  1. Great post. If the object is to make money, college athletics around the United States is almost entirely failing. I'm not even sure there is enough money in conference consolidation and TV revenues to put much of a dent in the debt because the athletic directors will blow it as soon as they make it. If the goal is to benefit the athletes students alumni fans and general communities around the schools, it does much better. I have no idea how much, but better. I'm not sure why taxpayers aren't given tickets to public universities in exchange for them supporting these programs.
  2. No. It's a terrible area. Not sure what to do about it. The experience is something different. It's never going to be perfect, but it can be better. My advice to everyone is, go to the games and have fun. Don't worry if there isn't a single other person there. Have your fun.
  3. I've seen Wake Forest play Clemson. The atmosphere was awesome. I've seen them play Elon, Rice, Tulane and the atmosphere is just ok, but not bad.... certain not awesome.
  4. I don't know how many college athletic events I attend where I would describe the atmosphere as "awesome". Most are generally good. If someone is looking for an awesome event every time they attend a college athletics event, they need to lower their standards. I get the problem you have with local bars. They are fun but trashy. I wouldn't want those to be my options for every game.
  5. I don't know this is entirely true. I wouldn't sit in the bleachers. There a plenty of good seats, with backs, available. If someone buys one of those tickets, they will have a pretty good view of the game.
  6. The Department operates in the red. Payday games, donations, student fees and tax dollars keep it afloat..... Or adrift depending on how you want to look at it.
  7. Thanks for your enthusiasm. I hate to bring up Wake Forest again, but here it goes. In particular, I agree with your notion of partnering with the City to promote athletics. Winston-Salem and Akron remind me so much if each other. It can be done. Anywhere you go in Winston, you will see Deactown banners on public light poles. It's used promotionally at every sporting event. It ties the City to the University. People in Kernersville aren't upset with the theme. Fans can even buy Deactown tshirts. https://www.bkstr.com/wakeforeststore/product/sst-1c-wf-deactown-black-sm---875357-1
  8. Excellent. Thanks.
  9. I've heard a couple of different stories about how Freeman came to be on the team. What is the true story and include the timeline?
  10. For a job or cup of coffee at the students center? They are currently in last place in their conference and have not won a conference game yet. They have something like 9 wins against cupcakes. Duquesne didn't build a new area for disastrous results. It would be shocking if Duquesne didn't clean house at the end of the year. They aren't going to turn over the program to a guy with three years as an assistant at Cleveland State and one in a train wreck of a season at their school.
  11. I was just checking out the MAC standings. With the exception of UA and BG, it's a sea of average with a couple of dregs at the bottom. Toledo has a good conference record but 11-7 isn't that good of a record. Akron really needs to take advantage of the league and win the MACC.
  12. I've seen so much complaining about refs after a win. MAC officiating is bad. It has always been bad. It will continue to be bad. Enjoy the win.
  13. I was really busy at work this week and lost track of many things. Zips basketball was one of them. Nothing better than waking up on a Saturday morning, looking for where the Zips would be playing today and finding out they already won and the win was at Kent.
  14. Eating a salad with your hands shows a lack of class. Helping others in need shows character. I'd take high character over high class. I wouldn't care if we had a stud QB who ate every meal with his hands as long as he works hard at helping his teammates be the best they can be.
  15. I know a guy who ate his salad at a wedding reception in Key West who would also bend over backwards to help someone.
  16. One other thing. I think younger people struggle with watching live sports events and television in general without assistance. For example, I like listening to music in bars. I'm also capable of understanding what's going on in the sporting event I'm watching without listening to the announcers. Younger people will throw a fit now if they can't hear the announcers during a game. Another thing I was reading about recently was young people watch television with the closed caption on even if they aren't hearing impaired. What kind of assistance would they need if at a game?
  17. I really don't know. People don't go to games or even the movies anymore. My home TV is great for watching movies. It's a better view for most games than most seats. Watching a game at a bar, which I did Friday, is a pretty awesome viewing experience. Is a free T-shirt going to motivate me to go to a game? Probably not. I have more T-shirts than I need. I should probably go upstairs and throw a few away after this post. Beer? I can drink beer at a bar or home. Free parking? I probably blow more than $10 per day on things far more stupid than a parking spot. Free tickets? Maybe if they were decent and I didn't need chiropractic care after. I do like to attend events of high quality and gladly spend the money. This isn't a high quality opportunity.
  18. That's interesting. VT tied for last is the most shocking part of the story.
  19. What is the best thing to do when you find yourself in a hole?
  20. He's hard to get to show up. Need to catch him on a good day.
  21. Destruction
  22. Ball hog.
  23. Buffalo is playing well. This won't last long.
  24. For the sake of many of us, they better hurry up before it's too late.
  25. I can only State some facts. These are facts I pulled off of the top of my head. Coming last football season, they had the second most win in the ACC over something like a 6-8 year period. Only Clemson was better. They Were in the ACC championship two years prior. They have had several Top 20 rankings in the past 20 years and even some top ten. Their baseball team was in the college world series last year. In the past 20 years they have won six national championships in six different spots. The women's golf team won the national championship last year. They compete at the highest level in soccer, mens golf, women's golf mens tennis and women's tennis. Will Zalatoris is a known professional golfer. They contribute nothing? Their school and athletic department are not taxpayer supported. I think you may have them mixed up with Pitt, Boston College, Syracuse, Georgia Tech or NC State. Unless, you just don't know what you are talking about.
