Z.I.P.
A victory in Cookeville, Tennessee may not elicit more than a nod from even most real fans of Akron's women's basketball, but the opponent, Tennessee Tech is actually one of the traditional powers of mid-major women's hoops. I'll bet they've been to the NCAA tournament more times than any MAC or just about any mid-major conference school -- and they've sprung many upsets over ranked teams over the years. For Akron to gain the first series win on the road says a lot about this year's version of the team. The squad has a LOT of weapons. I'm looking for a post-season experience for Akron Women's Hoops in 2013.

Bill Morgan
Tuesday night's win was a key early season victory for the Zips....... this team has the potential to be not only Coach Kest's best team, but - arguably - the best in UA history. With Rachel Tecca returning healthy from last season's knee injury, the team is poised to make a run at the MAC East title and at 20 wins - which would be a school record. While Rachel, deservedly so, gets a lot of press....... the team also features Taylor Ruper, the leading 3 pt. shooter in school history and Kacie Cassell, who is emerging as a solid MAC point guard. And forward Sina King....... all she did was win MAC 2nd team honors last season The key for this team is developing depth beyond the top 6 players....... Coach Kest and company are working on that as you read this.

zippyman23
take it from Tech alum Andy Landers, longtime Georgia Bulldogs' mentor. Nope. Not sure what that article has to do with anything, but Tennessee Tech would not be considered a traditional power in women's basketball. Two NCAA appearances in the past 20 years, with the latest in 2000. Their not exactly the program you were describing.
ZachTheZip
Having finally seen them in person, they look pretty good. They could stand to develop some depth, though. They're a whole other team when Tecca is in the game. She's unreal.
akzipper
Lady Zips are now 5-1 with a 103-57 win last night. One of those wins coming against a Big East team. Good to see an Akron team that understands the importance of starting off the season strong!
GP1
Some will say they are winning a lot against bad teams. Fair enough. I would say that before Kest, they would have started this season out at 1-5. Anyone who thinks the football team can never be at least average-good needs to look no further than the WBB program. They were absolutely horrible before Kest got there. I would go as far as to say they were DIII in nature before Kest. The WBB program pre-Kest was far worse than the program TB took over. Kest isn't a world beater as a coach, but she runs her program as a DI program should be run and she is finding some success. There is nothing wrong with demanding a high level of performance out of a group of young women.

They are now 7-1!!! This team is the real deal. I actually went to the game tonight to check them out since they were in my neck of the woods and I was impressed with what I saw. They do a lot of things fundamentally soundly like boxing out and playing defense with their hands up to force turnovers. One concern might be depth as the 5 starters probably got 80% or more of the available minutes. The Patriot Center would be an excellent facility if we could move it about 400 miles North and change the color scheme.

Zips women's basketball @ 7-1, and K.e.n.t. football @ 11-2. The Mayans were right.

LZIp
Its sad that there is better audio for WBB than MBB. Seems they did something right though...syncing 1350 with the video.

akzipper
So...not even 10 games into the season and the Lady Zips have more wins that our football team has had in the past 4 years! We are awesome...
Zipmeister
Didn't look very good today. A tough loss. Now there's an understatement. Newscollector managed to put a much more positive spin on the game..... The Zips limited themselves to just six turnovers in the game and out-scored the Raiders 40-33 in the second half. View the full article at www.GoZips.com Of course Newscollector introduced an article describing the sinking of the Titanic with... Ship made excellent time during first four days of voyage and the food was reported as tasty. This was not a tough loss, this was a bad loss.
