Was a Zips Blogger Drunk When He Wrote This?

My God, the ABJ allows this to be posted on their web page. The more things change there, the more they stay the same at the ABJ.

Rasor asks if long term a Zips fan would change places with a Can't, OU, Temple or NIU fan. The answer to that in at least two out of four, I would. Temple can be good for a loing time. NIU has been good for a long time. The only team I would say Hell No to is Can't. NIU is a proven winner (wins a lot of games). If we have good facilities, so does Temple...an NFL stadium comes to mind. OU can continue to be good for at least five more years.

Secondly, our commitment to iCoach should be five years? This has to be a joke. If we go 0-12, the commitment to iCoach should not be five minutes. Not to win a game in the worst conference in the country after at least winning 3 last year with 17 returning starters, IMNHO, is cause for immediate termination.

Is Rasor really what law school and a career in an intellectually bankrupt Republican Party creates? I guess so. There are people who actually voted for this guy to serve on the board of a relatively large Ohio town. I'm simply amazed by it. He was a lot smarter before law school and a career in politics. Try harder Rasor.

Minnesota just fired Tim Brewster mid-season. And he even won a game this season. He had three and a half years left on his contract and the buyout cost $600,000. If we go 0-12, we must follow suit.

Now that is an interesting comparison, considering we've both just recently made considerable investments in new stadiums. I wish our athletics department was as flush is cash as I'm assuming Minnesota's is.

What's interesting is that the buyout is much less than what he would actually be paid if he was kept on for the full extent of the contract. I wonder what Ianello's buyout clause looks like. I know his salary is $350k per year and his assistant salary pool is $800k. We could save a significant amount of money by firing him and starting over, if it becomes evident that he won't turn things around. He deserves two more years. Midway through the third season, an evaluation needs to be made and we should be fully prepared to start over. Waiting five years is far too long.

I agree wholeheartedly. By now, surely Proenza and the Administration realize what a colossal error they made, both with Wistrcill and especially Ianello. I'm told that Tressel wanted one of his assistants to interview for the UA job, but that no one from UA would even respond to Tressel. What is going ON over at Hilltop High? Are they so smug, so arrogant, that they wouldn't even give the coach of Ohio State--an Akron alum, mind you--the time of day?

As fans, we have every right to seriously question the process used in hiring this worthless AD and Coach. Something just ain't right, here, folks. And for Razor to suggest that we're stuck in this predicament for FIVE years is beyond insane.

Proenza had better act swiftly and decisively, because the on-campus sports investment is going to pot...and fast.

A big difference is that this was Brewster's third year. If this is where you are after three years, you're a goner.

My guess is that Coach Ianello will get at least two years, not just because of the money contractually committed to him, but also because of the egg that would be on TW's face for having goofed up so badly by hiring him and paying him so much. It would be an admission by him of a huge screw-up. My hunch is that if RI wins 2 games or fewer next year, he will be gone, contract or no contract, especially if they are regularly blown-out, like this year. UA did not invest in these beautiful new on-campus facilities so that the team could turn off its fan base by regularly embarrassing itself in an empty stadium.

Gosh, I hope they players don't read this stuff.

I see some commentator over there is taking credit for having always thought Terry Bowden was the man for the job, whereas I'm sure he got the idea by reading my thoughts on here. Regardless, that would've been a home run hire. As it is, we've not only struck out, we've fallen over and planted our face in the dirt while doing it. Any booster who can step up and offer to help buy this clown's contract out should be considered the savior of the program in my book. Oh, and Rasor should stick to sniffing around the locker room for inside information and leave the analysis of what's good for this program to others.

Dude, nice try taking credit for the Bowden idea, but *I* first floated it on Rasor's blog way back when JD was fired....go back and look....I even posted Bowden's entire resume to make it easy for UA. However, I was attacked there and here for even suggesting such a hire. Go figure. Now everyone's on the bandwagon. No matter.

What's interesting now is that Minnesota just fired their no-experience head coach midseason after the school hired him to fill their new stadium. Coach was a big time bust. And who was Associate AD at Minnesota when they made that genius hire? None other than TOM WISTRCILL.

Here's the firing story. Insert Akron for Minnesota, and Tom is writing this story across the country...

Rasor is reluctant to be even the slightest bit critical of the Zips since he was elected to office. I love the fact that the ABJ has a Zips blogger, but I don't believe he is being nearly as critical as he has been in the past.....that being said he was hardly critical before, but it was better than the dribble he is writing now.

All I got out of that BS was that GPI is a liberal...That explains a lot about him.

Everything seems to make a little more sense now.

I'm already comparing this to a similar period of futility. LO won only 8 games in his first 3 years. Not only did we keep him around, but he got a contract extension at some point, and we allowed him to stick around for 9 seasons, and had to live through nearly an entire decade of our football team losing 20 games MORE than we won.

Lets not repeat this. If the coach doesn't "have IT", I sure hope we recognize it much sooner this time around.

First of all, I am neither a supporter or detractor for Icoach. Contrary, to what many of you believe, the cupboard was not as well stocked as we were led to believe. On top of that, 23 players have left the team since the departure of JD. You add to the snowball by changing bith offensive and defensive schemes. And add to that the fact that you starting QB is not a prostyle qb and was recruited to lead a spread offense. All of this adds up to a major disaster for this season.

Although I am disappointed, I am looking at the future and hoping things will improve for next year.

DW & I will be at the game on Saturday! Will you?

A couple things regarding this topic -

The Rasor site is, to my knowledge, funded by UA Athletics. It was set up by Mike Waddell many years ago as a means to get UA sports coverage in the ABJ somewhere (people forget that, before Gaffney got the Zips beat writer position, the Zips coverage in the ABJ was equivalent to the ABJ's coverage of Fresno State Beauty Academy). How critical can you expect Rasor to be of any UA program? They pay his bills. That why Joe Dunn lobs his softballs to iCoach in the post game, and why the other announcers bite their tongues when describing this season's here-to-fore-unseen-by-anyone-but-K.e.n.t. pigskin abyss.

Maybe Mike doesn't honestly believe what he's writing? There have been time on this board where I get so beaten down by the negativity that I post something stupidly optimistic just for fun. A writer doesn't necessarily need to believe in everything he writes... it's just as big a responsibility to get people to think, or see an alternate point of view. Or, maybe just to get "hits" on your site. Of course, if that's your angle, you need to accept the inevitable ridicule that comes along with it.

Every AD has his angle. Judging from the K.e.n.t. State post game lovefest showered upon iCoach, YouTube Tom is in a very protective mode with his media outlets. Kinda like the guy shouting "ALL IS WELL!" at the end of Animal House.

Whether it is Mike, or Joe Dunn, don't expect any overly-critical comments on our "Road to the Dozen Gooseggs." That's just the way it has to be.

A unique perspective from the Capt. and I definitely learned something from his post. Most egg cartons hold 12 eggs, but I have also seen some that hold 18 and some that hold 6. I have never before, however, seen one that holds ten (10) eggs! Way to go. :P

If this is true, then it suddenly adds a lot more credibility (in my eyes) to the allegation that Wistricil closed-mindedly pulled for one of his old buddies/associates.

At this point, I don't know if we would win 2 games the rest of the way against a purely I-AA schedule. I guess that is pretty much what the MAC is, but still...WMU, Temple, Ball State, Miami, Buffalo? Any other year I'd say we should win 3 of 5, but not this season. The good part is that there won't be anyone at the final two home games to witness the debauchery.

What are the chances that iCoach will resign?

thank the lord there is someone else with a similar sentiment.

I realize that the play this year has been atrocious, but to use the 17 starter argument is downright silly. 17 starters from a team that won 3 games. One against Morgan State, one against Can't State(which is usually a toss up every year), and one against Eastern Michigan, who went 0-12 last year.

Sure, every player is more talented at football than you and I, but learning an entirely new system that might not suit their style of play just doesn't always work right away.

Also don't forget that RI didn't have an entire year to recruit. However, next year will be interesting in terms of who he can convince to come here with such poor performances currently on the field.
