I hate that the Zips open with the Falcons as I believe they will win the MAC East East this year (I also hate that OU gets a week off before we get them next week but that's a topic for next week). I think the Falcons win this one handily 35 - 17. So ZN.O what say you for this week?

BG is first in the mac in team defense, if we come out and try to run the ball, we will fall behind early AGAIN. Coach has talked about getting a fast start this week. Our offensive game plan will decide this one. If we win, it will be 38-35, and we need the ball last.

Balls to the wall AJ! :gun: :gun: :gun:

PS If anyone is a Tool fan and digs this song, Maynard

on his last side project CD.

Our first chance to measure ourselves against a good MAC team. And I remain completely baffled in terms of what to expect after the ups and downs of the first 4 games.

Only because it's a road game do I feel that we could lose by a wide margin this week. And the way BG dominated us in the 2nd half of last year's game (including shutting us out) is still too vivid of a memory.

NH15 is listed as questionable this week, with Sconiers the only other Zip showing up on the report . So I’m encouraged that we seem to be pretty healthy heading into BG. The big caveat is how much or how little KP16’s ankle was bothered versus Louisiana.

I’m definitely concerned about Johnson, as he seems to be the missing link for the BG offense. Based on his stats, it looks like he can pull it down well enough to keep defenses honest also. Joplin is the type of big WR that can cause a lot of problems for us. The only way I envision UA keeping BG from scoring their fair share (they average in the low 30s) is to create turnover opportunities AND take advantage of them. The Zips defense has shown a good ability to force fumbles, but they need to recover more of them starting with this Saturday.

Indiana piled up over 600 yards against these guys, so the Zips should be able to move the ball with some consistency. If TB goes ahead with what sounds like a more aggressive offensive game plan, the 1st few drives will be telltale. If the Zips can open the scoring, something they have failed to do all season this far, the chances for an upset increase considerably.

If BG hadn’t played so well at home this so far year, I’d be more inclined to pick an upset. But I going to use my head to predict this week:

Falcons 38

Zips 31

I hope Jeff Bowden is concerned about his punt team after watching the Indiana/BG game. We keep getting beat on special teams and It's time that changes.

I hope that he has at least communicated to the guys up front on kickoffs to beware of the kicker dribbling the ball 10 yards and covering it himself.

I hope I NEVER see that again. That was a game changer, and it should never happen.

Since I made my prediction, one thought has been gnawing on me. I’m selling these guys a little short picking them to lose, no matter the margin. The 2013 football Zips are clearly relying on many new, yet experienced faces, so it shouldn’t be surprising that it’s taken a little while for this team to gel. Four games are under their belt, and now I think they just might be ready to play a complete game. In a stunning move, flying in the face of message board etiquette and the Vegas odds, I hereby revise my prediction as follows:

Zips 38

Falcons 31

Take that Hustle Belt, Bleacher Report, and Ziggy Zombie Poombah!!

I was feel a little down this week after a tough loss last week in a game the Zips program really needed to win.

Working out of home today and wearing my Akron Alumni t-shirt. Went to lunch and ran into a stranger with a Zips polo shirt on and he came over to say hi when he saw me. Put me in a better mood about the Zips and I'm back to my old self so I picked the Zips by more than a touchdown....

BG did not score an offensive TD against Indiana. The same Indiana who has surrendered 35, 35 and 28 points in their other 3 contests. Indiana rolled up over 600 offensive yards against BG.

That tells me BG's offense is weak, and their defense is overrated.

A healthy Zips team rolls in relatively easy fashion, ending both their epic MAC, and overall road losing streaks in one fell swoop.

Zips 38
