  1. Zips without Trimble. Bulls without Mballa.
  2. Don’t have a good feeling coming into this one with so much time off and Lord knows what happened with the roster in the mean time. On top of that, if the Zips are without anyone it could be disastrous. Just gotta remember this thing is a marathon, not a sprint. Go Zips!
  3. Coach will be in Akron starting in just a few day and we should see official staff announcements soon too. It’ll be a sprint to signing day!
  4. They lose 72-69. Comical.
  5. Well said. One of my biggest knocks on Arth was his inability to put together a legitimate D1 coaching staff. Perhaps he lacked the connections to do it, but it's like he brought his entire UTC/JC staff and that was it. Except for Gasser, I think he just wanted to come back to the area after Iowa State let him go.
  6. The offensive line was performing so poorly in camp that he was quizzed on different blocking schemes and techniques and then failed miserably. He swapped places with Morookian to become the TE coach while Morookian took over the OL about mid way through fall camp. He was so hurt by this that he stormed out of the building and quit. Always seemed like a good guy, but just wasn't cut out to coach at this level quite yet.
  7. I get the disdain for him, but I’m glad there’s at least something to inject life into that place, however artificial it can be. I like him. I may get grilled for that hot take, but that’s fine. And I also agree with you that it is pretty absurd sometimes. But if Moorhead can fill that joint, and we’re competing in games, and it gets rocking a little bit, he’ll keep people fired up like Willy Kollman used to at basketball games. Again, I totally get the criticism for him. But I’ve been to a number of games at Kent in recent years, and it’s absolutely lifeless without something like that. They do have people do marketing competitions on the field which is cool, but at least Joe Akron can see Keith Kennedy at a game and be like “oh cool, that’s the guy on the radio in the morning, this place does kind of have some relevance.” Kent had that Ahmad guy from the Cavs do it a couple times (starting lineup guy) and he was absolutely horrid. You could tell he was just in it for the cash, he didn’t give a s*** about Kent or the game. Keith Kennedy seems to, and I’ll give him props for that.
  8. The Raiders go on the road to Raleigh and manhandle the NC State Wolfpack in the second half en route to an 84-70 win.
  9. That was absolutely glorious. I love watching Kent football get blown out. They end the season as they should, a .500 team.
  10. Fun listen. Joe seems to have a lot on his mind about what happened in Starkville, it would be awesome to have a few beers with him and hear all of those stories. Not a ton of UA stuff in this interview, it just got me more and more pumped that we hired a total badass head coach that is well respected everywhere in college football.
  11. He will by far be the best DB here in a few years. Good get, Joe!
  12. That sucks. I hope they’re all okay. That would have been a nice event to play in just before conference play.
  13. The Jags overcome a 22-point first half deficit to defeat Portage County Community College 78-76 at the MAC Center with a layup at just over a second to go.
  14. Bowl season over the last 6 years or so always does a nice job of showing the country what the conference is really made of. The MAC has seriously fallen off, and deserves all of the criticism it gets for being a crappy conference. Believe me, I still love watching it and it’s generally fun football, but when the MAC East comes down to two 6-5 teams the the west champ goes 0-6 the year before, as fun as those things are, they tell me there’s a lot of parity and parity that isn’t very good. Toledo pays Candle over $1 million a year, WMU pays Lester like $850k and both have been incredible disappointments based on recruiting outside of Toledo’s title in 2017 where UA didn’t even belong in the same stadium as that team. With that said, it’s a perfect opportunity for Moorhead to strike while the iron is hot and really do something to make moves in this league. It can be done.
  15. Thank you for the update. I've not watched a second of CMU basketball, but judging by results I've been following along with, they may be every bit as bad as the NIU teams of 10 years ago, specifically the one that scored 4 points in a half in that one game at EMU in 2012 I believe. The bottom of the MAC is pathetic, while the top is about as balanced and competitive as it has ever been.
  16. I don't think Kalle is being redshirted, he's dressed for every game, the other two aren't.
  17. Great win for the Zips tonight, I know a lot of us had plenty of doubts about this team’s ability to play away from the JAR. The defense traveled as it usually does, and the shooting made the trip as well. They could have shot better, but X and Trimble hitting those early ones had to take off quite a bit of pressure. Aziz has a long, long way to go, but he was fairly effective on offense tonight passing out of the double team, outside of maybe a turnover or two. He made some nice plays, and again played nice D. I’d like to see him keep on his feet on D though, he could get into foul trouble. Dawson has been fouling a lot too. I love his game, but he takes a poop-load of 3s for how good a shooter he is and he has recently been committing bad fouls. We need the bodies now and can’t afford too many of those. I’m glad we could play without Tribble too, hopefully whatever illness he’s battling isn’t too bad and doesn’t affect his game too much, he’s been in a groove. Overall, I was not impressed by Wright State. But the Zips will see their fair-share of teams like that come conference play, especially on the road where Groce teams have been known to struggle. He said on the post game that the goal is to be at least .500 playing away from home. The championship team was stellar away from the JAR and that’s what wins you championships. The team the year before couldn’t lose at the JAR but couldn’t win away from the JAR, and they wound up being pretty average. Still a ton of ball left to be played and a lot left to learn, but tonight was another good step. On to Radford.
  18. Is Tribble out? Aziz is starting
  19. Brayden Fox flamed out at Rutgers Todd Sibley was going to be a star at Ohio State until they pulled their offer and he became Van Edwards at Pitt Danny Clark has been on like 10 different rosters across all levels of college football after Ohio State pulled their offer There are plenty of others that I've seen as well, it's very strange.
  20. The amount of Hoban FBS flame outs has been staggering
  21. Pluto’s bosses tell him to write about Akron once in a blue moon because he’s been around long enough to that he just *has* to know what he’s talking about. The headlines on those two Arth columns alone should tell anyone all they need to know about his “expertise” on college football. It’s the same thing with the guys who follow Mount Union like it’s a religion. The Kehres name means little outside of their bubble. He may be great one day, but he’s only a .500 MAC coordinator good right now. Sorry guys, reality outside of the bubble you live in hurts sometimes.
  22. Zips are +3
  23. Well said. We're going to see a record number of 6th year seniors coming up in a few years, and once this wave passes, it will be tougher than it was in the past, but not as tough as it is right now. Truly a strange time in college athletics, but it will all balance out.
  24. Spot on. The Zips played very poorly down the stretch away from the JAR last season, and two years ago it could be argued that they played better on the road than they did at the JAR in some instances. The biggest thing has been shooting away from the JAR. Trimble specifically. I'd like to look at his home/road splits and see how big the difference really is. I'm curious to see how the Zips do in their first true road game against a fellow mid-major.
