GP1
We played this game last year and everyone likes it so let's play it again. Describe this past Zips season in one word and ONLY one word and tell us why. I'm going to use the word "controlling". This is going to sound strange, but it was almost as if the season controlled the Zips and not the other way around. It was a good season for the team, but there were setbacks I thought this team would have found a way through with the talent level. They let some of the old problems of the past, such as losing to OOC teams they should't lose to, trip them up. Next year, I want the Zips to take control of their season. Stop losing to teams like Valpo, Duquesne, MTSU, ,CSU and VCU. We have the talent to win many more of these types of games than we do and I sick of losing as much as we do to these types of teams. By these types of teams, I mean quality OOC teams. For some reason, we can lose to these types of teams and come in the MAC schedule and destroy a terrible league...I think it gives us an unwarranted heightened sense of success. Let's get control next year and take this program to the next level. We shouldn't be looking for incremental improvements in the program. We need to expect a big jump in the quality of program we see on the floor next year. The talent on this team is too good for incremental growth. It's time to take control and start winning big and against a lot of big name teams (meaning good OOC teams and not Arkansas Whatever State). Dave in Green
Unfinished. As I said in another post, in order to win, you first have to put yourself in a position to win. The Zips did a good job of staying in most games right up until the last minute or two. While they could make great runs from big deficits and catch up, they just couldn't finish enough of those close games against tougher opponents. Had they done it against OU, they'd be in the NCAA tournament. Had they done it against a few of the higher-ranking teams on the schedule this season -- VCU, ORU, Valpo, CSU -- they would have had a legitimate shot at an NCAA at-large bid. I want the focus next season to be on finishing out close games against tough opponents -- taking it to a higher level when the game is on the line as they did this season against some of their lesser opponents.. Let'sGoZips94
ADAPTATION Totally new style of play for KD and Zips fans. Faster paced, up and down the court. It was exciting to watch, but definitely needs improvement. Can't wait until 2012-2013.

I'll accept that word, as long as we don't create a commercial like Can't State. Haha. What a pathetic use of graphics and camera work. g-mann17
Metamorphisis. Why? Because it was the final breaking out from the old Dambrot way to the knew Dambrot way. Chauncey, Abreu, Marshall, Diggs, Walsh, Tree, and Harney showed the potential they have of running the show. Chauncey gets an A on the final, Marshall showed he can dominate, and Diggs showed killer instinct. If anything that loss last night makes me excited about next year. johnnyzip84
Incipient The Zips were right on the verge of breaking through this year. I believe it will happen next season as long as the chemistry issues are adequately addressed. Otherwise, the program could easily take a few steps backward. Like Hilltopper says, these things are part of all sports teams. But it's a question of severity. I don't know whether I can blame it on social media or what, but I personally have read (without too much effort) evidence of what seems to be a significant amount of friction between certain players and between the coach and certain players. There's no need to dwell on the individuals involved, because that's not my point. I just hope everyone can get on the same page without it causing too much of a distraction in 2012-2013. phil
Athletic There I said it. The A word. And I am not referring to the opposing team. Last night we were the athletic team. We beat Can't 3 times because we were quicker, could outrun, outjump them and outmuscled them. We did not lose to the west division because of our athleticism. Did you see Zeke run the floor last night and dunk the ball. That is the move of an athlete. Keith has never had an athletic team like this one and it will only get better next year. If Keith can get these guys to work hard and share the ball, the sky is the limit.

zippy5
Tumultuous. Couldn't ever decide if we were going to be awesome, or just hang around and hope to eek out a W. My second choice would be hopeful. One of the youngest teams in the country, and they did improve a ton over the course of the season. Depending on the schedule, I could see us losing 5 games next year. Just sucks that we have to wait so long to see it.
UAZipster0305
Spotted. Along with DiG's "Unfinished" theme, we "Spotted" the opposing team large leads in many games by starting very slow and played undisciplined and disorganized. Against lesser competition, we were able to overcome the deficit. Against teams at our level or better, we lost. DiG mentions we need to finish stronger. I disagree, we finished plenty strong! We even played the last 25+ minutes strong in many games (e.g. NW) just to make them competitive, but when the other team is "spotted" a large lead (10-20 points), a play or two that were not made at the end of the game cannot be attributed as the reason for the loss. Those games were lost due to a span of play in the first half that is inconsistent with even being competitive in the MAC West. "Spotted" also refers to the corresponding inconsistency of play. I will chalk this up to being a young team if the issues are corrected for next season. Fun thread topic, GP1. Good form!
Dr Z
Gravy. I didn't think they would win a tourney game at the beginning of the season. Next year I do! I want to see coaching that reflects it early in the schedule because we have the talent now.

K-Roo
TYPICAL This happens every year. It was typical for any long-suffering Akron sports fan. We have been conditioned to expect to be disappointed. Close, so close, but choked when it matters most. ALMOST -- not quite but almost there. There for the taking if we could just.... almost got it.... nope.... there it went... I "hoped" we win the MAC tourney. I "hope" we beat Northwestern.... but my expectations did not match my "hopes." Been disappointed too many times. After all, we are Akron....

MDZip
Level. The Zips sort of finished where it was expected that they would, at the top of the MAC. There was definitely no backsliding, but there also wasn't any great leap forward. The team is still in a very good place.
taxpayer
Agonizing. First couple of true OCC games with suspensions & injuries followed by first half struggles in most games followed by the final two week roller coaster. I believe we witnessed some tough growing pains that will result in improvement by this team over the off season and a very challenging beginning to next years schedule. It will be tough game after tougn game in the apparent OCC for 2013. The young guns will have to mature quickly for a 20 win season next year. With that said, if we meet or exceed the 20 win mark with what will unquestionably be the most difficult schedule in Akron history we will be in the national conversation come March 2013! Rest up Zips, then begin the preparation for another wild ride! We didn't get to where we wanted go but we can't question the effort nor desire. Keep working hard Zips, the future is bright. Dr Z
Profitable Akron was 20-10 against the spread this season. Going 11-0 ATS at home! If you bet $1 on every game this season, you would have won $10 minus the juice.
GalleyBoy
McClanahan. Not trying to put everything on Brett, but he definitely wasn't the same player this year. My mind just keeps going back to him. Would have loved to see this team with 10-11 Brett who scored 10 a game and shot 39% from 3 as opposed to 4.4 and sub 30%. RACER
when i saw us play N.W. it was the first time that we finally have as good,or better athletes than some big ten teams. kd has done a good job of bringing in better players.that does not guarentee wins next year, but if you don't have the talent you have no chance of winning.kd did a good job of bringing in prop48 kids, and transfers.hopefully they can come out next year on fire. Class of 82
Promising While I wish we could have ended the year on a more positive note, I leave this season with a very upbeat feeling about what's in store next year. Our returning team is, by far, the strongest and deepest that Akron has ever had. I'm not going to let momentary disappointment get me down when the future of this program has never been brighter. burrdie
FUTURE! I see a bright future for this team. They have to realized it first and then reach for the brass ring, the future will be bright and awesome. I am watching all the NCAA games and the one big thing I see is they give to it hurts and then keep giving. I mentioned this before and I will continue to suggest they keep working at accomplishing the gosls they set by giving all they have.
