Dr Z Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 Support for coach Peters Tonight The first 3,000 fans will get a purple T-shirt with '4 Pete's Sake' on it in support of coach Dan Peters. Zips are a 14 point favorite. EA of the PD writes about UA Coach Keith Dambrot's Zips are already playing at a relatively high level, every night, and like Can't State have made some lineup changes with Carmelo Betancourt at point guard, Jake Kretzer at forward, Quincy Diggs now starting at guard, Nick Harney at forward and Demetrius Treadwell at center. This lineup has produced two straight road wins. Overall, while Toledo gets the MAC spotlight courtesy of its victory at Akron, the Zips are in better shape to win or share a third MAC title. Akron already has four MAC road wins, including at Ohio University and at Eastern Michigan. UT has only played two MAC road games to date, and split those. After the Zips play at Can't State, 6 p.m. Saturday, they will only have four MAC road games remaining with a Feb. 19 game at Buffalo being the most daunting. UT still has seven MAC road games, including at OU, at Eastern and at rival Bowling Green. As Treadwell said after a Tuesday practice, "I like where we are right now, and where we'll be by the end of the season." Quote

GoZips Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 The "4 Pete's Sake" program was mentioned on national telecasts last weekend (Arizona and West Virginia games). Get to the JAR early. These tee shirts are among the best "freebies" ever offered at Akron. A few have been showing up all day on campus. At least three different styles will be employed. First is the standard "tee" shirt. Then there is the long sleeve version known as a "warm up" shirt. The team will have their own warm up version for pre-game. See you there. Quote

The Hip Zip Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Damn, nobody here for the game?? You Go Kwan !! Quote
zippy5 Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 We actually played pretty sloppy for kicking the crap out of them so far. Harney is very good inside, stay down low sir. Quote
Balsy Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 As casual of fan of basketball...I was really impress with Kwan this evening. If I ignore the future PG stability...Kwan makes me really hopeful about our future! Quote

If I ignore the future PG stability...Kwan makes me really hopeful about our future! He's not "there" quite yet. But, I have talked since the beginning of the season that I think he can be really valuable to us because of his size, and his ability to hit the long jumper. I'll definitely be continuing to watch him. Quote
skip-zip Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 They're giving out three different kinds or there are three different kinds for different people? No. They only gave out the standard tees with one color print. And there were plenty of extras if you wanted them, with the weather dampening attendance. I wonder if this could have been a more appropriate event if they had chosen to do this while Dan was still able to attend, before he went in for treatment? He surely would have been touched, and the crowd could have cheered him on. I bet it would have been an emotional night. Quote
akzipper Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 It was great to see Kwan put up solid numbers tonight. The problem though is we see it very often a guy goes for 15, 20, 30 pts and think he's had a "break out" game. Then next outing scores nothing. It's a product of a balanced offense, but we need to see some consistency. Quote

Or, just the fact that we don't presently have a scorer who can put up 15-20 a night on any regular basis? Quote
Captain Kangaroo Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Dambrot goes nuts tonight??!! Starting line up is the best five...after the 5-minute media time out...HE KEEPS THE SAME 5 ON THE COURT??!! The first sub off the bench is KWAN CHEATUM??!! And he rides his hot hand for essentially the entire game??!! And who was this AK-Rowdie they pulled out of the stands to hit a 3-pointer at the end of the game??!! "Jonas Stalyga Who?, I say!" "Noble is a Gas" will be my sign next week! Kretzer and Diggs combine for 3-17 from the floor, and we still win by 27??!! Great D by the Zips tonight. Fun one to watch. Hope Coach Peters was able to enjoy some of the video feed. The kids did him proud. Quote
Hilltopper Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Mark Noble is a great kid from a great family. His parents Kevin and Kathy run Perfect Balance Athletics, a Christian based gym in Green. My daughter cheered on the award winning Blue Storm competition cheer team for 7 years. After the game KD said Mark was the hardest working walk-on in the history of the program. The place went nuts when he hit that three. Well deserved for Mark. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=587714704640015 Quote

CK, I know you speak for many on this board and I'm trying to stay humble about this. All I can say is....you're welcome. Enjoy the run up to another MAC Championship. I love a good butt kicking and Akron dished one out last night. Great job guys! Quote

GP1 Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 I have a bias towards liking true centers in games. For a long time, I thought Pat should start and play a lot. He is a productive guy and was last night, but not what the Zips need in the starting line-up. Quote
zippy5 Posted January 30, 2014 Report Posted January 30, 2014 Pat has good low-post moves. If he works on his positioning and hands, he'll be a load in the MAC by his senior year. Not quite there yet. Quote

Not quite there yet. I agree, he does have some good moves.. He needs to fight the temptation to slide the trailing foot to avoid walking calls but all in all he's pretty solid when he gets it on the block Quote

Well deserved for Mark. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=587714704640015 I'm not surprised in the least about KD's comment on Mark's work ethic. How many athletes play soccer, football, basketball and track at the varsity level like Mark did at Manchester. The soccer and football combination is especially difficult (not quite so for soccer players who serve as the football PK - not the case with Mark) since the seasons coincide. He comes by it honestly, too. His dad can run marathons in his sleep. This was a surreal (and fantastic) moment for me, because I saw Mark play at a very young age when I was coaching my son at the time. I don't recall him being on the bench this year, but perhaps I wasn't paying close enough attention. I had the same reaction as CK after the game. Jonas who? Now instead of a Lithuanian flag, maybe the Rowdies need to get a blown up picture of Jim France to summon a court appearance from Mark! Quote
