Freeman has been a liability on offense. Holy smokes.
-
Freeman and X have been *awful*

John’s Next Endeavor time?!?!?!?

Zips could use some help from KD’s buddy sports psychologist Dr. Joe Carr. How can these guys keep allegedly shooting so well in practice but can’t make anything in a game? It’s makes no sense to me, it’s a trend.

Illegal screens for days on Marshall

Yuck. Plenty of good looks have gone to waste. Defense got much better the last 10 minutes but a pretty unacceptable effort shooting the ball from everyone.

Imagine if Tribble could finish around the basket like Taylor

Audio issues are nice comic relief 😂

The Zips went to Huntington in the first championship year in 2019 and played a phenomenal game for 40 minutes. X had one of his better performances in his lone year as a Zip. Would love to see a similar breakout game for Sammy Hunter, but this one should be a dog fight between conflicting styles of play. Go Zips!

Agreed on Shocky. While Adams may be the most talented and had the most explosive numbers, I feel Shocky was the most reliable receiver on the team, and definitely a top 5 most reliable receiver in the league. That's not what these lists are about, though. Numbers will always win for positions like that.

I read the McMurphy tweet as I was waking up this morning and thought I was still asleep and dreaming. -
That’s actually the only team to beat Marshall this year. They’re new to D1 and seem to be fitting in just fine. Though your assessment of BG remains spot on. Of course their best team over the last 15 years comes when UB had their run. Tough break.

Trimble kept us alive against them last year with X a no-show offensively. Funny enough, Freeman got that huge and-1 put-back on a missed layup by X in crunch time. Love this schedule, galvanizing these guys.

They are at the level of a top half MAC team. Another tough opponent, a win would be fantastic.

Zips pick up their first road win of the year at NKU. Now 4-1!

Attached is a visual representation of Akron’s all-time record for football since 1973. The Zips were comfortably >.500 all-time, but have plummeted quite a bit. They’ve still won about 10% more than Kent has all-time, which is hilarious. -

I was expecting this to come next year. Wow. People see the record and the bowl games, but I completely understand this move. WMU has a ton of resources post-Fleck and just recently got a massive anonymous donation of tens of millions for athletics, hundreds of millions for the rest of the university. Their boosters were going to damn near match Fleck's salary at Minnesota! But even with tremendously talented teams the last 6 seasons, they've never even made it to Detroit. They went 4-4 in the west in 2021 with the most talented offense in the league, and nearly lost to Oscar Arth's Akron Zips, who put up 40 in the game. This year, the starting QB at the beginning of the year threw like 6 picks against Pitt, and they couldn't overcome not having a QB. Lester did okay, and is a fantastic guy, but it was time to move on. -
Lines came out yesterday evening. Zips +13.5

Seems to me that a lot of G5 2019 hires were pretty disastrous. Arth, Hammock, Loeffler, McElwain on the list from the MAC. We’re entering the window where we know whether or not they were good hires. Arth is done and the other three have warm seats. https://athlonsports.com/.amp/college-football/grading-college-footballs-first-year-coaching-hires-2019 -
This week's advanced box score: https://collegefootballdata.com/boxscore/401416652 DOMINATION! The guys one the sideline and in the booth all really deserved that. I wasn't surprised to see them win, like Joe said, but I was surprised to see them take over that game and dominate. The key to this? Limiting mistakes in the margins. Punt return game was still ugly at times. They didn't play a perfect game overall, but were pretty close. When JU threw the early pick to go along with a bad first drive, it felt like deja vu. But the defense kept them in it, as they should have against that QB, and the offense shook off the rust and made some plays. That was very cool to see. I'm definitely not sold on JU as QB1 heading into next year. Not even close as a matter of fact. He was just fine yesterday and obviously put up good numbers and won the game. But he was bailed out by some great plays made by the receivers, and just didn't impress me with his arm. With that said, performances like this give me a lot more faith in the QB depth as a whole. He redeemed himself and is not Alex Ramart, thank heavens! If only this could've been a home game, the Zip die hards deserved to see this in person! Funny enough, Akron's 3 MAC wins since the start of 2019 have come by an average of 25 points, with the only home win coming in an empty COVID stadium. Maybe next year we'll get to see the Zips dominate a team in person. This was the first win for the program in Dekalb since 1996! And the first win over NIU since some game in December of 2005, anyone know anything about that game?? 😂 I said this after the Miami game this year, which felt all too Arthy to all of us: While not closing out the year with the historic win, we still picked it up. AND we can play spoiler at Buffalo next week! I can't say enough how much more enjoyable this season has been to watch as compared to the last 5 years or so. This team plays as hard as anyone in the country, and they were rewarded with a dominating win over the best MAC program of the last 15 years. Whether they're down or not, that was a meaningful win over the 2021 MAC champs, and it was a game that Akron should have won, and they did. This moves Akron's point differential in MAC play to -29. That is an average of -4.14 points per game. The 2017 MAC East title team's average point differential was +2.13, just a 6 point difference going into the final game. If you include the MAC title game, a 17-point loss that was at one point 38-0, the point differential was exactly 0. It hasn't really shown in the win/loss column, but this team is further along than you think, while still having a significant talent and depth gap with most of the league. How sweet would a win at Buffalo be? The Zips haven't done that since 2005 either. GO ZIPS!!!!

Feels awesome! Cheers, Zips fans! 🍻

Tom Arth-ian field goal by NIU there

Kent comes back to win in OT at Buffalo. Let’s keep those guys out of a bowl next week!

I love motivating players in the right direction, the jinx worked! Great to hear from you K92.

Too close for comfort. 2-22 for Carry.
