Dr Z
G-mann, do you listen to KD speak to French after the games? How often? I think that is the reference.Yes I heard the quote in question.I am surprised that nobody has had the same reaction that CK has had over the years. I've heard KD numerous times complain about the crowd on the post game show. I always took it as a slap in the face. I always felt he is complaining to the wrong audience. He is crying to the diehard fan that is listening. To me that is a disservice to his cause. I think his passion should be expressed to those that aren't attending games, the ones that aren't listening. I think the majority of people that listen to the post game show are the ones that attend the basketball game. I think once that our marketing savvy AD gets wind of this, it may stop. cms133@uakron.edu
I'll be to every home game whether we win or lose just like I was for football and soccer. The bottom line is, if you are a student, you should be there.
ZachTheZip
I show up to every game, and I'm sick of getting crapped on. You can only have so many "hardcore" followers, coach Dambrot. You want the crowds, but you want them to be like us. They're not. They show up to be entertained, but the product on the court is anything but entertaining. I have a hunch that if your team played "entertaining" ball last night, they would have won. Throw down a couple more big dunks, hit the open three, guards slashing to the hoop to take some pressure off, taking hits and getting the And-1s instead of blown layups when you don't get the call. Things that your team should already be doing but aren't. Are they afraid of the refs? Screw the refs. We got your back if they start harassing the players. Play with the intention to win a game. originalrowdy
Look guys, none of this crap matters. The only thing that matters is the Q Arena and winning that tourney. We can play this game all day long--whose better, worse, blah blah-- but at the end of the day, more often than not, ONE team comes out of the MAC with smiles on their faces. Let's just suck tihs up, be glad it happened so maybe these guys will step their games up, and cheer on our Zips against NIU. Make "In Blue and Gold Pride" mean something... I'm out. infofan
Can we cut Coach Dambrot a little slack. Heres an Akron guy thats led us to post season 3 of the last 4 years and hopefully again this year. Yet hes criticized constantly for playing a weak schedule, pulling players too quick, not playing some guys, suspending players, and making a sarcastic comment about fairweather fans ( because att. was down 1200 on monday night). We all have a right to say these things but in the heat of the moment KD also says some things he might regret later. Hes committed to this school, as have most fans so IMHO he has a right to voice his frustration once in a while. You probably noticed he didnt do his post game interview till almost 20 minutes after the game. Rest assured he had some things to say to those boys. Fans take a loss hard but the coaches probably take it harder.
Zips Win!
Wow, Dambrot was right. All you complainer fans better not be the first celebrating if we do manage to repeat as MAC Champs.No. Dambrot is wrong.Dambrot ALWAYS whines about the fans, and attendance. After almost every game he grouses about the people that AREN'T in the seats, rather than appreciating the fans that ARE in the seats. When his team goes in the crapper, he grouses that "all the fans think we stink anyhow." But they don't. Dambrot wants to paint a "It's us against everyone!" picture. F*ck that.I race home for these weekday games, pick up my son from school, get him fed and dressed, wife gets home from work in Cleveland and hurriedly gets changed into her Zips gear. We take our 25-30min drive down to Akron, walk two blocks in 11degree weather to enter a steaming JAR and support the Zips Basketball Program. Dambrot takes that for granted. He preaches tough love to his players, but if a fan wants to express some tough love towards the program...well...then EVERYONE MUST be against him.Yesterday the team put on a listless performance, losing to a team they are eminently capable of beating. In the past two full games, the Zips have barely given the fans a reason to leave their seat (to cheer) during the game. What fun is that? Players are getting suspended. We got SMOKED by K.e.n.t. These last few weeks have pretty much sucked for all but those fans with the last name of Dambrot. You know what? If you express dissatisfaction with that, you probably care about the program. FOR SHAME! But - Us fans are all terrible. We need to put on our hair shirt and repent for days-on-end if we say the team is underachieving.Dambrot needs to realize the love goes both ways. Dambrot needs to realize their are a ton of fans busting their ass, speeding their families through all sorts of crappy NE Ohio weather, to support his team. Fans that are paying $15.00ea, or more, for multiple tickets per game. And those fans get crapped on after every home post game press conference.I'm tired of Dambrot hating on the fans. Fix your issues on the court and the fans will meet your expectations.Quit taking one fan and generalizing that ALL fans are That Guy, because it is ridiculous. You think you're motivating your players by telling them "it's us against the world." But you're just embedding a false impression that fosters dissension.I attend all the games. I'll call a spade a spade if we play listlessly or well. I'll celebrate if we win the MAC tourney, and I'll be pissed if we lose to K.e.n.t. by 20 in the MAC quarterfinals. If you handle it differently, good for you. But you're a no better fan than me, or anyone else, for doing so.Amen. Thank goodness I didn't hear his post game comments. What a bunch of garbage! Yea, rip on the fans.Fans aren't allowed to complain? Are we back in T-Ball? Coach the team for free, play with a team full of walkons, with free admission, then I would agree... If the coaches can get pissed, and take losses personally, so can I. I've been around UA as long as he has...
Let'sGoZips94
This team isn't going to ever win a national championship or anything and it makes no difference what our record is because the only way we will every make the tournament is to win the MAC.That's the Akron attitude! You have to raise the bar once it's been beaten. We won the MAC, now we have to try to aim higher.
johnnyzip84
So I'm as disheartened as most by what I've seen lately. But let's talk about the next game a bit. Do we see many line-up changes? Will the rotations be limited? Will KD mimic Geno's rant just prior to K.E.N.T righting their ship? Will MAC referees ever figure out that, yes, Nik really CAN pull off that spin move without switching his pivot foot?
Dave in Green
..... Will MAC referees ever figure out that, yes, Nik really CAN pull off that spin move without switching his pivot foot? You might be onto something here. Nik has an incredibly quick spin move for a big MAC forward, and Zeke has incredibly good blocking ability for a MAC center. MAC refs don't have much experience with either, and I think we all agree that the Zips are the victims of bad calls on both.Maybe something proactive and creative like KD having someone take slo-mo footage of Nik's spin move and Zeke's clean blocking ability and sending it to the guy in charge of MAC refs. Seriously.

Seriously. He should also send the stats regarding running foul totals. For example, nearly every game you have a situation where say one team has 8 fouls and the other has 3 and then the refs call 5 straight fouls on the team with 3 fouls to even it up.It goes back and forth every game like that.
