skip-zip
Students count as "Paid" attendance, either way. Whether their cost is covered by student fees, or they have to buy tickets. But if you are anywhere remotely close to getting those numbers "in the seats", I think that's very impressive for a Sun Belt school that's right in the shadows of Baton Rouge. It's tough up here. We have 8 D-1A schools in this state, and several more just outside of Ohio.
a-zip
Hell maybe UA should consider going to the corners at Buchtel, Spicer ETC, and grab those homeless folks, buy em a beer and a hot dog and let them watch the game LOL . Doesn't add to the sales numbers, but at least the butts would be in the seats and it would look like more attendance............... Just sayinAny programs with the local schools, churches, ETC ? Don't attack me, just curious LOL Jrship - your question is kinda why I asked. Seriously, paid attendance is kinda BS right now because we all know schools can get around it by paying for tickets and either offering to alumni or just eating them.My question had more to do with gauging the interest in the fan base. I'm telling you folks.......recruits don't give a s*%t about paid attendance......they care about if there is going to be a full (or half filled) stadium to see them play. If TB is going to get the recruits we need, he needs "butts in seats". At this point, if they are homeless....so be it.....give them something to look forward to ;-)Oh BTW Skip - what is your point in attacking/questioning Louisiana Saint about their attendance? No one knows better than the players how important fan support is to their performance.
Captain Kangaroo
Zips fans care about attendance 10X more than they do their team's performance.I can't imagine the time spent trying to dissect the Zips actual attendance vs. butts-in-seats, or trying to disclose the alleged cover up of unsold tickets by their own University's employees is remotely approached by any other fan base, at ANY division of collegiate football. Now, the butt fetish has extended to dissecting opponent's attendance?F*ck attendance. Go Tommy Woodson! Beat Louisiana!

Jrship35
Zips fans care about attendance 10X more than they do their team's performance.Attendance is a driver of performance (players) just as performance is a driver of attendance (fans).... All depending on who's eye's are viewing it Football is mental game as well. Don't underestimate the attendance factor in performance, recruiting, team moral etc. That dude on the mic chanting "Let's go Zips" is not getting it done for the team (not his fault at all). It was way embarrassing in the Pitt game when he started that and the overwhelming sound of "Let's go Pitt" drowned out any chants for the home team ...... only my shallow opinion
Dr Z
overwhelming sound of "Let's go Pitt" drowned out any chants for the home team ...... Aaron
A better question might be - if high school football games draw really well at Infocision, is there a marketing opportunity in the future to get a double-header with a Zips game and a HS football game? If a big HS game was played at 1, and the same ticket got you into the Zips game that starts at 3:30 (or so) could that improve our attendance?I'm not sure if this would send the wrong message about Zips football, or if it would be a nice way to get the local community interested? You can even have Zips halftime giveaways where you sell raffle tickets during the HS game and announce winners during the Zips game?
Captain Kangaroo
Zips fans care about making excuses for Bowden 10X more than they care about attendance. What was there not to like about last week? Taking into account we played a moribund 1-AA program, a 52-9 beating isn't all that impressive. But Woodson looked so much better than last season. Thinner. Bouncing back after his terrible INT, he kept his composure under pressure. He showed maturity, composure and resilience. He looked like everything Chapman was supposed to be. Jerome Lane looked deadly in the open field. Young looked great too, and there MAY finally be a QB to get a good WR the ball. These WR's are only going to get better. If the OL can protect Tommy, they'll rack up some big plays Saturday.Hundley ran hard and strong. The D only surrendered 3 points. There are some really positive signs materializing, if you are objective and open-minded.Beating a team that's won 9+ games for 5 or so consecutive seasons, on the road, is a tall order. But if Woodson has truly turned the corner, it's possible. Pitt played well against Iowa, and should have beaten them. Losses to Oklahoma and Pitt aren't cause to fire anyone at UA.I hate to ruin a great attendance thread with football talk, but sometimes it has to be done.If the mods want to move or delete my posts, go ahead. They're dicks anyhow. F 'em.

But there's no danger of that happening because this advice has often been selectively given by some who have no problem rambling on about their pet topics. Captain Kangaroo
If this advice were followed by all forum members on all topics, the volume of traffic on ZipsNation would fall pretty dramatically. As evidence by the volume of your posting, you somehow feel that volume is the leading metric to determine the quality of this site.Volume is worthless. Any lonely retiree can post 5...10...15 times per day on this site and create volume. That volume of relentless, opinionless noise drives the creative and the insightful away. That loss of quality content is an increasing concern.ZipsNation doesn't care about "hits," "traffic,"...none of that has ever meant anything. I've spent over $1,000 out of my own pocket to keep this site up-and-running over the past decade +. I keep this site running because I care about Zips athletics, and in lieu of any radio, TV, and for the most part newspaper coverage of the Program, I feel it is important that like-minded people have a place to learn about the Programs, and share their opinions. But the doors here are open to the people with endless spare time, no opinions, and all day to type. I've probably deleted 2...maybe 3 posts in the past year. For whatever stupid reason, I let everyone have their say and edit nothing. The vast majority appreciate the forum. Yet a few act like they are persecuted. Thanks to Dr. Z for providing the awesome game day photos. He's sacrificing sitting in the stands with his buds on Saturdays to enhance the content of this site, and raise its quality. That is dedication, and is really appreciated. And thanks to the others who share their out-of-town news links, insights, humor, creativity and/or passion to make this sight and interesting read. That's the backbone of ZipsNation. Not "volume."

skip-zip
I think most of us have a great appreciation for those who have done so much to keep this going, and for those who take so much of their own time to gather and share information. If it's not said often enough, then I'll add another THANK YOU. But, I also think that this can be a tremendous resource for those on the outside, such as the casual, new, and non-fans who might be looking for an outlet to get more informed, involved and engaged. So, I think we'd be remiss if we didn't view an increase in traffic as a sign that this resource is contributing to an increase in fan support, which is certainly something that we all yearn for. LZIp
Prefer not to bump this discussion, but I think it's worth mentioning. In both of the home game I've attended this year, I've noticed a pathetic excuse of student section even for Akron's standards.Chants? No. I follow the AK Rowdies on twitter and something has caught my eye the past few days. A ton of promoting for the soccer team (not that there is anything wrong with that) and even a solid amount for the basketball team for as early in the season as it is. However on the other hand, there is hardly anything at all for the Football team. Absolutely no promoting to try and get Rowdies to the games. No soccer ticket giveouts for showing up(like they did for student who came to the Hiram game), no free pizza, no free hot chocolate/donuts, no free shirts, nothing. I will give them credit for having their tailgate, but it doesn't really promote getting students to the game.Students have a lack of interest in the football program, and unfortunately part of the problem is a lack of interest from student leadership. The Zips are playing their biggest game in quite some time and support will be pathetic im sure come Saturday.https://twitter.com/TheAKROWDIES
