Spin
Some Akron fans have taken on the characteristics of Marshall fans, who must denigrate other teams to feel better about themselves. I have respect for other programs that have accomplished important things. It's good for the conference. That's fine, but the constant comparisons is condescending. You're talking down on a team (in it's own forum). You can't acknowledge what they have accomplished. You can talk about Ohio without bragging and crapping on Akron. Otherwise, you're more than welcome to go to the Ohio forums and don't let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.
GP1
"Do, or do not. There is no try." - Yoda The Zips did some very good things last night that will translate into wins. The future is bright for this tea. Very excited I am. What they did not do may be solved when we get into the MAC schedule. Rob Ianello's team they are no longer. Shocked I am at the quality of play from this team. Luke may not have pulled the X Fighter from the swamp, but he still became a Jedi Knight. I only point out when a fan denigrates another MAC team without cause. Go back a few posts and you'll see what I mean. I am very impressed with what Bowden has accomplished - just don't want him to accomplish too much in year one because he'll take the first job offer he gets from a larger school. We need him here at least four years.

I also watched on espn3 and was pleased with the amount of coverage/commentary went Akron's way. Much time was spent focusing on the Bowden family and resuscitating Akron football. It was a good watch.
LZIp
Great effort by the Zips last night. Nothing to be ashamed of, UT has a top QB and WR corp in the nation. We just didnt have the depth as a team to compete for 4 quarters, IMO. This team WILL make some noise during MAC play. Ohio, NIU, or Toledo. I'll predict we upset one of those 3. FIU almost beat #19 Louisville last night, too.
RootforRoo44
Are you saying that FIU is better than Marshall? YES!!!! Are you saying that the Tennessee team we saw last night - which was wholly unimpressive - is much better than a Penn State team that you earlier said wouldn't win a game - and has now won two straight? YES!!! Penn State is gonna get worked in their conference schedule...in a conference that is DOWN this year. Get over your jealousy and focus on the Zips, who do seem to be making strides. I think they can beat Miami based on what I've seen out of the Redhawks thus far. No one is even semi-jealous of Ohio's football program. Are you kidding me?! My God, even undefeated, your Marching Band is more popular than your football team (and for good reason!)
ZachTheZip
Tennessee > Penn State UCF > Marshall FIU > New Mexico State Morgan State < Norfolk State So ohio's FCS opponent is an improvement over Akron's. Big deal.

Big deal. Tennessee is currently ranked below Ohio by the AP, and Akron lost to Tennessee by 21. Frankly, Tennessee has shown nothing to indicate they are better than Penn State with wins over a woeful Florida, some team called Georgia State and Akron. akzipper
Tennessee > Penn State UCF > Marshall FIU > New Mexico State Morgan State < Norfolk State So ohio's FCS opponent is an improvement over Akron's. Big deal. The truth hurts the OU tool. They would have lost by more than 30 points to Tennessee. Recent history has shown how the SEC is on a completely different level than the BigTen. Like I've said before, the Bobcat fans' arrogance and stupidity is an embarrassment to the MAC. Even Can't State fans are laughing at them now! MontrealExposloveZippy
Awesome game last night!! Super pumped to take on Miami this weekend!! My friends and I have a theory that TBOW motivates his players from the skittles he keeps in his fanny pack. Also, I LOOOOOVE how TBOW doesn't tuck his shirt in!! gardyvol
I just want to stop by and say that you all played a great game last night. I was there, and like most Vol fans, totally underestimated your team. We did not think you guys would challenge us, but you played superb, and your offense is loads of fun to watch. Give him time, and ole Terry will have you guys turned around in no time. And also, if you went to the game. What did you think of Knoxville, the school, and Neyland? Sorry for all of the construction going on around the stadium tho. Go Vols Go Zips
Lee Adams
Whats the injury situation? Is DW healthy?. If they can give another effort like this against Miami...good shot at winning that one.
zestycoyote
The one thing that worries me about Miami is Dysert. He's a really good QB with some solid options at WR. Sounds like another shootout to me.
JimmytheZip
I just got back from Tennessee. What a game. One of the only things better than hearing 80 thousand plus cheering is not hearing them at all. We went in there and kept those people quiet for most of three quarters. There is an energy and discipline with this team this year. I am not sure if you could see it on ESPN3, but there was a lot of shoving after plays by Tennessee and our guys never complained and never retaliated. They just got right in there faces and stared them down. This team believes. I can't wait for next week. We will go against a team we are better matched up for (not twice our size at almost every position) and will be fun to watch. I am impressed already this year but until the wins start there will be naysayers. I don't think we will have to wait much longer for our first win. Go Zips! Fear the Roo! mes102
Just added another to my block list... This is the most optimistic most of us Zips fans have been in a few years, and we have people posting here talking about other MAC schools and trying to take a jab at us. Seems like they may be a little nervous when it comes time for them to play us....
Class of 82
We all remember Coach Iaintbowden talking about a "process," which pretty much translated into, "We are really hopelessly awful, and if we work real hard we have a chance to just be really bad sooner than anybody thinks." Finally, though, we can see a process... a real one... at work with these Zips. It's evident that the players believe in the coaches' systems on both sides of the ball. They know that if they do what they've been taught to do, that good results can come. They have gotten better every week. And they will be better next week, too, just in time to start MAC play. Now, it's time to put it all together and open up a can of whoop-ass on Miami. Go Zips!
GP1
They have gotten better every week. Improvement, we see. Enthusiastic about the future, we should be.

MDZip
I'm very excited this is the weekend I selected to come and see the Zips play (thank you schedule makers for combining it with a Zips soccer game). I really believe they can beat Miami, but even if they don't happen to I know it will be a great game and great fun to watch. Add in a happy tailgating group and I haven't been this excited about Zips football since 2005. By luck or design we have acquired not only a great football coach but a great leader and molder of young men. For this year how could you possibly ask/expect anything more? Coach Bowden - thank you!
