Scoreboard After The Game

Yep, I didn't get that one either. Talk about possibly alienating some fans. You need to know your market. Reminds me of the place we had a company event in Baltimore last weekend when the DJ delighted in announcing when the Steelers took out the Ravens. You really ought to know your audience, we won't be using them next year.

I honestly don't think people understand the true definition of a front runner.

Wow. How can this sort of crap get by and/or be supported by the athletics department? As a Cleveland sports fan, I'm more offended than if otherwise, but there's no way that there should be a goofy opinion voiced on the jumbotron at all. I'd disagree less if it said "Go Browns!" but the point is the same. Sounds like someone on the scoreboard crew is one of the typical goofball NE Ohio Steeler fans that love to shove it in your face how good "their" team is just to get a rise out of you. Front runners indeed, lilroodude.

Very bad move for whomever decided to put that on the scoreboard. Seriously, by my count there was only one Akron Zips product still alive in the hunt for playing in the Super Bowl this year. Jason Taylor plays for the Jets who were the Steelers opponent.

I wouldn't have condoned a "Go Jets" message either at a U of A baskeball game but if it would have included a note about JT it at least would have made more sense.

I don't understand why something like that happened. I'm not a Jets, Browns, or Steelers fan, but as a Zips fan, I was rooting for the Jets because of JT.

I agree "Good Luck To Jason Taylor" would have been very appropriate at a Zips game. Especially since he was an Akron basketball player too.

I could maybe understand the bitch if it was like " Free hotdogs after the game for all Steeler fans" or BOGO tickets for those wearing black and gold tonight. I saw the same message and laughed it off. This was just a kid having a moment of fun, no more no less. I hope that all will find it in their hearts to forgive him and the university as a whole.

Got to disagree with you on this one. My concern is not that some young staff member tried to promote his pro team. My concern is where is the editorial control in the athletic department. This should have been caught by a management team member and nixed before it was displayed. If it continues you could see all kinds of personal messages appear that all seem innocent, cute and I guess forgivable. Would a "Go Heat " message be ok at the next game?

It is hard enough for the development department to raise funds from former athletes. I hope Mr. Taylor doesn't get a copy of the photo in this thread. Poor choice of song lyrics one week, and a stupid score board message the next game. Foregivable if it stops but I see a disturbing pattern and a lack of control.

You know how, at Cavs games, they'll put a Michigan logo, or some schlep in the stands wearing a Michigan shirt on the big screen, just to get the crowd to begin booo-ing?

Last season I saw the "Jeff Penno Shot" shown on the video screen several times in an attempt to get Zips fans to "boo" when an opponent was at the free throw line.

Without a doubt, the most ignorant idea in the world.

If you were at that game, and saw that shot go down, it absolutely ripped your heart out. To show the Miami team celebrating on the JAR video screen is consistent with the other inane decisions we've seen this year. ZZZips is correct...stupidity, and no control.

I wish we had an AD that was a Zip. When will George Van Horne be ready?

That's fair enough, though I was only refering to this matter as one independent event. When placed in line with other events, as part of a pattern, I can certainly understand the relevance.

Fantastic point!!!

My concern isn't even with editorial control. It's with control in general. This is a little issue because it is hard to control a 20 year old with access to a scoreboard. The dance team song was a much bigger issue as it takes weeks to prepare for that. How many other little things are going on that add up to a big issue?

The only outside of the school information on the scoreboard or videoboard should be "Scores From Around The MAC". If they want to show video of highlights from other MAC games happening that day as a new service to the fans, then that is fine. Other than that, make it about the Zips only.
