  1. Or finish the season with the entire roster. If they lose, all of the players should go (but they will not). It will show the players are not D1 talent and the new coach will have less to work with than Arth had when he took over.
  2. I supported him for years, but we need to dump Kato now. He is not the present nor the future of this team. l
  3. I completely disagree. However, it does not matter at this time. He is gone and the Zips are hoping for a 1-win season. Let's play with who is a Zip and who wants to be a Zip.
  4. I went back and looked at the ESPN stats on the number of tackles from the defensive players. I confirmed my thoughts after watching the games that the DL produced very little over the first two games. We are getting little to nothing from the DL. All successful teams have a solid defensive line that can stop the run and pressure and sack the QB. I see nothing that will improve this situation as the season goes along.
  5. I agree with the excellent comments from the Z-meister. Also, looking at the number of posts, your grandson is a freshman. If his name is Colin, please relax. He is a tough player and will get his time. His high school film shows that he is an excellent player. It is difficult for true freshman to see significant time on the field. They typically need a year to bulk up a little and gain some strength to be competitive. Also, most coaches defer to the players who have been there for a year or two if all things are equal. Also, I would ask that you think about your comments regarding a family member. A few years back, there was a dad that would make posts about what he heard from his son was going on in the locker room with the team. It became quite apparent that he was reporting issues that should stay in the locker room as well as comments about his son, who was not that good. It was not long before his son was off the roster (I do not know the reason) and there would not be any additional internal comments being posted. The playing time for your grandson will end up as it is supposed to be. I wish you well and I hope that you continue to support all of the Zips, including your grandson.
  6. I got nothing, and so I did not post. Sorry about that. I will still try to remember to watch it weekly since I try to soak up everything about my alma mater. Go Zips!!!!
  7. Tonight, I did a quick review of the stats of the Akron and Temple games from the ESPN website, and here is what I saw. 1. Both teams lost to a P5 school: Akron 60-10, Temple 61-14 2. Passing yards: Akron 191, Temple 148 3. Passing yard differential: Akron (-106), Temple (3) (Akron had 106 fewer yds passing than their opponent, while Temple had 3 more yards passing than their opponent) 4. Rushing yards: Akron (-3), Temple 113 5. Rushing yard differential: Akron (-318), Temple (-107) 6. Turnovers: Akron 4 fumbles lost, Temple 3 fumbles lost and 2 interceptions Looking at the statistics and differentials, I am very surprised that Temple lost by 47. When I first saw the score of the Temple game, I thought we had a solid chance to win. Now, I am not sure. Food for thought. More to come as the week goes on. Go Zips!!!
  8. The table above is incorrect. The total rushing yardage is positive, but not by much. Look on ESPN or other websites for game totals and you will see the facts.
  9. Read my comment. If the Suckeyes are your passion, then you are not a hall of fame poster for Akron and you should stay away. Most fans have allegiance to many teams, and that is great. Anyone can post since it is not my forum, but in my opinion, that does not matter, if the Zips are not your number one, then I do not want to hear from you. Akron will be really bad this year, but I am only a Zips fan from a college football, college basketball, and education basis. I chose to go to school at this university, and I will love it as long as I can.
  10. Don't know if you are a hall of fame poster. If so, stay on the site and put your history and knowledge to good use. If the Suckeyes are number one for you, then I wish you good luck and it is time to move on. We will ultimately win with or without the current fan base.
  11. Proffitt just showed up back on the roster. Always good that we did not lose a 300 lb defensive lineman.
  12. 1988 - Auburn 42, Akron 0 2021 - Auburn 41, Akron 3 Making progress
  13. Watching Zips weekly at noon Saturday. The tribe postgame on Friday went long and took up most of the Zips program time on Friday evening, so I caught the replay. I have tried to capture the comments by Arth and list the names that he spoke of; most were not in great detail. I know that I did not do a great job due to the discussion and my lack of typing skills, but we can use some of these comments to understand the 2 deep. OFFENSE QB - Excited about group of quarterbacks, Arth was a little elusive on on Kato and Gibson after Dunn asked about them. He said both played 10+ games. He spoke up and went on regarding Irons, Marousek, and Jankowski as excellent backups with a lot of potential. RB - Williams and Norrils were mentioned and they had great off seasons. WR - An Exciting group per Arth, Mathison, Qualls, Grimes (earned a scholarship), Andre Williams, Mumpfield (electric player), Singleton (compared to JoJo Natson) OL - Arth said they were all bigger and stronger, but they (and entire team) needed it. No names mentioned by Arth, Gray was discussed by Dunn and he stated that he is still a red shirt freshman even though this is his third year. (concept of red shirt and extra year of eligibility has been brought up in the past) TE - Arth said it is a good group. Brank has taken an incredible step forward. Yarmo has really improved. Ognenovic (transfer) is big and runs well and great leader. He will take on more responsibility as the season goes. These three guys will get the majority of the playing time. DEFENSE Bubba - defensive leader. taken on a bigger defensive leadership role. Taken ownership of entire team. ILB - Bischoff, Boateng, Corner, Snowden (started 2020 season opener and was injured), DiLauro is back and playing at a high level (I think that Dunn skipped over the OLB's and Arth did not comment) DL - McClain (listed as OLB in Gozips), Wilson, Sy, Scott (listed as OLB), Ryan Johnson, Curtis Fain, Zack Morton (Wade and Hawkins were not mentioned. This is Hawkins' 4th year I believe) DB - Cochran it starts with him, even with Bubba, he is the standard of a player, Watts is coming back, no others were mentioned. (Overall, I am disappointed at the defensive review, but I thought that Dunn did a poor job of facilitating the discussion, or maybe, the defense will be so bad that there is nothing to talk about) K - Smigel, Arth loves Corey, Also Finchen will kickoff, Romenick and Slike (super internship, beat out IVY league schools) will battle for punting To a prior post, I guess Coach Arth has excitement and enthusiasm!!! Let's all try to catch Zips weekly on TV. Go Zips!!
  14. Zero enthusiasm? I disagree. I will leave out the coaches and players. However, the University, Athletic department, community, and students seem to have zero enthusiasm. Then, I look at the Zipsnation forum and there has to be a single digit number of supporters that have enthusiasm. That means there are between 1-9 supporters (I will put the number at 8.) of the program who post in this fantastic forum. Where are all of the hall of fame posters that have stopped commenting on this board. Let's awaken the alumni.
  15. The Zips are a 37 point dog. They have 3 seniors on the roster, only one of who may play (beside special teams). They have over 70 Fr and R-Fr on the team. There is no competitive advantage by holding back the 2 deep. I have been critical of the coach at times, but I have also tried to support Arth. He is making it harder by the day to see the positivity in the program. Now, an upset today would erase all of the wrongs that have been voiced here. Let's go David!!!
  16. No depth chart, no updated media guide, bios not updated in Gozips roster, no spring prospectus, no... Is there an athletic department? Based on how the year goes, I may have to rethink my donations.
  17. S.L. McCall is also no longer on the roster. He came from Iowa Western CC and was praised by Arth after spring ball was concluded. The irony is that he was a high school teammate of Dollard.
  18. As a result of the determination of eligibility from the red shirt and Covid rules, we now have an OL that is made up entirely of Fr or R-Fr. Even though the R-Fr may be in their 3rd year, we may be reporting that the entire OL is made up of freshman. I wander if this may be the first time that this situation has happened in FBS for a program that is not in their first year. No need for a lack of fact speculation, but it does make the future bright, but the present may be challenging.
  19. Thanks for the replies regarding Gest. However, I was hoping for one of the 'insiders' to have some specific information instead of of pure speculation. I could guess at several plausible explanations that do not have any basis either. On another note, with Peterson getting into the transfer portal, the Zips are down to three seniors on the roster, with Kato being the only player with experience, and I am hoping they move on from him. This season is going to be bad with such limited experience.
  20. I just noticed that Cole Gest has disappeared from the roster on Gozips. Has anyone heard any details on why he is not with the team?
  21. I think this is a significant loss on a very young OL. The center typically calls a lot of the line plays and assignements. I find it hard to believe that we will be better with one more young OL. If so, then the future is very bright. I hope that this not Arth's way of getting rid of the players that he did not recruit. As of this morning, he is still showing on the Zips roster and not in the transfer portal. However, the Athletic Department is awful in updating the bios and other information on Gozips. I wish him the best for his new school for one year.
  22. Both Mitchell and Bentley have been in the portal since May. Neither of them were great, but I hate to lose 2 large upperclassmen defensive linemen when the rest of the DL group is very young and not real deep. It is surprising that his note says that he will transfer in the spring; he must have not had any options to transfer over the last 3 months. The timing may end up costing him a year of eligibility. I wish them both good luck.
  23. BS - Stands for best synopsis. Thanks for agreeing that I did a fantastic job of providing a brief summary of the current situation. The cupboard wasn't that bare, except for the Bowden recruits he decided not to sign. Please take a look at the distribution of the grades of the players across the roster and you will quickly see that there are very few juniors and seniors that will be providing meaningful play (Bubba and a few others will). Also, go back over the last few years and look at the current status of Bowden recruits. Many are not in football and few are playing at the D1 level. Arth might have done OK, but hasn't shown any signs of being able to handle D1 level. So far, he has not done OK with the very bad hand dealt him. I do not know if he can handle the D1 level, but he could handle the NFL as a player. For years, there has been a discussion if the New England Patriots were successful because of Tom Brady or Bill Belichick. Belichich has been known as one of if not the best NFL head coach ever. However, last year, Brady leaves, the Patriots go 7-9, and Brady wins the Super Bowl. Coaching is important, but talent is the key factor in winning sports games. When you have not played competitive sports above little league, you probably do not understand this concept. Everyone sees how bad the Zips. Everyone. First of all, the comment is not a complete sentence nor does it make sense as written. However, I believe that my great Akron education allows me to understand what is meant. True, but few understand the root causes and true reasons for the losses. The comment above regarding little league also applies here. Go Zips!!!
  24. I agree 100%, from the 100 mile high level review. However, I can see the situation from 2 sides. First, Arth came into a program with a near bare cupboard of talent left by Bowden. In addition, he was hired so late in his first year that he did not sign anyone on the early signing day in December that year. From this perspective, he is in year 2. However, when looking at the flip side, I have questions if he is a good coach. I want to think that a NFL player knows the game of football. However, I have a friend who's son played for him at JCU. He did not see the field. However, after Arth left, my friend's son was first team all conference. So, can he or can he not judge, evaluate, and coach talent. I do like the talent of the young players that Arth has recruited. As long as he is the coach, I will be critical as needed but I will also support the program.
