Balsy
TeamRankings.com doesn't have much confidence in the Akron Zips in this game.
LZIp
Opportunity knocking for probably our best win all season, can the inexperienced, yet talented Zips answer?
zippy_ua_00
Yeah I cant find a point spread. Im thinking zips +8.5 Would be a big win. Miami already beat florida this year
LZIp
Reading some, it seems Miami fans are thinking a lot like I do of Akron. A young team, but talented team, where you should expect some ups and downs.

Valpo Zip
Our teams usually have a single "feel good", out of conference, win per season:2011: Mississippi State2012: Penn State2013: was it Oregon or Oregon State?I am afraid that USC was it this year and tomorrow we will go back to face the harsh reality. If the zips want to surprise me tomorrow and show me that I am nothing but a clueless fan who has no idea what he's talking about, i'll be happy to take it. akronzips71
I am feeling pretty good about it. We filled the biggest hole we had, which was at PG.Kwan did one heck of a job today being Tree.We have more speed and athleticism on the floor than we have had for a while.IF the guys can shoot, we should have a very good chance. Relative stats between the two teams are very close.
zippy_ua_00
I dont necessarily think losing tree was a bad thing. We now have to play more as a team where as before we had a star and one of the best in the MAC, and we expected to toss it down low and let him make something happen. Now we can run our offense and not expect one player to bring us back or make all the plays. We can play more team ball. Also the addition of some good PG play will help dramatically. Hopefully kwan continues to play as he did vs the condoms and pat keeps up the type of play he had today as well
skip-zip
I'll take anything that's an improvement over the way we played in the 2nd round in Hawaii last year. Getting spanked badly by Iowa State the day after playing a solid gem against OSU.
Dave in Green
Miami earned its creds by breaking #7 Florida's 33-game home winning streak. I suspect that Big Dog will play more than 10 minutes, as the Zips will need all the minutes they can get out of him and Pat to try to counter Miami's 7-foot center, Tonye Jekiri. Miami's high-scoring guard, 5-11 Angel Rodriguez, will be a tough test for Noah/Antino/Nyles. Maybe Deji gets some minutes guarding Rodriguez. The Zips match up pretty well in size against the Canes but will have to play aggressively without fouling. There's some real potential in this Zips team. But they will have some down games throughout the season just like every other team, and they can't afford that against Miami.
Dr Z
I don't see a line yet. I would expect it to be more than 7. In KD's history at Akron, he has never defeated a team when more than a 7 point underdog. Opportunity knocks.
roopride
Game time is 2:30 right? Anybody have any game stats? Robo, Kwan, Pat carried us yesterday. A fluke?
skip-zip
In KD's history at Akron, he has never defeated a team when more than a 7 point underdog. This surprises me. Of course, the die hard fans are all aware that we've never scored a "major" upset, but I don't think that too many people would consider 7 point spreads to be "major" upsets. It will take everything we have for it to happen today. I wonder how many times he has had the chance to beat a team as a 7 point or greater underdog? My bet would be very few in the 5 years I've been following given our conference and typical OOC schedule.Hope everyone who made the trip is enjoying themselves
Dr Z
Game time is 2:30 right? Anybody have any game stats? Yes, game is at 2:30 pm. I'm not sure what stats you want but here are some.In 2010 the Zips played Miami who was favored by six and a half, Miami won by eight. akronzips71
our RPI is currently 179, which is the worst I can ever recall. But our SOS is 249, which of course is why we are ranked so badly at 2-0Anyone know if that is based on the SOS year to date, or for the entire year? Because our schedule just got harder by winning last night.
LZIp
I think you may have just set a new record for bringing up RPI and SOS two games into the season.Per Dr. Z's link. The spread seems to be between 8.5-9.

Dr Z
Miami favored by nine and a half.Per ESPN recap:"We know as a squad we can compete with a high major," said Cheatham, who added seven rebounds and two assists. "We always come in like, `This is the game we've got to get." The Zips may have some more opportunities given the Charleston Classic field, which includes Miami of the Atlantic Coast Conference, Penn State of the Big Ten Conference and South Carolina of the Southeastern Conference. "We'll be ready," Cheatham said.
GP1
USC was woefully coached and organized yesterday, but they had some good young talent. Truly one of the worst team I have ever seen at the mid major or major level. Regardless, the Zips performed well. I see them coming out today and playing as well as they did yesterday, which is pretty good. What I don't know is the talent level of The U or how well their coach is able to deploy the talent. If they are better organized than USC was yesterday and have better talent, the Zips can still win. Or, if they are better organized than USC and the Zips struggle, it could be a long day.I only see two results and I think each are equally as likely to happen. Either the Zips win or Miami covers. Not sure Miami wins a close one because that will mean Akron is clicking on all cylinders and they had to eek one out. If the Zips can keep it close, they can win if they are as well organized as yesterday and lay off of some of the nutty 3-point shots they take. No way do they win making 8 of 27 three pointers. Make 8 of 20 three point shots and turn those other seven into high percentage two pointers, keep the game close and like all average teams wait for Miami to poop their pants.Play hard. Play smart. mes102
Myron Medcalf believes the Zips will pull it off:http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/100864/weekend-predictions-uconn-could-lose?ex_cid=espnapi_publicAkron vs. Miami (Charleston Classic), 2:30 p.m. ET, Friday, ESPNU: Demetrius Treadwell Jr. has been suspended indefinitely by the university, but Akron should still be a contender for the MAC crown. Pat Forsythe and Kwan Cheatham Jr. gave the Zips 15 points apiece in a 20-point win over USC earlier this week. They're confident, but they're also facing a Miami team coming off a come-from-behind win over Florida. Angel Rodriguez, however, can't carry that load every night. Prediction: Akron 67, Miami 66 Popcorn Level: 6 Bags EDIT: USC comes back and beats Drexel, 72-70.
