Anyone at UA who officially knows what happened with Nick wouldn't be allowed to say anything due to student privacy laws, and I've yet to see anything unofficial reported. But if something unofficial does pop up we'd have no way of knowing for sure if it was factual or unsubstantiated rumor. I suspect that reporters have already checked police and court records and would have reported if they'd found anything there. Assuming he sits out a game or two, then whatever he did was probably no more serious than what many of us did at his age, whether we got caught or not. I'm OK with not having an all-choir-boy basketball team because I was no choir boy at that stage of my life. If I thought there was a serious serial problem with many Zips players, I'd be concerned.

Damn @SportsJunkie330, a little over the top don't you think? --- Every university, every sports team, even every company takes a chance on the people they choose to allow on campus, on a team or who they hire. Background checks are done at all levels. For universities, they look at grades, extracurriculars, etc... For sports teams, people talk to former coaches, family members, administrators, etc... and for employment, previous employers, references, etc... Sometimes it goes perfectly, sometimes there's bumps and other times it's a mistake. This is a bump, nothing more until more is realeased.

First of all, I have no idea how serious this is, but I always get a kick out of fan reaction to players getting suspended. It's always so over the top. 25 years ago, a guy had to do something pretty serious to get suspended. 25 years and 3,000 NCAA rules later, it could be something really serious, or something really silly. Normally, the less serious it is, the more people keep their mouths shut about what happened.

At least we got the term "five pound Friday" out of this discussion

The people I know at Akron have always done a good job of keeping their mouths shut about these kinds of things. People talk about some things, but not this. And that's probably for the best, even though I am very curious.

There is always cause for concern for me whenever something like this happen. First of all, it will likely affect the team's performance. Secondly, it can always be an indication that it's part of a bigger problem. We'll see what develops.

Read this is the 3rd time Harney has been suspended during his career here. Now that I think of it, every season since my first year at Akron there has been some distraction with a player that has affected the team negatively. I'm seeing a pattern here folks. Take your blue and gold glasses off and stop being an apologist. We love to talk smack about the reputation of that program a few miles east of us, well I say we are no better.

One of Nick's 3 suspensions was the dreaded NCAA paperwork suspension that also took Tree out for the first 2 games last season. I wouldn't count this the same as the others. But anyone who can't stomach any suspensions for any reason probably shouldn't be following college sports. I understand that college chess teams have almost no team suspensions, so that might be better to follow for those with zero tolerance.

You, nor I, know the reason Harney was suspended INDEFINITELY (key word here). Lets not try to group an indefinite suspension as "any and all suspensions". Really a reach. I highly doubt this came from him skipping a class. I follow plenty of college sports. Of the teams I follow, Zips men's basketball is near the top in terms distractions, and it certainly affects the team.

Now I'm prepared for you to bring your "when I was a kid I certainly was no saint" defense. Harney has been in college for 4 years now and has had the opportunity to go to school for free and has the opportunity to play professional ball somewhere. Hardly the same circumstances you were in when you were in college I reckon. He should get his act together before he throws the opportunity away.

Not over the top at all. Some of the players on this team have been given chance after chance and continue to get themselves in trouble. I agree with what you are saying, but I am talking about the Akron Zips basketball program. There is more than one player on this team that continues to get chances. How many times is too much? It should never get to 3 dirty tests. The average player would've been kicked off the team with no questions asked after the first.
