stuff. The scope is Colorado, their AD, their boosters. Not Jeff in Pensacola, FL. Barring Arthian numbers as the OC at Colorado, he will have many options by the time he’s done there. And I’d be surprised to see him around for more than a year or two. He wants a big job, and this is the easiest path to that at this moment. He’s not in it for the long haul, if this Prime thing isn’t working out 5 years from now, I would be shocked if he’s even still in the picture. This is a gap resume builder because you can only go so far at Kent State. Lewis sees himself as the offensive coordinator of Deion Sanders’ P5 program. He isn’t there to be the OC of the Colorado Buffaloes.
  19. 1. Less pressure than being the head coach at Colorado, or any P5 job for that matter 2. If it goes poorly, he will get canned and still be able to pick up a fair share of G5 HC and P5 OC jobs 3. Going 8-4 at Kent State is insanely more difficult than being a decent P5 OC, especially when you will have almost no spotlight on you due to your boss being Deion He's far more likely to get stuck in the mud and fired into irrelevancy at Kent State than he is to get a great P5 HC job by staying at Kent State more than the 5 years he has. Colorado won't put the pressure on Deion and his staff that most P5 jobs would. That's why plenty of good, young coaches wouldn't touch Nebraska or Auburn with a 15' pole. Doug Martin was at Kent for 7 years and had one .500 season, the rest pretty meh. They just let his contract fizzle out and replaced him. Bowden was at Akron for 7 years, had one season with more wins than losses, won a bowl game, and won the division once, and ran his course. Lewis brought back a very, very talented roster and scratched and clawed to 5-7, a year after dominating the east and going to Detroit. After 5 years, there's definitely more in the tank than the other two guys mentioned, but at one of the worst jobs in the country, like Kent, you have to get out when the time is right. I would imagine playing in an empty high school game and getting run off the field by Ball State and EMU will do that to you. I'll be the first to criticize any move a Kent coach makes. It was pretty obvious that Hazell was going to be pretty bad at Purdue. I knew after 2 years that Haynes would be straight up awful. This is a great move for Lewis, I see it as a perfect fit.
  20. The Hazell move came after a 11-1, 8-0 season for Kent. Jon Heacock was their DC (been one of the best in FBS since 2017), Marcus Freeman was on staff, they had an old and smart QB and a lightning fast RB. They didn't recruit a lot of the guys on that team, but they hit the lottery and had an insane year. Even so, Purdue was the best job he could get. All this to say, if 2020 isn't a COVID year, if they don't get blown out by NIU in Detroit, if they don't go 5-7 this year in a bad MAC, Lewis would have had his pick of the litter. Unfortunately for Kent, it's such a football black hole that he had no interest in sticking around to try to get that bigger job, so now is the right time to jump ship. And he landed in about as good a spot as he possibly could have.
  21. Has Sincere Carry ever shot >35% in a big game? Genuine question.
  22. Disaster avoided and sanity prevails. Zags remembered they were the Zags. Carry isn’t very good in these big time games.
  23. Flashes up 4 at the final media. 68-game Zags home win streak on the line. Yeah, they’re for real. Zips have a big hill to climb this year.
  24. Kent is hanging around with Gonzaga at the break. Zags shoot like the Zips from the perimeter and free throw line.
